  1. http://www.parrysound.com/fun/explore/148/ species of fish listed seems a bit limited.
  2. Shawanaga Lake? is that part of the river that dumps into the Georgian Bay? I have had pretty good luck in the river off of the Georgian, but I don`t think the fish can get upstream.
  3. No problems with me, different people are into different things, just not something I would do. If I want to fish I got rods and reels. LOL
  4. http://www.blackhawkcustomoutfitter.net/kalins5.html
  5. Right off hand I don`t remember seeing any bluegill tubes, I have seen grubs in color termed bluegill( Kalins?). Don`t know if they would help you, or how close you are trying to match a bluegill`s color. Seems to me the grubs were available up to 5 inch. I use Junebug a lot, purple with green glitter. Better for L/M than S/M on tribs of Erie and inland lakes, watermelon blue glitter a better choice for smallies on most lakes I have fished. Any color can have it`s days though.
  6. Tradition probably has something to do with the design, baitcasters were designed right hand retrieve and prior to the 70`s you saw very few that offered a left hand retrieve version. The only ones I remember were the Abu 5001c`s. The flipping and pitching craze that hit in the early years of professional bass fishing might have caused this to carry over, your using a stout rod, heavy line, and trying to pull the fish away from cover, you want your strong arm doing it, for most people it is their right arm, but they were used to right hand retrieve reels and there weren`t many options. Like Lew says, that has changed over the years, a lot of lefties out there now, most companies offer some models in a lefty. Spinning reels went the other way, most seemed to be designed for left hand retrieve and righties were added later. They are a newer style of reel though. It`s all a matter of comfort, you will use it more if your comfortable with it.
  7. Did they eat it? Doesn`t look like they were set up for C&R.
  8. Sorry to hear about your Granddad Brian, congrats on 25!
  9. Great pictures! The snow and ice makes it easier to see the wabbit tracks. Guess there are rednecks that far north, no pickup to stand in so the boat had to do? LOL
  10. Nice looking ride! A 115 should push that along well, and you can`t beat a wide boat!
  11. Glad to hear your OK. It is wierd how those allergies work, one of my sister in laws has no problems with dogs, but get her neat a cat and she might need the emergency room. One of my buddies had to get rid of his dog, his grandson was allergic to it, but not to cats. I might be allergic to rednecks, never traveled south much, when I did I got a hot sticky feeling.
  12. All the electronics on my boat run off the starting motor battery, two sonars, livewell pump, running light. My electric trolling motor has a separate battery. Never had a problem with the staring motor battery running down. I have fished all nite using the running lights and running the sonar.
  13. Dude broke the regs, and it appears knowingly. Not much of an excuse for that!
  14. Aren`t they supposed to be anodized? maybe they missed them?
  15. LOL Phil, I think I have fished around that dock! The water shots look like all of Erie, except calmer that normal. Nice job! You look better holding fesh!
  16. Always let bass go! LOL in season or out, except for a weigh in!
  17. A former friend of my dads got busted with 27 northern pike with another guy up there. Dude had been going up north a long time and knew the rules. The went to the same area we did, but never stayed at the same resort. Former friend, dad viewed them just like thieves, they were stealing. It`s one thing to make a mistake, but when you know and can`t be trusted?
  18. Like they are saying keep it supported by the bunks. if you don`t you are putting a lot of stress on the transom with the weight not being properly supported. Also check your trailer cross members for time to time when you have launched the boat, especially with bigger motors. I have seen the welds holding the cross members crack from the side rails, they take a beating going down the road. The ones I have seen crack have been to the rear of the trailer.
  19. Something like 25 years in a row of trips to the GB, sometimes twice a year, I don`t think I kept 10 fish total. I was there to fish, not eat fish, or bring them home, just more to it for me than a fish count. I have fished bass tournies with a 3 fish limit, it makes it tougher, the game changes, you need to factor size in more to your tactics and hope it works. No problems with a 3 fish limit in a tournie for me. I don`t need to keep any when it`s over, and I would fish for them regardless. Pike are a change of pace, same with ski`s, for me part of the draw of Ontario. No interest in the little guys, no interest in keeping or eating any of them. They both have to be 40 inches for me to consider it a good fish, not big, just good. Can`t get big ones if everyone keeps little ones. Walleye and everything else? fun to catch if they are big enough, a steelhead or walleye once a year keeps momma and the kids happy, or at least of my back. I limited myself, I like to see fish for tomorrow.
  20. Like Blake I think the average angler may be better informed and has access to better equipment. The television programs and the web make information easier to get. I don`t think the numbers have changed that much though, there are fishermen, and people that fish, some don`t put in the effort.
  21. Great pictures Lew, nothing like the sun coming up, better when your on the water!
  22. Happy birthday Brian, go catch a fish!
  23. Eddy my house is all electric with an air tight wood burner also, mine has electric baseboard heat, good points and bad to it. You can turn off or way down the heat in the rooms you don`t use often. My house is just under 2000 square feet, we don`t have a gas line so the choice was heating oil, propane or electric in this area. 1. clean your chimney every year, you can get the tools to do it for about the price of a chimney sweep doing it once, you need to know the size of the chimney opening to get the right brush, and the height of it to get enough sections of poles to do it properly. It takes maybe 15 or 20 minutes, and another 15 or 20 to take the pipes apart inside and clean and check them. My roof isn`t angled badly or real high though. 2. Firewood, face cord seems to be what we call a rick here, and the going price is also around 60 bucks here for it.. Got any Amish up there? I get my firewood from Amish sawmills in my area, I fill my utility trailer 12x6 1/2 x 2 = 156 cubic feet, more than a full cord(128 cubic feet) for 55 to 60 bucks and it`s heaping. Slab wood, short cut, but a lot of heavy pieces. 3. yellow jackets like to build nests in my chimney, the clean out is outside, a small metal door. They get in around the edges, mine is chimney tile not metal, don`t know if they would do that on a metal one. Raid indoor flea fogger kills them, I wait until it is almost dark and drop a couple down the chimney, in the morning they are all dead. 4. It is breezey here most of the time, I keep my wood covered but where the wind can help dry out the new stuff. I got 7 loads last year, some was old and seasoned some was green for next year. Burning green wood will clog the chimney quicker. Oak is probably the best to burn, maple, hickory, cherry, black walnut, and even ash burn well also. Ash won`t last as long, it isn`t as dense. 5. Mine runs pretty much full time during the cold months, I have had it (bought it new in 1989 and installed it while the house was being built) very few problems. Some minor part replacements an I didn`t clean the chimney the first two years. LOL I learned! Had to get a chimney sweep in the dead of winter on a snow covered roof.
  24. Oh no! LOL not what I would like outside my door or in my county! Cats are cool! in a zoo! Years ago a buddy and me didn`t have anything to do so we got a case of beer, took our b-b guns and drove to a deserted industrial section of the Cleveland shoreline. We had a few beers, shot the heck out of some beer cans, I turned around and sitting on the broken concrete rubble was an Ocelot watching us. Not real big as big cats go, but certainly something you wouldn`t expect to see roaming around Cleveland. LOL my buddy want to use it for a target, I didn`t want to do anything to tick it off, we decided the inside of the car was a better place to be. Half drunks and pink elephants? a couple weeks later there was a story in the paper someone caught it.
  25. Wow, woke up to it on the news. Our hearts go out to the families, is there any where are kids our safe?
