  1. Have a great time everyone and looking forward to reading the reports of your day.
  2. I don't think anyones THAT good johnny Here's your touque Terry and it's still one of my favorite pics of Ole Marv
  3. Maureen Shelleau posts on this board as Lake Ranger, and along with Phil Harrison, does the fishing cartoons for Off the Dock Toons that we often see here. Besides the cartoons she is also extremely talented at drawing animals, especially horses, but she does an incredible job on dog portraits also. I talked to Maureen awhile back about doing a portrait of my little buddy Marvin. I sent her a favorite photograph of him and she took it from there. I picked it up a couple days ago and thought some of you dog lovers may be interested in seeing it. The picture is 20" X 25" and is in a portrait shop in Lakefield right now having a custom frame made for it. It'll then hang in the living room. It looks even better in person than this photograph but you'll get a pretty good idea of the talent involved in doing this.
  4. Always enjoy your fishing tales with your daughter Mike. She's gonna be giving musky fishing lessons one of these days
  5. And seeing as today is gonna be even hotter than yesterday, I'm not going fish'n today either
  6. That's not necessarily a bad thing Dave. I had to ship a Humminbird to North Bay a few years back and it was maybe the best customer service I've ever had. I sent it up with Purolator from Toronto and had it back at my house in 48 hours, repaired and NO CHARGE. They even payed to ship it back even though it was well outta warranty. They'll fix you up and have you back on the water on no time. Great folks to deal with.
  7. Well, seeing as I'm retired, living in the Heart of the Kawarthas, infact Clear Lake is 200' away, and many other lakes within a very short drive, I can and do fish any time I want. Therefore, I have no need to be on the water on a day like today, frying my feeble little brain when I don't need to be
  8. It's downright pitiful that we have to even worry about our stuff like this just to keep some punk from taking things that we work so hard to pay for. I was just talking to my wife about this recently, telling her how I've got my receiver locked to the truck, then I lock the trailer onto the receiver, plus I've got the spare wheel chained & padlocked to the trailer, all 4 trailer wheels have McGuard locks and so does my stainless prop. Won't stop a thief but may at least slow him down a bit. Maybe if our poor excuse for a justice system would actually start punishing these creeps we wouldn't have to worry so much.
  9. I headed over to Lower Buck this morning to see if I could scare up a musky or 2 but after a couple hours in that blazing sun I called it a day and headed back here where it's far more humane. Must be getting soft in my old age
  10. I'm gonna print this post and stick it on the fridge to read anytime I think I'm having a bad day. Guaranteed to make me feel MUCH better
  11. Happy B-Day to ya Roy !!
  12. A couple very impressive pike you got there Chris !!
  13. Small world for sure Bob. We used to camp near an old hermit that lived beside the lake in a beat up blue school bus. He was a good ole dude though and used to take me & my brother out fishing for catfish...ring any bells ?? Funny thing though cause I now live only a few miles from Kashabog yet haven't been back in decades.
  14. Thanks Dan, I'll watch for his reply.
  15. Great thing your doing here Ryan I'd like to donate $100 towards the cure but my old eyes can't find the address to send it to although I'm sure it's in this post somewhere.
  16. I spose roughing it is a thing of the past ??
  17. As a kid in the 50's we used to camp at Kashabog all the time Joe. Forgot I had this picture but that's me standing on the rock with my dad, and my bro on the raft in 1960. We probably started camping there around 1956 and I woulda been 14 at the time of this picture but I still have many great memories of the lake and hopefully your little guys will make some alot of great memories too. I remember there used to be an unlimited supply of smallies but no idea about today.
  18. Yup, a low speed reel for sure Roy but the big spool brings in line very fast and the power handle give you the torque. Lotsa guys don't like casting with it because of the large size, but I can toss baits all day with it without any problems. Just takes a bit of getting used to.
  19. For big musky baits that have alot of drag I use a 7000 series Abu. It's got a huge spool plus a power handle and even baits with double 10 or 12 blades come in effortlessly. Also excellent for taking up slack in a hurry with jerkbaits or burning other baits very fast.
  20. Hard to believe it missed you Jer, I'm probably only about 15 miles east of you and it looked huge.
  21. Sounds like it's gonna be a great trip Terry !!
  22. A very welcome thunderstorm with LOTS of rain and hail rolled thru the Kawarthas last evening and dropped the temperature waaaay down. At one point is was raining so hard I couldn't see across the lake. It rained all evening and just made everything much more comfortable. I shut down the AC for the night and opened all the windows & patio doors. AC is good when needed, but NOTHING beats nice cool, fresh air blowing thru the house Here's a couple chunks of ice that were dropping on us.
  23. There ya go Wonderful news Wayne !!
  24. Lousy news Old Man, hope you get things fixed up without too much hassle from the insurance company. Me losing a nice maple tree to a windstorm a few weeks back doesn't seem quite so important anymore after seeing what your going through.
  25. Gotta love a lake that holds both species
