  1. Spent many hundreds of hrs in a sportspal with an electric trolling motor. Battery definitely doesn't need to be covered, just more of a pain to bring a case with it. If we were two in a canoe the battery went under the seat but on solo missions I would push it as far up towards the middle as the cables would allow and added some rocks in the bow. Depending on what you plan on doing with it, a gas motor may be a better option.
  2. Gonna watch this tonight. I always enjoy your content.
  3. Awesome report! Summer lakers are some of my favourite trips of the year. Really easy to dial in most times too.
  4. Awesome. I'd rather do that with light gear than rub shoulders for steelhead.
  5. That is a clean machine.
  6. That's pretty well what I was gonna say. Absolutely the lunar cycle plays a role but its only one piece of a huge puzzle.
  7. Awesome...he won't be forgetting that anytime soon.
  8. Those seals dont last forever, even in perfect conditions. Quick easy fix, don't sweat it.
  9. Watched it this morning, awesome stuff! Love that they aren't shy to hit a walleye jig, while the guys down south are finessing with tiny jigs and 2 lb test
  10. The only thing I like more than finding a secret lure, is telling strangers on the internet about it... But seriously, Temagami is full of smallies, if you know how to catch smallies, you will get them in many different areas. There are plenty of articles online about fishing smallmouth in deep clear shield lakes, those articles would definitely apply to Temagami.
  11. Likely low pH (probably a big factor), low water clarity and shallow.
  12. Its usually early June. Once you start seeing 12 ft boats with 5 people in it from the city, you know the whities are running.
  13. I doubt very much that any of those lakes that far north hold brookies. Brook trout are pretty much strictly in rivers once you get that far north. You can roll the dice, but if it were me driving that far, I wouldn't bother. You've got a million good brookie lakes much closer to home.
  14. Man your boat is decked out now! Nice crappies
  15. There's sooooo many efficient ways to catch lake trout either by trolling or jigging. Ive never felt the need to use minnows dead or alive. My favourite flatlining spoon is a 3/4 oz cleo spoon and for trolling behind weight or leadcore i prefer williams wabblers or whatever flutter spoon you like. For jigging, 1/2 oz or heavier jigs and 3-5 inch paddle tail minnows are great.
  16. I usually use a nail knot to attach my fly line to leader, double uni to tippet and a normal clinch to the fly. Fly lines with welded loops are my favourite though lol
  17. just finished my first ever batch of trout (splake/speck/laker) and it turned out excellent. It's definitely a heck of a lot more simple than some enthusiasts would have you believe, and definitely not an exact science when it comes to brining ratios and smoking times etc. I made my brine with less sugar than what the recipe called for to make a very basic toned down brine and it still turned out fantastic. I also smoked them for about 3.5 hrs to keep them fairly moist and not overly smokey (small fillets mostly). Cant wait to start tinkering with different chips and brines etc
  18. I think you'll love living on the river. It's a busy enough body of water and I think just simply observing what everyone else is doing while youre out there will give you a general idea of patterns and you can go from there. Its a productive walleye fishery.
  19. The resins in cedar smoke are highly carcinogenic from what I have read. Something worth looking into. Doesn't sound too nice.
  20. I wonder if they'll have a candle lit vigil for this one? LOL
  21. I'm in the same boat as you, just got a smoker last week. Got a nice batch of specks, lakers, and splake from the last couple weeks ready to go once i get back from camping this week. I'll report back with my findings.
  22. I enjoy smallmouth, and dont hesistate to keep them when I'm looking for a fish fry, but they are notable step down from walleye and panfish.
  23. To add to what Rick said, they are invasive on pretty much every small lake in northern Ontario as well, and if they are i introduced into brook trout waters, the brookies will be gone in no time. Not to mention they're nowhere near spawning yet. They should be open all winter until May long weekend everywhere in Ontario. Stupid how the provinces most prolific and abundant sportfish is ridiculously overprotected.
  24. Stocking walleye is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. If you can't address the root causes of your fisheries decline, artificially propping up the population up with stocking is a wasteful, short-sighted solution.
  25. It felt awesome brushing snow off my truck this morning Oh well, the nasty stuff should be done for a week or two, just in time for my holidays starting friday.
