  1. Simcoe ice in the laker zone -- nice!!! Thanks for sharing
  2. Nice outing!!! I can't believe how dark those trout are....good job guys
  3. Yeah -- like that guy outside CodeRed's hut....literally! I have to say that I don't see a lot of garbage in the areas I fish the most...but then again, they are not very popular spots, so I get GCD's point...abrasive as the ol' coot may sound. There is definitely room on my sled for a garbage bag, so I'll bring one from now on, to clean up after the less thoughtful people.
  4. Interesting point about the otters...in hindsight, it's always better to have done something different I've only ever caught smallmouth through the ice; one in Temagami, one in Muskoka, and my lovely wife just pulled a nice one up on Scugog this past week.
  5. nicely done, wiser! Having only been to scugog once through the ice (this past thursday), pics like this are preventing me from writing it off.
  6. Congrats! He's definitely a keeper
  7. Yup -- if you go to an american ice-fishing board, you'll hear all kinds of guys talking about bass under the ice....and like the others have said, in Ontario, bass season is only open wwwaaayyy up north
  8. I like it...don't see it tangling as long as you move it over quickly once the fish is past the bottom of the ice. I wonder if I could use the scoop the same way though....as long as it's on the side of the hole once the fight starts. Not too shabby
  9. For braided line, I always wrap a bit of hockey tape around the spool so the line doesn't slip. Without it, you can make quite a mess, if you even get the line to start wrapping around the spool.
  10. Awesome report Wayne....and I like the new shelter camillj -- you've heard there's lots of ice on Rosseau? where? I'm going up tonight, but have heard it's not ready yet.
  11. Thanks for keeping us posted....I have yet to ice my first 'eye, so, I could be showing up on your doorstep as soon as the ice is good I'm looking for anywhere I can go to break this curse!
  12. Hmmm....I wonder how he's making out...? *turns toward huntsville and hollers* I hope you do okay! Bring back a report!!
  13. We were out from Spring blvd. on Thursday...was pretty slow all around...definitely heard of more action a little further up the lake...
  14. Just spoke to my (cottage) neighbour who lives up there...most of the smaller lakes are good to go...but you're going to need an up to the minute report from someone who's seen it firsthand for the big ones. Try calling some of the local baitshops...they'll tell ya
  15. How about some flies, or little bug type micro jigs? (Ratso, genz bugs, etc.) See Slayingm's post with the pics of mayfly nymphs....
  16. Can't wait to see a great big laker from one of your secret back lakes, Gavin...keep at it! Last year I was breaking a trail on foot...with tons of soft snow...with a very crappy homemade sled....it's all worth it when you ice some nice trout though
  17. Missed you on Scugog, Terry, but you didn't miss much...
  18. Okay that's it -- I'm heading out for some trout! Nicely done, Limey!
  19. Thank goodness it wasn't another muskie story LOL
  20. I've heard they're okay...got an update this morning from a guy I'm meeting up with out there.
  21. Welcome aboard, Dan How old is your little guy? Mine is almost 9....loves to fish as long as he can drive the boat
  22. My lovely wife's grandparents are celebrating their 60th anniversary tonight...so we'll be partying with the family...then rolling out bright and early tomorrow morning for a day trip to Scugog
  23. I thought you meant Lake Rosseau.... From all that I've heard, I'm guessing it's a no-go...sorry to say I won't be up there this year. Try calling Bait on the Lake @ (705) 765-1600 He will give you the inside scoop
  24. Wow...I've never seen the shots of all the bridges like that...thanks Holdfast (We need a smiley that salutes)
  25. Wow -- what a sweetie! Just another reason to be a Leaf's fan -- we're all good-lookin'
