Neither BPS, Walmart, Cdn tire, Costco "make" their own batteries. They are made by a handful of different companies and stick on whatever labels for the retailer that buys them. The same battery that Costco sells for $10 may be sold at BPS for $50 dollars, it's all in the labelling and perception. Some brands are better than others by virtue of how they are constructed, amount and quality of lead and other materials inside. Don't get sucked in by the hype of spiral wound batteries such as Optima, when you check the actual numbers of battery capacity (usable amps) per dollar, they fall short by a country mile. For the asking price, you can buy two regular lead acid batteries (starting or DC).

Honestly, if it was was a long shaft and you're not in a hurry to cross the pond, fine, but you'd get about as much speed from a portable Sunbeam mixmaster with a short shaft. The prop is not sitting low enough in the water to get a clean bite, it's just thrashing water around behind the transom.

A 2002 model will likely have 2001, maybe 2002 tires, time for them to be turned inside out and made into redneck flower pots. Definitely get the bearings checked too. Running lights you can check yourself. If the fridge runs off propane, open up the outside hatch and really clean that out with a vacuum cleaner, especially around the propane pilot light, ditto for the heater if it's not a portable unit. Like Terry said, no real problem, but if the prop doesn't sit below the bottom of the Zodiac, you're not going to get a lot of forward motion, just thrashing water around at the back.

Taking the carb off and cleaning it is no magic, most of the Japanese engines run either Mikuni or Kehin(sp) carbs. Most likely there are 2 screws on the carb, one sets the idle speed, the other sets the idle fuel flow. The one that sets the idle speed with usually be located on top with a semi circular plate attached and the screw is just a stop point. The other is usually located on the side, open it(counterclockwise) about 1/8th of a turn. You will probably notice an immediate difference. I'm betting it's gummed up from leaving old gas in there, stabilizer or not.

You can get waterproof BNC or TNC connectors, the male/female connection seals with an O ring, same thing that's in the back of your pants.

That depends on the tires for one thing. If your bo/mo/trailer weighs a 1000, then /x2, each tire carries about 500lbs. If the tires rating is 1000, you have lots of safety space. Now comes the fun part. Radials can be used with less than the full recommended air pressure, bias ply should be run close to the recommended pressure to reduce heat caused by sidewall flex.

So in other words, don't blame synthetics for doing the job its designed for, blame the crappy seals in the older motors that can't keep the oil in.
