  1. Good for you. That your Edge 800? You'll have to invest in a long track for the backwoods lakes. We weren't able to put the boat in the water until May last two yrs, looks like we'll be a week or two ahead of that this yr (fingers crossed at least)
  2. That is an outfitter I have not heard of...sounds incredible!
  3. Lady Evelyn is an excellent walleye fishery. If you go in June, I'd imagine you'd do quite well.
  4. Hoping to be able to be out in the boat before May this year, hasn't been possible the last 2 yrs. Definitely far less snow in the bush this yr compared to last 2, but more ice due to the lakes having zero snow on the ice for a big portion of the winter. More thaws = more ice unfortunately.
  5. Oh boy...Let's just drive over a pressure crack without even getting out of the vehicle and inspecting. Like Sinker said, that lake has about 3 ft of ice on it right now, you don't through for no reason.
  6. Awesome deal for sure, nice pan. I'm quite content with cast iron, though I don't do any serious amount of portaging.
  7. Most people here hunt in treestands or ground blinds. If you go through the effort of building a stand, clearing some shooting lanes, putting out salt licks/cameras etc I think it's fair to mark your spot.
  8. Fair enough. Of course there is safe ice to be found, it's just that most people will be hesitant to give someone who is likely new to ice fishing an endorsement of ice safety unless they know that you're aware of how to do your due diligence, especially with inconsistent this winter has been. Maybe I should have just said "yes" lol
  9. That's just a winter beard...And winter weight. Just can't figure out how to get rid of either.
  10. There's only so many threads you can make...OFC is helpful but it's no substitute for going out and finding out yourself. Yes there's safe ice pretty much everywhere in the province except for southern Ontario. You could drive a tank on Nipissing.
  11. I suppose it would depend on the volume of hunters in the area My area (13 west) is one the busiest moose hunting regions in the province so people are pretty strict with marking territory. I would not mark the access unless you are sure you'll be hunting the same spot for multiple days. If you're going to be covering a larger river 'nomadically' I wouldn't bother. Sounds like an awesome trip you've got planned there.
  12. I've been out 7 or 8 trips this winter, only once was there no keepers iced (averaging 2-3 a trip between the group)
  13. Well, if there's really no signage up already, then I wouldn't see there being a problem. Most posted signs will have the years that they are going to use the spot. I believe ours say 2016-2020.
  14. Yep, going to go from awesome to crazy awesome these next two weeks
  15. Let's go exploring this spring. I speak english just fine.
  16. You have many many choices and the fishing is pretty much excellent anywhere. Are you bringing your own boats? How big of a lake would you tolerate? Not sure how cushy is too cushy for your group, but Reserve Beauchene is pretty much the epitome of excellent trout fishing, and 5+ star accomodations. The main lake is great for lakers, and they have tons of backlakes loaded with specks, splake, and lakers (some stocked, and some natural). Cabonga reservoir is an amazing lake trout fishery, and apparently a pretty beautiful and gigantic piece of water, don't know any particular outfitters but I'm sure there are some very nice facilities on the lake. There are many ZEC's in the province which operate nice outfitters in areas with lots of small brook and lake trout waterbodies. Go on the main ZEC website, click english and spend a night investigating your options if you're more into the small lake thing.
  17. All claimed hunting spots around here are posted, and it is always specified what season they will be there (bow/rifle/blackpowder). If it's posted for rifle, you don't hunt there, that's pretty much all there is to it.
  18. -21 tonight, -26 tomorrow night and snow up to my arse everywhere ya look, yeehaw
  19. Currently getting a nice blast of powder and -20 the next three nights in a row. Ice will be here well into April in these parts, right on schedule.
  20. It's not even March, people, of course there's lot of season left yet for anywhere other than southern Ontario, which never had a good base of ice this year to begin with.
  21. Jeremy, nip will probably have the most ice it'll have all year by early March, just like every other season. I have a feeling March is going to hit us hard, I'm anticipating another awesome month of sledding and fishing at least.
  22. Fish Online has very easy to comprehend stocking lists?? If you're not willing to come up empty handed for a memorable backwoods adventure, then brookie fishing is definitely not for you.
  23. It was pretty neat to be sledding over 3-4 ft of snow in +10 degree weather in February.
  24. Awesome Simon. Wish we had crappie around here
