  1. Anyone have any advice, tactics, hot spots, GPS coordinates they would be willing to share with me. We will be going up and fishing July 19-25. We normally fly-in to Birch with Peter, but my dad and I are taking my 14 year old son on his first Northern Adventure so we are staying in Peter's cabins and fishing Lac Seul.
  2. :thumbsup_anim: :clapping: I am finally all packed for my 7 day fly-in to Birch Lake. We will be flying out early Saturday morning and starting the 14 hour drive early Friday morning to Ear Falls. This board has been so helpful on all sorts of topics. I am like a little kid at Christmas....my wife doesn't seem to get it! She just says go and stay until you get a belly full!!! Well hope to post a report and some pictures on my return!!!!! Wish me luck...and yes I have the gore tex packed.....hahahaha
  3. I know it...he told us 8:00 which means be there by 6:30 get weighed and we will have air under the wings by 7:50ish....I assume you mean we will have no problem catching walleyes?????
  4. I know Canadian weather is a crap shoot at best. We are going to Birch Lake July 14-20, basically 75 air miles northwest of Ear Falls. 2 years ago we flew about 100 miles northwest of Ear Falls and it was a week later and we froze all week. Should I expect 80's during the day and 50's at night...I know to bring long johns and hooded sweatshirts.....advice welcome.
  5. 25 days till my fly-in to Birch Lake with KayAir....so pumped I feel like a little kid at Christmas. My wife is sick of hearing about it....I better be quiet or there could be repurcussions.....
  6. AMEN Tony...sounds like a plan....maybe splurge and get some spicey V-8 and have a spicey red beer!!
  7. I use crystal fireline or power pro on my baitcasters and spinning rods...do I really need fluor leaders???? I have done fly-ins before and usually don't use leaders???? Opinions accepted guys....tanin colored lake where we are going...and fishing is fantastic...walleye mainly occassional northern
  8. Do share your great wisdom solopaddler you are the master :worthy:and yes it is that birch lake.
  9. Tennessee Guy...did you ever fly in to Birch??? We are going there in early July...heard it is very good fishing...would love any help! I agree about Peter...and that is exactly how my dad is and that is why we like him so much!!!
  10. Jason The outfitter is KayAir...Peter and Karen Kay. I have personally been to Saddle Lake outpost and they also have a very short portage walk, about 3 minutes, to a river/lake system, over there are more boats, motors, and gas and the walleye fishing is unreal!!!! We are going this year to Birch Lake which according to references and Peter is actually bigger walleye then Saddle Lake and just as fast of action. The bonus is a larger lake and the opportunity to catch Lake Trout too...everything is very well done. Their website is www.kayair.com tell them Bob Sauvain and his son Steve sent you!!!!! It really is a first class operation.
  11. First, I have been on 4 fly ins. My dad has been in on so many I don't know if I could count them. He is very particular and expects, great boats, motors, and everything just perfect! We have flown out of Ear Falls the last 2 trips with the same outfitter and it has been absolutley fantastic!!! We are going again this July to another of his outpost...I would be glad to tell you who if you desire. Fishing has been fantastic, great cabin, fish cleaning houses, new boats and motors, checks on us every 3 days, FIRST CLASS. My dad actually hooked up with this outfitter at a boat and travel show in Omaha, NE....sorry solopaddler. I agree with the references end of the suggestions, my dad called 3 others that had went with this outfitter and they were all very helpful, from fishing help, to what to bring, to what was actually in the cabin for cooking. Fly in's are just great...I could never give back the time my dad and I have had alone in the bush of Canada...just really special times. Also not just time with DAD, but the guys who go with us too...no phones....no honey do list...no kids....just me fishing....no shaving...fart when I want...sorry ladies...just a great experience! Always butterflies when they drop you off and you are all alone!!!!! Our outfitter has hot water, indoor showers, frig and freezers, solar power, it is first class, and by the way in six days of fishing last time we averaged over a hundred walleye a day per person...largest being 28 inches...lots of just great catching...not fishing...didn't need live bait...just troll shad raps and stuff.
  12. Great post...and times with Dad are the greatest. My Dad and I will be taking our 2nd fly-in trip in July and those times are very near and dear to my heart....times that will never be forgotten! I need a kleenex.....
  13. I want to move my battery up front in the boat...how do I get the wires that long on my Minn Kota Endura 55lb. thrust transom motor? I would like to run them along the sides and strap them in nicely so they don't get in the way. Thanks for any and all help!
  14. Ok guys, I saw on In-fisherman that they were using 12 lb. fluorocarbon leader material for walleyes, and 20 lb. fluoroccarbon leader material for pike rigs....is that not big enough to prevent bite offs????
