Some reels are just outrageously priced for what they actually are though or, even how well they actually perform over a similar reel at lesser cost. High end too but at what cost to manufacture? Mark-up on fishing stuff in general is over-the-top for what it is and costs to produce, and most of us know that. Fished alongside many guys with better rods and reels than my own, and the end results had pretty well nothing to do with our differences in gear.

Like Mike I too have a favorite but will certainly have to enjoy his sometime. Mine, you can spin or fly fish but you won't likely catch a fish less than 5 pounds, on the Tree. In all of it's natural magnificence amidst some remarkably remote and harsh tundra, the Tree stands the greatest World Record producing Arctic char fishery on the planet. Thing is, these char are considered an enigma themselves with genetic ties to Dolly Varden greater than with any other char ever studied. This gives them a distinctive appearance but better yet, sizes up to and bettering 35 pounds which seems nearly if not impossible for char so far found anywhere else. Some other rivers I'd like to fish... Sutton for specks for sure, for more char the George and others in Ungava or, some rivers near Cambridge Bay. The George again for Atlantics. Lower down on the list, the Skeena and systems for rainbows. The Lakitusaki in Polar Bear Provincial Park would be another place, for specks and lakers. But now that the Tree has gotten into me, I'll likely be back there in the coming year or two. Those specks on roids may not get caught in big numbers, but the size and strength is awesome.

Went right to the pike G! Cause ya know I like. Solid 42 dood!
-
Chunk bows! Solid day of stocking up for a feed. Nice!

Geeeeeeeeznus Mikey!!! You're gettin' ripped dood! Keeping in good shape to fight the bigguns I see. Gotta say, really impressed by this. I know Cabo has always been one of the better Pacific hotspots but what makes this cool is the style you put into it. You're always mixing it up, (even around home) and your experimenting often pays off. I'll drive us to the airport next time your going. lol. Congrats on those new species. Couple of goodies to knock off the list for sure.

Almost 18-inches of ice here, no auger and no time... AND YOU POST THIS!!! Jealous. But nice! Great last Q-Pig too dood!

Need extra thumbs for the thumbs up this report needs. Congrats on acquiring the new camp, what a little home away from home that's gonna be for you and the buddies. So the report has deer, skies, trout, kids, friends, Algonquin and a front-end loader... Gotta say that pretty much amounts to a whole pile of man-awesome. lol. Tougher spring for most in the park this past year. Just such a weird spring. Ya did alright though and I'll look out for next years chapter too.

Wickedly wonderful pics! Short, sweet and colorful report. Enjoyed that. Keep passing on the fishing to them... and bring it right back here for us.

Dang doods! Chris Lake it is!!! Do fellow Bravo drivers get a day pass? lol. Seriously nice specks. Great early season outing Chris... and Chris.

Video of a "sportsman" dragging a trophy Musky to his truck
Moosebunk replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
It's funny, I actually sat with an old Native friend just this afternoon who's point of view is, there should be no such thing as catch and release fishing at all. It harms fish for no good reason, gives them "infections" and is a pointless waste of time. He certainly doesn't agree with "sport"fishing and when I brought up tournament fishing to joke, he nearly got up and walked away. "Terrible thing the White ego," he said. He's obviously in a minority as well. -
That's 5% off to those who paid for the 10% off card. Not 25%. lol.

Fish species should not be made illegal to keep solely for reasons of "sport." That's a slippery slope. Unfortunately can't view the video here in the boonies today. -
Embarrassing/funny moments while fishing....
Moosebunk replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Only ever made it to Walleye Heaven twice... cause after the second trip there was no going back. Ahhhh well, crap happens I guess. -
White Russians... and turkey!
-
Did I not just sit outside and fish that day? lol.
-
I think ya made a good choice Jeff.

Lakers I like the Legend Premier rods 32ML, 36M & 36MH depending on what sizes of fish I'm expecting to catch. In the Kenai or 2-man Pop-up there's enough room for the 36-inchers.

Whats the fish you have always wanted catch?
Moosebunk replied to LostAnotherOne's topic in General Discussion
Would like to catch Atlantic salmon but in Ungava on the George River at Helens Falls. Specific I know. lol. Otherwise, tarpon... on the Carribean side of Costa Rica. Also BIG inconnu from anywhere would be a cool one too. -
Tough to pick one... Jimmy Superfly Snuka, Ricky the Dragon, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Ultimate Warrior were probably the favorites of the bunch. The British Bulldogs, Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid were the favorite tag team.

Bought in 2014 and planning on getting in 2015!
Moosebunk replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
After 15 years it was time to let a different truck do the towing... ... Other than that, picked up a Terrova80, a Daiwa ultralight and Crucial spinning rod to replace some broken sticks. Most purchasing in a year goes to using what I have... using it in far off and fun places, and around home. Nothing much to buy in 2015 for fishing... plan to spend on Arctic travel and Northern Ontario trips. Some lures and line and a travel rod. -
If Rugger is on this board he took a good and cheaper charter out of Cocoa Beach for roosters... and did well. I'd say that the inshore is pretty shotty, we nailed tonnes of jacks, bonitos, mackerels and needlefish back in 2002 on a morning charter, but then last year went inshore a day and a half and it was pretty slow. That and, the gear was shart and tackle old and extremely limited. Lost a rooster, big cuda, mahi mahi and some other fish. You may want to take gear of your own unless paying really "good" money. Offshore opps usually more expensive can be where it's at. Costa Rica tourism has grown a tonne in the past 15-20 years... so much so it's expensive now with many people looking to just take you for a ride. If any charter advertises like $50-100 PP, you're pretty well garunteed you'll be packed on a boat with a dozen people to just go out to sea and pray you're on a rod that may fire.

Not sure about the "edible" comments? Consumption for numbers and size is greater off the Great Lakes than it is many, many remote and pristine Ontario back lakes. Remembering that, it's mercury which is tested in walleye, as "little" levels of other pollutants are actually found in their meat and, they live rather short lives in the GL's. This is only what I recall though, from a telephone conversation with someone with "The Guide To Eating Ontario Sportfish." Think overall the boat only had few with blown-out air bladders this year, most bigger eyes actually hitting higher up on the shallowest lines. Wonderbread and Barbie were the best by far. Those kept and consumed along with a few other keepers, tasted just fine.

Can't hear video while at work. But want to. You guys did awesome with the editing and angles. Liked watching. Some excellent pics too! And I so wanted to go fishing that same day in November... but couldn't.

Can't help either... really do know little of investments... especially those for the long term. But that said, great thread to read through. Do believe though, (for maybe some other's reading) that it doesn't hurt when you're young to invest in an education or skill that has "actual" job prospects, even if that maybe means incurring some extra debt on top of debt already existing. Get working, make better money, and sock some of it away for the old and grey. And don't make it all about the end game either... there's plenty space in the middle you won't get back, and plenty things you won't be physically able to do despite finally having the time and money to do so.

Some incredible fish this year Trev. Seriously... Love the muskies and specks most but man, there's a tonne of goodies in this one. Best to ya in 2015.
