LOL good thing you are waiting till after Easter mike, cold and a chance of snow here Wednesday thru Sunday. Actually not compensating, not fishing much, LOL just thinking about it! Used to wade the upper parts of the Chagrin as a kid fishing for smallies and catching bait. I don`t think the trout make it up that far though, it`s been a lot of years, maybe?

I have always used big creek chubs or shiners for them. My wife isn`t much of a caster, on trips to the georgian bay a big chub gave her a chance to catch a good fish whether it was a pike, walleye, ski, or bass, she got about a 15# cat one year, the next one around 25#, also around a 40 inch gar that lassoed itself with the line trying to get the chub. The blood baits, chicken parts and such might limit the species you can catch.

Whats your favourite kind of braid?

Tried spiderwire years ago and didn`t like it, bought some power pro a couple of years ago but haven`t really had a chance to use it much. -
What do you do with your caught carp?
OhioFisherman replied to wuchikubo's topic in General Discussion
They are incidental catches for me, my biggest has been around 35 pounds, on 8# test line early in April on a tube fishing for smallies. I have mellowed a bit over the years, we used to remove carp and sheephead from the line with a fish billyclub. Some people like to catch them and or eat them so I release them now, but I don`t like them. -
I put mine in from the outside, I have it attached to a screw on the transom with a piece of steel leaders so it doesn`t get missplaced and I can see it hanging when I take the straps off. I pull it to allow any water to drain while I am tying the boat down. My livewell has a separate drain, I pull the plug on that when the fish come out. I also have a bilge pump, water is only a problem for me if I am fishing in the rain, leave the boat in the water on vacations, or catch some waves wrong. I carry a spare plug for the boat and livewell.

Mike, Whopper is I am guessing 150-200 miles from Lake Erie, I am disabled and walking on dry level ground is a bit of a challenge, in a river I would be swimming. They are pretty fish, but my love was bass fishing, hard to beat Erie smallies. Chagrin, Rocky, and Vermillion rivers East and West of Cleveland also get pretty good runs of steelies, they are more in my area, and I know guys that fish for them. My walking and wading days are pretty much over. They do stack up at the river mouths in the fall, millions or billions of emerald shiners gather around the breakwalls and the steelies are feeding on them and whatever else is near by. No doubt that they are fun to catch, and a mixed bag is possible with smallies, and walleye. A boat gives you more opportunities.

LOL you came to Ohio? Slumming? Never fished the far eastern tribs of Erie myself, there is some steelhead action in the area around Cleveland but more crowds too. I have heard some of the tribs in PA. can be good too. Did you check out Presque Isle State park in PA by Erie? Great bass waters! The steelhead are incidental catches for me while bass fishing in the fall along the breakwalls at the mouths of tribs here, they are a lot fatter in the fall! Nice report!

I have Nationwide under my homeowners, I think they will only cover if it is 50 hp or less. Bigger HP needs a separate policy.

LOL TJ, you never know how that is going to go. My wife had a company put decorations like pink flamingo`s in her sisters yard for her 40th birthday, a normally rational girl. She got twisted, wierd, it`s a number.

Happy birthday Monique, LOL 40 still a kid! Don`t whine, a picture of you with a gun and you still let him get close? You were armed! LOL great pictures! Must have been the disco days?

I moved some 150 watt equiv bulbs from the garage to the barn today, they had been in the garage for about a year, and during the spring and warmer months we don`t close the garage door until everyone is in for the night. Darn things sounded like a salt shaker, vents in the plastic base were to big to keep out a lot of bugs, I don`t know what effect it has on the bulbs retaining heat(shortening life), or a possibility of a fire hazard. I blew them out with the air compressor.

Barometric Pressure - Fact Or Fiction?
OhioFisherman replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
A lot of the fishing I did the last 30 years was schedualed events or vacations, had to take what I got. Tournies weren`t called off or delayed unless safety was an issue, vacations weren`t re-schedualed because the weather wasn`t going to be perfect. Only fished in two small tournies that no one caught a legal fish, some big ones had very poor results that were probably weather related, if you don`t go? you don`t learn to adapt? I like it to be about 75, sunny or a little overcast, gentle breeze, a rich attractive woman in a bikini driving the boat and serving me my coffee. I don`t get what I want though. -
simce poacher caught convicted and fined

You grow reefer in a house here they can take the house, it`s a criminal tool. There has to be some way to get the message across, stupidity isn`t always curable. -
Pretty sure Force was Chrysler too. A friend had one I think it was a 50hp also, it has been more than 10 years ago though. He had no problems with it until he bought mixed gas at a marina that turned out not to be mixed. He had it for quite a while with no problems. They aren`t common down here though, no idea about getting parts.

Dang Joe your over 50? I thought Art was the old guy? 1. usually you can tell how bad a movie is by the leading ladies bra size, some movies have nothing else to offer. 5. yep, for the most part, birthdays really became meaningless once I could by beer legally. 12. waiter/janitor? some of the best people on earth! 16. LOL I dance everytime I get up! and don`t need beer to do it!

As far as I know Ohio doesn`t allow commercial fishing for walleye, they bought the licenses back in the 70`s? Just my point of view is there is enough pressure on the Great Lakes with sport fishermen. Everyone complains about poachers? when those guys do it they excede by thousands of pounds.

Roughly 2 4600`s for the price of a Citica 3 for the price of a Curado, they have been around a long time, not fancy but dependable. 4600 is fine for bass, walleye, the occasion bigger pike, for serious big pike or ski fishing you want a bigger reel.

Dad and his buddies used to do that here, even started us out that way, made little or no sense to us kids. Every weekend in April they brought home bucket loads, gave them to neighbors, buried ones they didn`t clean and freeze. Just to impress?

"For me it's really simple: I find it extemely arrogant of mankind to think they could put a dent into a planet that has been around for millions of years and been through far more pressure from solar extremes than we could imagine." ??? Arrogant? isn`t denying the effect mankind has had on this planet a bit arrogant? The waters in Europe were polluted long before we came to North America, beer and wine were safer to drink, did we learn? It took a few hundred years. It took us a couple of centuries to cut down half or more of the forests here? No impact? We breed even when conditions aren`t really suitable for it, we use wars to thin the herd. 50 years or so to wipe out millions of Buffalo? Passenger pigeon? Lake Erie was a cess pool? The resources of the planet are vanishing, we have to look in new and difficult areas to extract them. Better to plan ahead? or wait until they are gone? More people more pressure on the planet, we can adapt, dumb animals die off. There was and still is an attempt by business to shift the burden of correct pollution control on the citizens, the e-check here in Ohio, convienently the county that the state capitol is in wasn`t included in the required e-checks

30x105? find a pink one, your wife can cut it while you fish? It`s good excersize for the calves?

Johnson silver minnow with a pork trailer, like mentioned large spinners, mepps have worked for me, caught a lot on 7 inch f18 rapalas perch, silver, rattle traps like mentioned chrome with a black back for me, any bass bait will work, hooked them on plastic worms and jig and pigs. safety pin style spinner baits. Zara spooks, hula poppers, flatfish. List is long, just have to see what they prefer on a given day.

I have two Hummingbirds on mine, one on the console one on the bow mount electric. Two different models of birds, no interference. Having both is the way to go, bow mount lets you know what you are getting into quicker if you are using it. Lot of time the back of the boat is in deep water, bow is in shallow. It can make a difference, caught L/M casting from the bow to shore, and smallies up the drop to shallow water, gives you a better idea of what is going on with the depth.
