  1. Nice Rainbow! Very cool, must of been nice little fight.
  2. I just want a Largemouth over 7lbs. I've been fishing hard since the end of 2009 after getting one just once away from 7. That's my goal to break the 7lb mark with a Largemouth Bass. After that it would be a 8lb, then a 9lb and so on....
  3. Keep at it! Great pictures Pete nice job. I got to get out for those things one day, must be incredible when you finally hook-up with one. Thanks for sharing. MTBF
  4. That's the 1 thing I miss about this place is a full list of reports every time you log in. It's always hockey or family/crap talk....witch is ok but you just don't see reports on here like we did 3 or 4 years ago...Still lot's of great people on here but i think this is more of a outdoors forum than a fishing forum anymore...I try my best to post reports when I get out on the lake don't know why guys don't put in the effort anymore.
  5. Still haven't met ya in person Ryan but thanks for sharing that. You do a amazing job and I still remember the first time Facts Of Fishing THE SHOW hit the air. It was different than anything else, and look at the success now. You have brought cool camera work into the fishing show world. Can't wait to see what's filmed next year!
  6. 2 beers then bed
  7. Paper and a stamp costs to much for our government. So they do this to hope you don't remember to renew the card and hopefully get caught without a license. One fine at a time and we will have the money for the handy reminder letters again! Sorry for being smart This is nothing new captpierre, 1 full year and counting with no letters being sent out. Hard to find copies of the regulations too. MTBF
  8. Yes guys there is now a $2.24 service fee that is added onto any license or card issued through those computes. The 1yr Sport is 29 something, + $2.25 now. If you needed a new card the "Service Fee" would be $4.48 added onto the total. This is the new deal on licensing this year. 1year Small game went up a buck. Conservation 1yr is 16 something, the sport is 29 something now so it went up a dollar also. MTBF
  9. I believe the guys are off until after the new year. Try Friday or after the weekend.
  10. You guys caught em all and made them smart, now to be concistand we need the fancy equipment/lures and lines to get the 4+lbr's in the boat...I guess live bait requires the "basic" old school equipment, sit and watch the bobber I guess the biggest thing is growing technology. A manufactuter now won't produce a solid aluminum reel with brad gears due to cost so now we see all these lighter smoother reels on the market. Graphites have become much better, everything advances in this world I guess. I used the basic stuff years ago and as I grow as a angler I find myself learning more about these technology's and what makes equipment tick. Relaxing and scenery is a huge part for me. I won't miss a sunrise on the water when I'm camping...I love being on the water 14 or 16hrs a day in the summer. Very relaxing
  11. I think you need 2 rods Mike, one for Bass(Smallies/Largies) on the jerk bait and a completely different setup for Pike and the heavy braid/leaders.
  12. I use to use a Shimano Cumara it was 6'8" Medium Ex-Fast, I throw my jerk baits on straight 10lb Reaction FC Fluorocarbon, big difference this year in casting distance after switching from FC Sniper to the FC Reaction, low memory and great strength. Anyway, the Cumara was to stiff I bent hooks often. Mid summer I picked up the Megabass Orochi XX F4.5-68XX "Jerkbait Special" It's a 6'8" Medium Power with a soft action they call "Regular" I consider it Moderate-Fast or Medium -Fast. On a 5+ It bent real deep in the rod on those 1-3lbr's it bends pretty good still. Hooks stopped bending out, casting distance improved. Very light rod and the way those XX's are built they are super strong. If you throw the 110 Magnums/Ito-Shiner or just bigger jerk baits I was suggested to bump up to the Megabass Orochi XX F4.5-70XX "Flatside Special" Little bit longer little more power. Haven't fished it due to the length, I like doing erratic fast snaps and the longer rods don't work for me. Good luck in your search. The 6'8 XX is my favourite I've found and it's forcing me to throw jerk baits more and more, just a pleasure to fish with all day long. MTBF
  13. Yup, it could......... Would you call on these kids and the 2 parents if you lived 15 houses down? We need more people like the parents who put that together and less people worried about there car taking a dent on the 1% chance something could go wrong if it happened...LOL
  14. I'd crap on the neighbours door step for complaining....we hear kids all summer on the street outside my house on skate boards. We have never complained and never will. Most likely some old retired guy/girl with nothing better to do than ruin a good thing for the community. I hope they keep the boards up and I hope the kids continue to enjoy the hockey, most people can't afford to enrol the young ones in hockey these days. I would love to see 5 or 6 city workers show up and look at the faces on those 10 or 15 kids... MTBF
  15. Try a Stradic, might be over $200 bucks but you won't waste 100-150 3 or 4 years in a row. The nice thing is after a few years use you can get the reel serviced and it will be ready for more.
  16. I love high end gear. It is made with the best materials and parts and you rarely have issues with it. As another guy mentioned once you have fished with a high end rod like a G.Loomis NRX you will find it hard to justify spending $100 on a rod to flip jigs with. When you consider the higher end rods are half the weight 2x the sensitivity and just feel better in your hand all day long it pays for it's self. I get to fish 20-40 days a year and I'll be dammed if I let crappy equipment stop me from making 1000 perfect casts each day, I don't want a gear to slip, i want the drag to be perfect and i don't like fatigue. Lighter reels and balanced setups are more comfortable in your hand and let you focus on fishing rather than that 10oz reel and 6oz rod making your wrist soar after a 10hr day on the lake. It's no different with any other thing in this world. A high end lure is usually airbrushed, uses good quality hooks and split rings an won't rust when wet or fall apart easily. It's no different with rods and reels in you get what you pay for. I've burnt through reels before, $100 spinning and bait casters. If you consider the 3 or 4 reels you might burn out over 10 or 15 years vs the 1 Stradic or Stella you might buy and have last the same time you really aren't paying more in the end. The question is are you a weekend warrior or passionate serious fisherman who gets out for a few weeks each season. I learned quick when you have a opportunity to grab something high end on sale do it! I've grown so much as a angler the last 5 or 6 years and the better equipment has helped me catch more and learn more about fishing. Reels made in Japan are a hit in my books. Quality and refinement is much better. MTBF
  17. A friend of mine is starting a You Tube channel, have a look at the link above. Makes me look at the snow outside and cry Have a good morning everybody. MTBF
  18. O man, it was a bad year for spending this year. In the spring were a couple items I found used and the rest were ordered and new Chronarch 100D7 x2,Core 50Mg7, Core 100Mg7,Stella FE 1000 I got the new Shimano Expride 7'1H and Crucial 7'6MH bait casters back in the late winter/spring time. This fall I picked up the new Calcutta Conquest 100, a Stella FI 3000XG, another Expride this time a 7'3XH and a Orochi XX Jerkbait rod by Megabass. There is more, I just don't have a list made up....Lures, Plastics, Line...that is a hole different story...I'd rather not remember what we bought this year
  19. Hope a 1 year ban on his license and at least a $500-1000 fine. Well see if the fishery/musky guys get's any justice. Will we see and outcome? Please post guys if you come across it.
  20. Was lot's of fun! Wish I got out more in September out there! Thanks bud! Yes the guys from the shop are great! Those smallmouth are addicting that's for sure! Flip, only way I seem to find big largies that or froggin. I wish to get out more believe me! Thanks for the comment Ron. Yes you did great too! Thanks for posting. Love the 110+1 out here, steep drops and most of the time I deal with deeper water. Awesome jerk bait won't waste 5 or 10 bucks on any other jerkbait again. Thanks man! Great comments guys thanks! Winter is coming, I got the Husqvarna warmed up the other day ready to drill some holes through the ice. Going to be a fun winter I hope!
  21. Nice report what a year! Thanks for sharing with us. MTBF
  22. Good morning everybody. Well it's just about December 1st and I have packed it all in for the 2014 season. This year was a blast. I got out for trout in the spring, some walleye fishing after that with my good buddy Glen. Then we got to take a nice 2 week camping trip this summer in August. The bass were around and we had a blast. After our camping trip I returned for a night and a day in September for some more bass fishing with another friend of mine, Wayne. Truly got to fish with good friends this summer. Last year I did much better with the Largemouth fishing in terms of size vs numbers. This summer I still found good fish but wanted to learn smallmouth bass. With the confidence I gained in August I brought out the jerk baits and finesse gear in search of some smallmouth bass with my good pal Matt. We got out to a lake about a hour south of Bancroft 3 or 4 times. We chased smallies every trip and got onto a decent routine. With no fish finder or bow-mount trolling motor we had a big boat and hoped for low wind so we could drift around and over spots. These challenges just make you spoiled when the proper boat and electronics all merry together in the future trips. I love challenges. Here we go, it was April or May can't remember now but Trout just opened up. I wan't going to fish the bottom end of Oshawa creek with the crowds, I am fortunate enough to have a park close to the house. I went down with a 6'6 Light action spinning rod, 1000 sized spinning reel and straight 6lb line/4lb fluoro leader. I normally avoid the creek but I couldn't resist. Using reaction baits like 1/16oz/1/8oz spinners, size 0 and 1 Quik-Fish crank baits worked well. I got 2 or 3 nice fish this spring on my little 1-2hr walks around the creek. Good practice for the real fish later in the spring/summer First of the spring, smashed the bait downstream lot's of head shakes awesome fight! Few days later, higher water and a smaller but nicer looking trout! Beauty in the sun, all I was missing was a brown or brook trout now. A little champion from the creek, hope to find a bigger one next spring. Took the spinner in a spot I couldn't even stand up in cause of the tree cover. Spring Walleye was next. I went out with a friend from the shop. We were out on a flat morning fish were active boated a few in the slot and a couple of overs as well. I was staying away from the traditional buck-tail or ripping a small swimbait, went for the Black Blue Flake 3.5" TexasRig-Jig. Big 5/0 hook and started ripping it through the deeper weed(8-10ft). As soon as I hopped the craw I felt the thud, up comes a walleye! Big rod big line, fish didn't stand a chance Got him to change to the craw also. I looked beside the boat as he was about to lift the TRJ out of the water, the claws flapped and this huge head came up out of the weed...."Look, look!!!" Wham, this fish engulfed it! Was stoked for him, laughing at the same time with the new found craw pattern. Did I mention I found a dirty Musky this summer...was burning the craw in after a long cast to get out a tangle....the rod stopped, this fish had to of been swimming 10MPH i was reeling fast to get my line in. Fun little fight. Next trip was bass fishing time. The Kawarthawa's are loaded with bass as we all know. It's nice to slowly start fishing them more and more. Here was my best for the day, not a 4 but a good bass. Was fun swimbait bite slow rolling it watching the "v's" come towards your bait. Heart stopping just about! Next trip out was the start of August. I worked my tail off most of July getting ready for camping. Dad, my uncle little brother and I all went. Here are some pictures seen in a big report done back in August. 1st morning, 1st solid largemouth. Next day a near nickel smashed the craw, pitching cover in a good area. Next day's big largemouth, big bass of the trip I believe. We were 2 or 3 days in and I had so many scenarios going through my head on where to start looking for smallies. Got 2 of nice size the first evening. Lead to lot's of success finding spots and general areas...timing was so key. Jerk bait fish, straight 10lb fluoro and the 110+1 Another nice keeper After a good nite by the camp fire I came up with another game plan. Next day I was taking my uncle out for some fun. I got my aerated cooler and got it in the 14'. Changed water out every 20-30minutes and we caught 6 that morning keeping our biggest 4 in the well. Great shot, can't wait to get a photo like this with my dad next summer! Big Smallie time! This was the first "big" smallmouth out here in a long time. Was nice to see, no bars on it's side or markings...just a old looking healthy fish. Hope to find a 5+ next summer this one was just under. Dad with his first on the frog that trip. I love chasing the fish through the slop, I get on that trolling motor as soon as he hooked up! Light flipping with the TRJ. Nice bass to follow dad's My uncle with a good frog largemouth. Early morning Pop-X fun. Got to be patient, it's a slow way to cover water but those huge casts and slow working of the bait works. I never miss a 5am start, the fishing is just to good. Time for a quick breakfast now that the sun is up, then back on the water until late afternoon A nice quality largemouth on the frog! Another bass, evening this time I remember. Short and chubby, great fish. Smallmouth time once again I wish I could put the frog down, great colours on this fish. I won't forget the end to that amazing weather. Next day was the big cold front and rain, we ended the last 2 days of the trip with bad conditions but we got the last evening to be a dry one. Caught more nice bass just had to slow down some. Sticking it out, few small bass and too many of these guys. Pike time, just not my cup of tea. Redemption came down the stretch a little more with this nice smallmouth. Loved the FoodChain tube. One more of Dad, he got the good largemouth of the afternoon. Beat me up a little Finally the sky's cleared and I got out for another fix of pitching the plastics. Went to a spot with current expecting rain might of brought food down the creek. Got a smallie in 3 or 4FOW, fast current pitched out and my line was moving...fast! Green Pumpkin/Purple Flake TRJ Drove to another spot got a largie to bite. This trip was over the following morning. We packed it all in and had a blast. Next summer's "August" report will be a 3 week report...stay tuned I'm excited as hell! September was next. My other buddy from the shop I brought down for a day of cold front bass fishing, before these 2 days it was hot and after we left it warmed up. I wish we got onto numbers but got a few nice fish through the hours we were out. Here was a smallmouth for me right off the hop! Closed the day with a big largemouth on the Swinging Hammer. Great fish and my last "big one" for the lake for 2014...well be back next summer. And my buddy with a quality bass the next morning, got our fix and a break from the city. Next came October. My friend Matt invited me out a few weeks in a row there for some day trips chasing smallies. We did ok with numbers but not size the first few trips out. Here is myself with my first 2 on a new lake. Matt with his 2 nicer one's for the day. He got a nice one on the deep crank bait 2nd trip out. I caught them all day but all small bass. Was a good day again! No boats to share the lake with either. Next trip it was cooler out. We got out on the lake for 10 or 11 in the morning. Had some waves but decent weather. I was working the jerk bait slow and saw this big smallmouth behind it. Have the 110+1 a good dart, then let it hang...fish grabbed it and the fight was on. Weighed in at just under 5 1/2lbs. My new PB smallmouth, going to break it next summer that is my goal and mission. My 2 for the day, made the 2 1/2 look very small...but that's ok. Felt great capping off a long season with a big smallmouth. Last trip was 2 weeks ago I believe. We got out for 4 or 5 hours of more jerk bait fishing. The big fish didn't come out to play. With no electronics it didn't feel right to give the deep water a go. With no structure or confidence we covered water again. I got the 2 nice fish for a photo at the end of the day. Can't wait to travel East and again going North to fish these lakes also. Well that was my year. I got to fish lot's this season and couldn't be happier. Got smallmouth confidence to guide me into next season but I'm still not satisfied with those buckets. We need to see a 7lb largemouth in 2015 to break my PB from 2009. Each season add a technique to your arsenal. It might be a extra rod/reel or more tackle but the success in knowing more tactics is huge. The jerk bait was new to me this year and I worked it lots. The swimbait I spend more time with as well. Next year I'm going to fish swim jigs and the drop shot some to add these techniques to my bass world. Thanks for looking/reading everybody. It's always great to reflect and look back on a season. Ice fishing is next. Tightens everybody MTBF
  23. December 12th, HT Ice Fishing Seminar with Big Jim and others! Gagnon Sports

  24. where is the "eject a couch potato button"? Considering it was 6:42am I'll take into account you were under the influence of no coffee and waking up on the wrong side of the bed Wonder how the "playthings for our enjoyment" thread would go on here...start r up if you got the steam my friend
  25. Hey don't need to back me up Lew I'm not taking any comments from the boys here personal. Hunting is hunting, what those boys do on the wolf site isn't hunting and I think we can all agree. But thank you for the comment there Lew. My uncle has a farm, I bet half of these guys never been on a farm...o well, another crazy bunch
