  2. Never fished big water like Erie must of been a blast! Thanks for the comment was a great week! Thanks buddy boat worked great! Worked out the kinks 2 or 3 little things i wanna play around with! Thanks sure was! Thumb's are raw haha! Thanks for the comment!
  3. Nice job guys weather looked great! Always fun to get them on the surface baits.
  4. Hello everybody once again! Just arrived home late today from a fantastic camping and fishing trip with my dad and uncle. The bass were somewhat challenging at times early in the trip however although numbers were not the case early on I was finding decent fish and as the week progressed I found more fish exploring new water. Punching matted cover was the key this trip most of the time. Using a bully grass devil a black and blue punch skirt and a 1oz weight i just picked apart thicker matts under the hot sunny conditions. In the mornings we used a topwater walk the dog style bait and managed to catch smallies daily even creating a flurry one morning putting 4 in the livewell in 10 minutes. Enjoy the pictures my dad managed to get his first smallie this trip of a decent size so that was exciting for him. As well my uncle caught his first nice largemouth on a flipping jig and bait caster. Day 1 was a grind boat traffic was wild to say the least for north eastern ontario, regardless I caught little fish all morning and then once the sun got high I got this nice largemouth from under a matt. Later in the evening found another bigger bass under the cover. Love the fight and patience you need to pick apart the cover. Following morning I picked up a nice smallmouth after some smaller ones. My uncle with his first of the trip froggin the early morning heavy cover. Later I was looking for smallmouth off the rock walls and points and picked up this beauty largemouth. Finding lot's of these in the open shallows great fights on the swim jig/swinging hammer combo. Some chunky ones punching in those hot afternoons. Lot's of fun! And another little bigger No stoping them always on the initial drop through the cover Good fish on a swim jig Re rigging baits for the next day. Fat little chunky bass feeding up after the spawn Checking some hard bottom areas off shore. Got this one off a 19' hump while we were in 30 casting up onto it. Got a few smaller ones and this nice largemouth Swim jig time once again. I cut the swinging hammer a inch back to shorten it up but that wide swing just drives them nuts year round always a good search bait. Nice largemouth in the pads he had to have that flipping jig. Didn't get many fish on jig's this trip First big largie of the trip half pound shy of 5lbs. Went for my pitch bait the 3.5" Texas-Rig Jig. Back to the heavy cover for me after pulling that big bucket off wood laydowns and shade cover nice fish to kick off another day. Frog was slow this week lot's of 1lbr's hitting them but once I slowed down it seemed to put fish in the boat. Temps were 71degrees to 80 degrees this week fish were finicky early and late but mid day seemed to be very active. My uncle with his first jig fish was happy for him! Dad with his first decent largemouth of the trip he got on a roll that afternoon. No giants but solid fish to fill the day he finally let me get catch up a little with a couple of these took a picture of this one most were just shy of 2lbs but all part of exploring new water My turn Another for him Next day was one to remember not so much the size of the fish but how it happened. Getting on the lake a lake early as always I went to a spot and found a little school of fish. Made a cast put 1 in the livewell. Dad made his cast out with the popper i would use the walking bait and wham fish number 2 in the box. Cast 3 was another catch and same as cast 4. The action then died off but I got a nice picture with my dad all solid fish and what a blast it was! Number 1 was a little over 2lbs followed by these chunky 3's And number 4. They loved that bait and the 15lb mono i was using was perfect for hiding the line and keeping the flurry going Better 2 of the bunch Dad and I he was a great net man. Wish they would of gave the popper a go but liked my dog x speed slide more. Later on my second last day I was working the same bait out deep over a a weedline edge. About 20fow and as i saw it come up i did everything i could to keep it moving super slow. Flat calm super hot out was wild but it happened. She went 5lbs 0oz on the nose. Couldn't be happier what a beauty. Side shot of the fish. Perfect close to a awesome trip Dad caught his first smallie of a decent size. Working the swimjig on heavy braid his largemouth setup. Apparently she didn't care was happy for him the fight was wild! Next morning I caught only 3 or 4 this was my biggest close to 4 not quite but a fun fish on the surface bait. And to close out the trip I seemed to catch pike all afternoon. Dad got the last bass for this round. August is coming up and round 2 will begin. Enjoying my boat the 3 of us built this spring. Can't wait to take a day trip or two through July! Thanks for reading everybody, time to read up and see some reports and stories! Tightline's everybody, MTBF
  5. 1/4-3/8oz Jig's Colour doesn't matter much, bring a assortment of grubs in the 3-4" size. Early season opening 2-3 weeks smaller seems to work better the larger grubs in June/July. White Grub on a Chartreuse head was my favourite but every guide has there special. For Pike White and Black buzz baits seem to work well, we would put a grub on those too to give them some lift to keep them on the surface, a small swimbait would do also rigged on a large hook with little to no weight. Johnson Silver minnow in the 1/2-1oz size works well for Pike and you will catch walleye on those also. We would use single or twin tail grub's as a trailer on those spoons. Remember single barbless so spinnerbaits, buzz baits, wire leaders and braided line are just a few of the things you will need. You will catch fish and lot's hope this helps!
  6. Where does one get this Gluvit product? Sounds interesting I'm re building a boat now and was going to go the Line-X route over the marine plywood floors, deck, bow box etc.
  7. Need the 7 or 9 to appreciate the SI/DI. The smaller screens make it very tough to see the structure. I picked up the Helix 7 SI GPS this year. Can't wait to use it, haven't had problems visually fishing and targeting structure but the deep stuff I want to learn, bottom hardness finding those points and curves in deep weedlines etc. Go for the 7, price is right and gives the the bigger screen to see the details! Don't listen to the guys saying it doesn't work right and it's not worth it. A basic fish finder isn't worth the $$ in my opinion. If you want depth and temp go basic but once you dial in the SI settings your golden. Here are some links to get you started learning. I'm in "learning mode" too but once you play with the settings your golden. MTBF
  8. Wow man nice job down there followed the entire event. Must of been a blast, I guess so many emotions going through the mind sometimes but when you let it all go and fish is when the magic happens. It's on my bucket list to get down to Okeechobee for a week vacation. Bring some flipping stick's, frog rods and some rods for swim jigs and chatter baits. Suits my style, learning the new vegetation and water colour would be the tough part at first I would think. I would love to just flip reeds and cover all day looking for those same 2 bites you got in your picture haha! Please keep posting as you fish new events! Good luck this year MTBF
  9. Hard to find good ice not hard to find the idiots...ATV's already common guys be careful.
  10. Christmas Eve and Christmas we had off work. Back at it in the morning. 2 days off not bad I guess
  11. Looks awesome out there and the Verado sure is a quiet beast.
  12. Not good!!! That sucks, always worry about getting hurt and not being able to fish. Get better Ron Ice Fishing will be here soon drop by the store sometime! I have my times, some days are great others are better! Thank you man! I have fished with a couple guys on here hard to find the time with the "family style" trips I take each summer. Thanks for the reply! I've been there slow computer sucks sometimes. Steelhead are a blast I love the fight reminds me of finessing smallies so always a good practice for bass season. lol thanks man! Want to explore deeper water largemouth some more. The deep weediness caught my eye this year. Liking the fact that I'm learning to be very versatile with the techniques. Fishing is my passion that's for sure. No other hobby's or things that take up my time. When my time is done at the shop i'll quite often turn on WFN or do some reading to learn more for the next season...the fishing train of thought never shuts off. I said 6 years ago I should learn a new technique every year and I have. It's amazing how many techniques I feel fully confident with now, continuing to learn and expand on what you know is why I love fishing. 5 years ago all I did was throw a frog, I caught fish but many hours went by some days with no bites...so then I learned to flip, throw a swim jig to cover vast areas of sparse weed...deep cranking, smallies on a jerk bait it never stops...I think that is a important part of fishing, the endless ways to find and catch the darn things. Long story short thanks for the reply haha! More smiles for 2016 wait until we break 7lbs...the look on my face will be priceless Thanks for the comments guys! Always nice to read what some people think of the pictures and write up. MTBF
  13. Great clip, perfect morning eh was casting a spinnerbait all morning catching one every 15 minutes or so was slow and steady won't forget that September warm beautiful conditions. I fear for me heart when that moment happens. I'll be in disbelief and it will be when I least expect it...probably on a frog boat side or maybe on a popper at 5am like the current PB. You never know that's what I love the hunt and anticipation. Was a fun year!
  14. Well here we go, for me the season of 2015 is done. 2015 Was a fun year for me covering a little bit of everything. Ice fishing late January and Feburary, great success on the creek this spring with the Rainbow’s. Walleye wasn’t amazing but the two times I got invited out by my friend Glenn we caught some fish and had awesome weather to do it in. Bass opener soon followed then one two week camping trip and a 6 night trip in September. All in all I can’t complain too much I got to fish lot’s and enjoy my summer. Didn’t break any PB’s this year except a big trout but aside from that I sucked. Didn’t catch any 5lb+ smallies on the inland lakes I stay at. Largemouth this year were bigger on average but no giant’s, some nice low to high 4lbr’s breaking 5lbs once. Maybe next year well break the PB Largemouth and find that 7lb’r I’ve been searching for. With my last trip out back in September fall has been slow just working and picking up things for the boat project next spring. We finally got away from the rental so should be able to fish a extra week or two next summer. Rental’s are expensive so the 14’ deep and wide open floor style boat I picked up will be perfect for the smaller lakes. On with some pictures now! First trip out for 2015 was Rice Lake Ice Fishing. We mainly were after a few cold beers and some good food from Rhino’s but got out on the ice for a few hours managed to catch a little over a dozen Perch and Sunfish. Was a good “ice breaker” after many weeks of cold and snow. Back to basics, no wind so had all I needed lol. Decent Perch Got out on Lake Simcoe for 2 trips out with a hut rental operator. Caught lot’s and had to bring lunch and tackle was awesome! Clean fish always a nice treat Trout opener soon followed. I was surprised this year how busy the creek was, decided to wait until the first weeks in May, less fish but no crowd and could actually enjoy a hour or 2 down there tossing small spinners and crankbaits into the pool’s. Here are a few pictures from my trips out. Dozen’s of these guys, fun fish New PB, no scale or tape I would guess 7-8lbs the fight was intense on the 6’6 Light Fast Spinning Rod. I did good work keeping the fish on deffinately test’s the “light” equiptment. And another Beauty little trout love this shot Walleye then opened up next. My first of the year haha dink from Rice Lake always happy to catch a couple there. Another day another pair to take home 2015 Lineup ready for war with bass season around the corner, lineup always changes have added another rod and reel I think since then Bass opener wasn’t great. I got out with another friend of mine on Clear Lake for the day. We caught dozen’s of bass many small smallmouth and a few walleye also that day. I hooked up with the 2 only decent bass that day. After so much open water and rock I convinced my friend to steer the boat into a backbay that was shallow. Not a 10 minutes in I hooked up with a nice chunky largemouth. Made my day had me wanting to be on my home waters in Eastern Ontario right at that moment love slop and heavy cover. Next trip was first 2 weeks of August. Lot’s of pictures I choose some of the better pics. First of the trip, morning fish on the jerkbait out deep Not many frog fish this year but here was a pair My papa came with us on this trip. This was his first bass and ended up being the biggest of the trip. Went 5lbs 9oz and is his new PB. Life took us apart for 6 or 7 years so now that things are good again I expect to take more trips with my Papa, Dad and Uncle in the future. Still mad he beat me haha not next year! Very thankful he brought me into fishing when I was very young. Every morning I love throwing the popper around. Didn’t produce any size this year. Caught lot’s of nice bass like this one but no piggy’s this year. Lot’s of these 2-3lb class fish on the plastics and jigs. They sure do love that 3.5” TRJ Big fish from pads close to deep water. Love that new Aldebaran 50HG incredable reel very strong. Every summer I tangle with a few of these here was the biggest of the trip Swim Jig’s were a important addition to my techniques this year caught big fish and lot’s of them. Good for covering vast weedy areas, I used this on outside edges and when going from slop bed to slop bed anywhere I could, even sinking it deep and fishing it like a crankbait worked well on tougher days. More Largies from the deep on jerkbaits Few smallies too finally showed up Got off shore this year learning to visually follow weedlines, flipping a jig down them worked in the afternoons pretty good got to expand on this more next summer My dad and I wanted to start a tradition with my uncle and friend out where we go fishing. So here was the deal. 2 boats Dad and I vs the other two guys(locals). We did cooler’s with running bilge pump’s(Home made livewells) and went for a 4 fish limit. We set out at 5am and had until 11am so 5 hours made for a quick derby. Dad and I only boated 6 fish that morning I think with 2 in the well. We won and took bragging right’s for the summer with 8lbs 10oz the other guys had 4 fish for 7lbs 10oz haha. Nobody caught a kicker and we had basically 3 2lbr’s with one bass around 3lbs. Can’t wait to do it again always fun a little competition Last round was my trip I took back in September. We went for the last 6 days and it was fun. Fish were biting and I did pretty good. First morning, cold but got a nice smallie to come up and crush the spinnerbait Another spot another Smallmouth Only got 1 bass from slop this trip was nice to get one pitching the plastic around Back to my friend, the Jig Big fish of the trip Spinnerbait bite was strong, was happy to come across it After the rain And another Last outing for me was a fun one. After a tough 1 bite morning I was mad at the fish. I went out solo after breakfast until 3 or 4 that afternoon. Burning a spinnerbait on some weedlines produced nothing but Pike, did the jig in the same spots and came up empty. Abandoned my gameplan and went shallow and to a channel where there might of been warmer water. Sure enough I found decent slop and dead weed in the channel so we got onto a stretch of maybe 3 or 4 bites in a hundred yards. These 2 were nice so they got seats in the livewell. Made me happy and I turned a terrible day into a good day, was nice to put pressure on yourself and when you can be successful it all becomes worth it. https://youtu.be/c4qaz8wZzDg This summer I got a GoPro so am just starting editing and making little clips. Here was one I put together from my trip in September. Can’t wait to do more of this next year, thanks for reading and viewing all the pictures everybody! Be safe this winter and good luck to everybody in 2016 MTBF
  15. Wow guys, first off thank you for all the responses. As mentioned by lot's of you a Bow-Mount is in the works, a necessity for the bass fishing, I still own a transom mount so might run both well see. As for the Trim/Tilt I do see now it will be a expensive job for sure, I'll play with the motor some more. It lock's in both the down and up position. Inside the hood is mint very clean, spark plugs look good also. Problem is jumping up on the bow to navigate through the spots during travel will just take a minute, i rather standing up for a sec doing a quick trim then sitting back down and letting the throttle open up again. Going to look at the motor I think the piece mentioned for the tilt positions is broken off from the looks of it. March well bring the motor in for a quick service. I figure a good overhaul once is needed, I can winterize the motor down the road. It's the old gas sitting in the carb that scares me a little. Regardless the mechanic I'll be going to is very trusted and recommended by several friends so should be a good fit. Got a quote on a brand new Evinrude 30hp, was over 5k so making this bad boy work for a season or 2 is my goal. Going to grab a PowerDrive 55lb in the spring. The fun part will be the renovation in the spring can't wait! Thanks guys, appreciate all the feedback!
  16. The lakes I fish Dan have 2 spots that are shallow and rocky so I need to be able to trim the motor up as daily I pass these locations 2-4 times a day(channel's exiting from a lake) so the electric trim/tilt will be a must I'm afraid...aside from that a simple tune up is all I need done yes. I just can't figure out what to expect price wise on adding something like this onto a older 2-Stoke like mine.
  17. Good morning everybody. I realize there are some smart mechanics and boat owners on the forum so wanted to ask some info. I recently picked up a deep and wide 14' aluminum that came with a Evinrude 20hp model E20CRCDC leading me to believe it's a 1986. It has rope start and manual tilt. My question starts here, the 9.9hp 4-stroke Yamaha I'm use to had a "clicking" tilt adjustment so in shallow water I could click the outboard up a few positions and could get through shallow water fine, motor was light so adjusting it was easy. This motor is heavier so I want to add a electric trim/tilt onto it. Electric start is not needed but I could justify adding that as well, however my main upgrade I want to do is the electric trim/tilt. I've been passed a few names for marina's so I think I'll get the work done as I am not handy when it comes to engines....What should I expect to pay to get this done? Also what the heck kinds prop should I buy, the prop has some small wear on the edges, the boat will be heavy and I am after top end speed not fuel efficiency or anything else so if I can get a recommendation on a prop that would be awesome! Engine has good compression and turned over fine, it sat for 6 years winterized so the carb needs to be drained maybe replaced. New oil in lower unit and we should be good to go. Internals look clean and it saw 2 trips out a year. Thanks for all and any help guys. Next summer well have a small bassin machine. Looked at lot's of 16' boat's but the bigger boat meant 30-50hp for me and my needs up north I can't justify it. This boat should get me into the 22-26MPH range so doubling my speed with the 9.9 will be more than enjoyable, getting to spots quicker etc. As a side note the boat has a open floor layout with a casting deck at the bow, side storage box and 2 pedestal seats. Can't wait until winter comes and goes haha lot's to do basically a complete reno on the boat(wood/carpet/paint etc..) MTBF
  18. I'd squrit Hog Tonic Garlic scent on there motor and back carpet...dam can't seem to hit my bait as I lean over the bow of the boat . Never had guys fish this close to me, I'm not violent but verbal and a smartass. I carry a foghorn and would empty it as they made casts...perhaps circle them with the outboard...50lb braid and a crank bait, collect there lines take your scissors to theirs
  19. What a grump some people can be haha love it...probably needs to go catch some fish like me and a lot of other guys...it's not even winter yet got to get out there! Great video btw saw this on FB too. Nice to share funny crap like that on here for the fokes without Facebook can enjoy too
  20. Resin's are altered for cold weather with the Mono/Fluoro's and as mentioned you get ripped slightly with low yardage as well. P-Line Co-Polymer was always good to me.
  21. Nice fish! Beauty's for sure love the colours.
  22. Going to take notes, got to do some Flordia bass fishing one day! Let us know if you get a good guide. I'd start at the Rolan Martin Marina....yea saltwater fish run and fight but figuring out how to get a few 7 or 8+lbr largies in the boat would be amazing and something you just can't do up here and is something only a bass fisherman will understand. Florida, Texas, Mexico is the pinnacle for big bass we are blessed to have such clean lakes and fish up here but the chance at a 8lb+ are soo slim unless your pounding the pothole lakes up north. There will always be bigger and badder fish but if you don't care for it it won't ever matter...I couldn't care for salt water and assume this might be your direction also. Good luck in your search! MTBF
  23. Spring you will find more options but you will pay more money. Fall is the time to find a deal as guys that are "done" won't want to bother winterizing/storing there old rig. I just found a boat this week similar to what you are looking for. 14' with a 2-stroke and I came in well under your budget. Spring I got work to do re doing floors and carpet but that's part of the "deal" Good luck in your search!
  24. Nice fish! Fall can be rewarding and the lack of crowd's make it that more enjoyable!
