A good steady food supply with out a lot of effort to catch it. I don`t know how particular a muskie would be, top of the food chain, everything else is food. I do think they would rather chase 1- 3 pound walleye than a hundred Emerald shiners. Food supply and food size during the entire life cycle gives them an advantage. LOL look at people today less hunter - gatherers fatter people. More time eating less time tracking down food.

I have put them in all my fixtures except a remote control ceiling fan. The only problem I have had is some fail real quickly, won`t start, or start and go out and come back on a short period later. The customer service number on the bulbs sends out replacements for them, good service. They have a program on tv here called mythbusters, they did a show on light bulbs and the CFLS were more efficient. I also used to pick up and deliver to GE lighting here in Cleveland, they have various styles of bulbs hooked up to electric meters with switches, the CFLS again were more efficient. First I have heard about fire problems with them, I will check some US sites.

"Erie,NO" LOL Marc, I agree! There are places in it that should have them though, they remain a rarity.

Jed, just for me my first choice is a plastic worm, it can be fished on the top, weightless, as a swimming lure, or various ways on the bottom. Give only one lure to bass fish for the day, that might have to be the one, at least for L/M. Smallies a tube wins. But that why we are lure collectors, er I mean fishermen, lots of toys to try!

LOL coffee and the towel!

What do you do for drinking water on wilderness fishing trips?
OhioFisherman replied to Tomcat's topic in General Discussion
I refuse to believe you guys drink anything but beer! -
Who would want to? can you imagine the grief?

Plastic worm still catches fish, jig and pig still catches fish, if your talking bass and those aren`t on your list it means nothing. Best lure for me the last 15 years or so has to be the TUBE, LOL and like it was mentioned surface lures? Isn`t that what gets you hooked, the surface explosion of a bass trying to kill something! Lindy rig? a great rig, with a minnow? not for a tournament angler. Some good ones mentioned, Rapala`s still catch fish. Senkos, Rat-L -traps. Terminator? Not my first choice in spinnerbaits. LOL my list would be different, then I don`t get paid to make one?

50`s and 60 here for the next 7 days, it`s got to be headed your way!

Nice work guys! Busy hands are happy hands! LOL My experience with powder paint is it will flake off in much larger pieces unless cured. Messing with the lead is also something would rather not do in the home, like the other guys mentioned, I do it in the barn with the doors open. For most of my jigs I use Mustad 32746BLN a 90 degree hook black nickel, very sharp, a better quality than standard jig hooks. Price isn`t that much more than regular jig hooks.

Trap, my last time up there was 1988 or 89 I believe the laws were different then. I emailed the Ministry a couple years ago and got answer, they said the bait dealers lead the push to ban non-residents from trapping their own. LOL I like fishing for them with a hook better any way, I don`t use much small bait.

Question on getting my lures down deep...
OhioFisherman replied to ssauvain's topic in General Discussion
Never used any of those devices, if I want something to run deeper I take a slip or egg sinker and put it on the line like a carolina rig. Never really used anything heavier than 1 ounce maybe, and only for trolling. -
LOL I thought you were going to sing!

LOL my answer was to complicated. In canada I bought them from local bait stores or caught them myself from the body of water I was fishing. I did release them into the body of water I was fishing. I don`t fish for salmon, steelhead are a side effect most of the time. I have used live minnows for just about everything, but not often for almost 20 years.

If you know the history a bit think of the labor the containers save. Most of the loading and unloading of ships required a heck of a lot more people. Stuff is already loaded on a container just put it on a frame and it`s good to go.

Like Golfisher says a spinning reel is probably easier to learn on, most spin-cast reels have problems, a beginners or part-time fisherman`s reel, but some exceptions. A baitcaster maybe the most difficult to master, but the best choice for bigger fish. Casting accuracy is more a matter of practice, with any reel, but a baitcaster has a slight edge. If your fishing is going to be limited a spinning reel may be your best option as far as price and ease of use. 1 rod of both species? go with a medium heavy rod 6 to 7 foot long, a little much for most walleye a little light for bigger pike. You need a line that will be strong enough for both, not a lot of experiance with the super lines especially on spinning reels so some others may be better able to offer options.

The latest US study shows 96.3 percent of the old guys keep their hands on their tillers.

New Electric Trolling Motor Decision
OhioFisherman replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
All I have used is cable steer models, Minn-kota, Motor Guide. I use the electric much more than the gas motor so I don`t want bells and whistles that may fail, just a dependable basic model. -
One of our Bostons would come to the edge of the pool deck and wait for my wife to get near, she didn`t want to swim, she wanted my wife to carry her around in the water. Never tried to take them in the water, if they want in they know how.

Nice job Glen! Might be the last picture with you dressed for a while?

My grandfather(mom`s dad) died of colon cancer back in the early 60`s. They lived upstairs from us in a 2 story house in Cleveland. Things weren`t as good as they are now, we got to see him suffer every day. Grandma didn`t speak english well and my Mom and Aunt got to play nurse. Not a fun job, most or all of his colon was removed and he pooped thru a hole in his belly. Discovered late, back then I don`t know if they had anything they could have done anyway. I had the colonoscopey about two years ago, part of my diagnostics for MS, I was having trouble, they needed to be sure I didn`t have colon cancer so a good idea. Prep was the worst part, I ate mostly fruits and veggies and cereal for a couple days before. They had given me a gallon jug with some powder in it, fill with water and chill. I think I had to start drinking it like 12 hours before I was due at the hospital, I finished drinking it sitting on the can. It worked! Wife took me to the hospital, here they specify they won`t do it if you don`t have someone to drive you home, you maybe be groggy. We checked in, they wanted me to watch a short movie about it, No! I don`t want to know nothing!. I had to wait in a hospital bed for a short period, they put a IV in my arm, then wheeled me in. Doc asked me some questions, I told him I didn`t have any problems before I got sick, but may have MS. They put a needle in the IV told me to count to 10, LOL I got to 1. I woke up in recovery. Piece of cake, probably no one is eager, there is a purpose, it can save your life, or more grief.
