  1. Fished Bears Den last summer for a week nice place. It's all about current in the lower French. We did well on the Eastern outlet for walleye. I was vertical jigging them up one after the other with a spoon tipped with a worm. Watch the slot though, there's a very specific slot for the lower. It's a bit of a boat ride from the lodge.. Be warned, once you make that right hand turn at the very bottom of the easterm towards Dalles Rapids there's a HUGE rock right in the middle of the channel. Go slow and mark it or else you'll be saying bye bye to your lower unit. Other then that stay in the middle of most places and you'll be good. The river to the west of the lodge has some really nice pads/weeds at the mouth, I had a few blow ups by some nice largies. If you take that river all the way to the rapids there are a lot of dead heads, you've been warned lol
  2. I love Zone 14 bass opener. I've got my milk run that I've been doing for quite a long time and it never disappoints. Water temps were 66 when I got to my spot, started off quick and that wasn't going to be the ticket today. Long bomber casts with spybaits was the pattern that worked for me today. Winds were ripping out of the west so it was bumpy out there. I did keep two fish (I know, unheard of for this guy) and one was still full of eggs. Spawn has been crazy this year. If I would have known that she would have gone back. I did however set a PB for another species I chase in Gbay, lol. The funny thing is I swear I've raised this fish 3 times over the past 4 years almost every single 4th Sat in June. It was nice to finally meet her. This is definitely her home base and today was my lucky day. I was by myself, it was chaos, I'm so happy I left my muskie gear in the boat (Net included). I tried to get a tape on her but with her not sitting perfectly straight in the net it was almost impossible and I wasn't taking her out to lay her in the boat to do that. She was a giant. I don't know if she touched 50 or over but it had to be close. She spent a few seconds out of the water for a quick pic and back in she went. Took about 5 mins to revive her, I'm glad the water temps were low. Way too long of a fight on bass gear but not much I can do about that. She righted herself and stayed a few inches below the surface for about a min or so, and I just followed her around with the boat. After that some healthy tail kicks and down she went. I'd love to meet you in the fall sweetheart when you've got a feedbag on! It was really nice to make your acquaintance.
  3. Nanofil is the perfect spinning reel line. 6lb casts a mile! All I run on my spinning setups.
  4. Yup, I've used it a few time. Brian, yeah. The Williams basically becomes the dodger in this case. Remove the hook , run a lead and tie on that fly.
  5. 20mins might be a stretch
  6. Even tying those behind a Williams would be killer. Early season laker killer!
  7. Springwater Trailers in Midhurst.
  8. Heh. Trailer tires are good for 3-4 years max. I think people see decent thread and think they're ok. I just stuffed a new 3500lb thick walled axle and 14in rims/tires under my Shor'Landr. Nice little upgrade.
  9. The new layer available on your Navionics Boating app, Platinum+ and Hotmaps Platinum
  10. I can read 2D sonar on my 898c HD with the 180 HDSI transducer at 35mph no problem. Sounds like you've got an alignment/install issue on that 'ducer.
  11. First thing I do with a new to me boat is new tires all around on the trailer. Zero exceptions.
  12. Georgianbaymessageboard would be the place to try. Not super busy but great reports and guys willing to share info. Tough fishery to crack.
  13. Exchange makes picking up used goods across the pond a pain in the rear. I just picked up a Helix 12, saved over a $1000 instead of buying it here but the exchange rate was still a hard thing to swallow lol
  14. Time to stock up on ribs. I haven't done a brisket yet but it's on the list.
  15. I just picked up a Grilla Chimp, what an awesome little pellet smoker. I'm on pitmaster competition blend now, it's fine. To be honest I'm so new to this I really couldn't tell you if they were bad or not. After I'm done this bagI'm going to try Lumberjack. Really good reviews from the folks over on the Grilla Facebook page.
  16. Get the kids from Fleming down, they'll do anything lol
  17. Check spoonpullers
  18. Shallow. Long bomber casts with spybaits would be the first thing I toss for Erie bass come opener.
  19. The reports I've read from the MNR about prime spawning water on that lake aren't good. Look at the lakers caught through the ice this year, mostly all big fish, low numbers, not many fish in the 3-6lb range. That lake cannot sustain a natural population of lakers in it's current state with the amount of fishing pressure it gets. MNR better get their act together.
  20. Topwaters for bass, only lure I'd have on at the start of the season. Any rock points, etc.
  21. Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda.
  22. Lake trout reproduction in Simcoe is horrible. I wouldn't be worried about the gobies, I'd be worried about the lack of prime spawning habitat for those fish. We're already seeing a huge decline of lakers in Simcoe, if the MNR doesn't start their stocking program back up and soon, that fishery is done. Way to much silt and stuff over the spawning beds, due to farm runoff, etc.
  23. Get some leadcore on that fly reel and you'd have a riot, lol
