  1. Oh they definitely do, but most of that good cover is in shallow water, which is far too warm for them this time of year. They will sneak up into feeding areas during low light hours.
  2. I'm thinking more and more that a yak on the little speck lakes would be a load of fun, and deadly effective.
  3. Awesome! I hope this doesn't trigger a cavalcade of tooners out to the big lake to grease you out of your spot!
  4. If you have some leftover brine from a tub, top up any Gulp bags you might have to make sure everythings nice and moist. They tend to dry out in the bag and become unusable after a season or two.
  5. Did it occur to you that there could be more than one person in the boat? The limit is 6 pretty much everywhere north of 17. I'd put that fish around 4 pounds, but it's not a great shot so it's hard to tell. A lot of people seem to forget just how well a simple crawler works for smallies.
  6. midsummer brookies on unfamiliar turf will be a challenge. For starters I wouldn't try and tackle them on the fly rod lol. If you have access to a canoe try and slow troll 10-20 FOW with a small worm harness and a couple big split shot. Fish first light and last light, fish for bass mid day.
  7. Largemouth are great eating fish, fry them in a cast iron with butter and oil in whatever breading mixture you like, nothing fancy. Shouldn't have to worry about the dark fatty 'muddy' meat on the pound and a half'ers, don't keep anything big and you'll have a great experience.
  8. Sounds like things are looking up, and the information may not end up being disclosed. Definitely a precedent-setting story, being in the spotlight of the angling community like this is.
  9. Colour of the fish alone isn't much of an indicator of its origins. In many instances, in various systems, I've caught walleyes one after each that were polar opposites in terms of colouration (pale beige colured to dark yellow and blue) in areas where they couldn't have came from anywhere else. Walleye have different colour phases in the same system just like many other animals.
  10. Awesome story, good for you Mike.
  11. Those gloomy overcast days with consistent drizzle and a low ceiling generally make for an active bite, strong low pressure and blowing wind/hard rain generally do not.
  12. That brookie is real big, great trip!
  13. mattawa adventure camp is an atv trail riding hotspot. The voyageur multi-use trail system is awesome. you won't be disappointed.
  14. awesome walleye fishing in the area. Sounds like fun
  15. Tank scrubber...hilarious
  16. Sounds like they are lucky they had an easy going group...You'd think that much misinformation is going to catch up with them sooner rather than later.
  17. I've been getting away from battered fish over the last couple months, losing my appetite for it (save for special events like camping). Baked some walleye fillets in clarified butter, basil and lemon pepper tonight...500 degrees for 6 minutes, absolutely awesome. Whats your favourite way to bake walleye and pike sans flour?
  18. Absolutely wicked vid Luke. The 'O' face after he feels the bite is just priceless.
  19. Buy bait at Gramps, and don't hold your breath on catching a walleye from shore where you will be. Some smallies should be around, I wouldn't count on much else.
  20. That trick, or some variation on it, is quite common in barbless provinces like Manitoba, works well!
  21. Incredible walleye action
  22. Well, I don't think the lake trout were overly affected by that spill, mainly the atlantics since 4 mile creek is the primary spawning ground and 'nursery' for the lake. I could be wrong about that though.
  23. The lake trout were never close to being wiped out, and the atlantics were introduced back in the 30's or 40's (I believe). Not sure why they are so insistent on protecting a non-native introduced species that doesnt seem to be doing overly well in the first place. Trout lake is chalk full of lakers with some incredible trophy potential due to the smelt abundance in the lake. They should keep the slot restrictive and give people a little more of a season to enjoy such a cool local fishery.
  24. That's an awesome trip. Amazing place for sure man.
