  1. Angler's Atlas has some depth maps. http://www.anglersatlas.com/lake/102505
  2. I can't imagine what that was like for the family. Finally they can make peace with it.
  3. I always enjoyed my trips to the French River. The times I've gone we stayed in Wolseley Bay at Wolseley Bay Lodge and Bryer Lodge, which were decent. Always wondered about Totem Point, maybe next trip. Good to see you did well there! Our trips have always been in the fall and the fishing was always a bit of a challenge for us. Beautiful place though, especially considering it's location.
  4. An El Gordo style lottery would be interesting.
  5. Nice fish. The Crappie in the Kawarthas can be monsters. Weird thing for me is that I usually only catch one mixed in with other species.
  6. 20km/h is about my limit. Anything over that and I am not comfortable navigating the boat in. Maybe if I was using a bigger boat, but not the 14-16' tinnies that I have to rent.
  7. Probably on Scugog in Caesarea or Rice Lake at Bewdley or Gores Landing? BTW, have you ever seen the movie Pontypool? For some reason I watched that movie and about a year later I drove through Pontypool then realizing it's a real town.
  8. I have two tackle bags. One is a Bass Pro Shops brand the other a Cabelas brand. Holds 7/8 standard profile boxes I think? More than I need anyway. Works great for me. All my stored tackle is in Plano boxes in Rubbermaid bins.
  9. I suggest you look for lakes stocked with Splake. There are several that aren't too bad of a hike from Hwy 60. Not sure how good the fishing will be from shore in June, but you never know. http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/pdf/fishstocking.pdf
  10. Most will be full weeks only in July, unless they really need to fill a vacancy. Besides, if you plan on going for a weekend the price is not much lower than a full week at many places. Regardless, never hurts to call. I can recommend Elmhirst Resort and Muskie Bay on Rice Lake [although, I haven't been to Muskie Bay since the new owners took over]. Southview Cottages is also OK. Golden Beach Resort has some nice cottages, but it's a really big place and not all cottages are nice. Camp Fisherman on Pigeon Lake is alright. Pigeon Lake resort is also OK, was a bit more rustic though. I haven't been to either an several years though. Rice Lake has the nicest cottages but Pigeon always had better fishing. Could always try private as well. I used VRBO in March and rented a really nice cottage for a weekend of ice fishing.
  11. .....and then they try to "sell" you their credit card. Nothing beats the typical exchange at the checkout: cashier - "Would you like to help the sick, dying, helpless children today by giving $1?" me - "Nope.". Lol, talk about an uncomfortable feeling. What's even worse is what you often discover when you follow the money you donate. I rarely donate money these days and only after I am somewhat confident the money actually goes to where it's supposed to. Which, more often than not, it doesn't. I could go on and on about the various charities, but I think that might end up painting me as a monster
  12. For the copper spoons you could try soaking them in a mild acid, like lemon juice or vinegar/ketchup. Ever drop a penny in some cola? That always cleaned them up! If the others are silver (not sure if EGB's use real silver plate or not?), but good old baking soda with a piece of aluminum foil and hot water works great.
  13. Yes. It's been going on forever, but it's unlikely you'll see that nowadays in the more populated areas of Ontario.
  14. Very nice. Definitely a unique hobby. The ones you refurbished look brand new.
  15. Not any more. They changed from a true Dollar store to what they are now probably 10 years ago. Nice, I am going go get me some hats!! Hopefully my local store has some. That Lunkerhunt slip bobber kit is a really good deal too.
  16. I picked up one of these Plano boxes from Dollarama for $3. It's labeled as a storage box for the Rainbow Loom. First time I've seen them there, but maybe folks already know. Anyway, they are listed on BPS for $9. Figured, I pass it along.
  17. I don't know much about these particular units, but I'd really look into what the maps are like and what the software can do for you.
  18. I agree! Hopefully it moves forward but that will depend on the $. Might be a good way to deal with excess electricity too instead of selling it below cost. http://www.youtube.com/embed/55Edq_Irstk
  19. Not too sure about that thing, but the Evinrude G2 looks pretty sweet.
  20. I don't know. There are a ton of these battery packs on the market now. Plenty cheaper than the Weego. You can get a 22000 mAh 12V battery pack for $50. Although, I didn't look into the details of what the differences are. For me, that would be something I would probably just order from Amazon. I was just thinking about ordering one to try on my fish finder.
  21. Beautiful fish. I really need to try river fishing.
  22. If I had a tub like that my family would probably be much larger. Looks good, I really like that floor. I'd probably move the towel rack and put a linen cabinet there.
