  1. C'mon Wayne..I only read this thread to see what YOUR explanation was....I think I know the first half...but where does the field come into it? Of course, my name is John Brown, so, JohnnyB is abuot as selfexplanatory as it gets Ahh gee...never mind I got distracted while typing and missed about 10 posts!
  2. Sorry for your loss...remember the good times...
  3. I'm planning to go out on Thursday...the word on the street is that it's good to go...hopefully I'll have a report to give you some confidence out there
  4. If the weather forecast holds up, it's probably not too bad by Thursday (do'nt forget to renew your license!)...directions posted above...looks like you're good to go!
  5. Nicely done, Terry -- glad you made it back
  6. KARPATY DELI. It's a pretty popular polish deli that will give you a good selection...they've expanded a lot recently, so they shouldn't be too hard to find in the phonebook. Two locations I can think of are: Bovaird one block west of Hurontario, kitty-corner to Rona Hurontario just south of Dundas in the Price Chopper plaza. There's also Starsky's at the corner of Winston Churchill and Dundas, in the Classic Bowl plaza....pretty much any european deli will give you lots of stuff to sample, till you find the one you like
  7. You could always try Brandy Lake and 3-mile in Muskoka...they're RUMOURED to have walleye, and usually have a few huts out every year....or heck...if you're leaving REALLY early, just drive to Temagami...the walleye season is open there. Cassels Lake, Net Lake, and the big one herself...all easily accessible...you can even drive on Temagami from town....only a 5 hour drive...okay maybe 6 from St. Thomas.
  8. Hopefully some BOQ guys can give you an idea of the ice conditions there...in the same general area is Mississippi lLake..supposed to be good walleye fishing...people are already on it...but I've never fished it myself, so that's all I know.
  9. Wha?!? That's showing Cooke's Bay wide open? Is that for real?
  10. MMMmmmm...tasty! Another great report...I liked listenting to the tunes while driving out to your spot...oh wait...I wasn't actually there! I think it's proof-positive about the flasher capabilities on your Lowrance...makes me think twice about getting a flasher-only unit. About that split-shot....I wonder if they thought it was some sort of bug/crustacean? Wonder what would happen if you had a little ratso/finkie/genz bug tied on as a dropper? Just a thought....
  11. Wow---neat concept with the lever-action for lifting snow, but...$120? Looks great if all you ever get is nice dry powdery snow.
  12. Take the word "dare" out of your post before Cudz heads out there with his tinnie!
  13. Yes! I thought I saw him open the last time I went up and meant to post it...niiiiiice do you know if he is still doing the 24 hour service?
  14. Yup -- LakerJessy unwrapped a pair of cleats for Christmas this year....she can't wait to try 'em out. I got a few new lures which will hopefully help me keep pace with her and her fish catching ways....
  15. Hey tapout...so far the wife has her heart set on Simcoe...'cause she wants to catch a walleye If plans change, I'll PM you though...thanks for the offer!
  16. Great report -- I also thought the pics were great for a cell phone. Curious as well about the toll fee...? Good job out there!
  17. Well I'm stuck celebrating New Year's eve in the city this year...as opposed to being up north waiting to drill a hole first thing in the new year. And since I have to work on the 2nd, I figure that a day trip on the 1st will be about as good as it gets...my question is...where would you go if it were you? Simcoe, Scugog or Dunnville? Of course, if ice conditions are no good, I either won't go, or will just leave the party early New Year's morning and drive further north, but I'd prefer not to. So, good ol' OFC community, let me know what your choice would be...or give me some other suggestions...please
  18. Nicely done, Terry!
  19. Beauty...will let you know if I'm heading up there this winter Jessy and I are determined to go at least once....
  20. The sad truth is that we'll probably wait until the trout season is open...but if we start to see lots of whitefish reports...well...maybe we'll head up anyway. Are there many whities caught in your bay? What about the Lake Access road just before town....where the boat launch is? Isn't there another ice road there?
  21. I agree...hand auger is no problemo...fishing on 3 feet of ice makes it a bit daunting to be popping a LOT of holes...but with enough breaks and fish in between, the heart rate comes back down, and it's not a big deal
  22. I think I only ever saw them in Zellers....seem to be more of a gimmick than anything else....but for $7 you can satisfy your curiosity...
  23. Good point GCD...I'm just trying to strike the right balance between when I start catching them, and she gets cold enough to leave Truth be told, she has a better jacket...she just didn't think she'd need it. And I didn't think I'd miss two fish in five minutes!
  24. really?!?!? That is music to my ears!!!! Now if I can only align my schedule to take advantage of that! Will see what I can do...and this year I've got a more capable vehicle for getting around out there
