I use an MH St. Croix Legend Tournament for my #1 rod and have put some big non Kawartha fish in the boat with it, but it's all a personal choice.
Heavy is also a good rod.
Edit to add ++++
I missed the part where it was gonna be used for trolling also, guess I should learn to read the whole post first.
Sorry bout that, carry on boys
Grumpy, I replied because you said everyone on this board has killed a fish, I said everyone on this board HASN'T killed and undersized fish.
BIG difference
Lotsa good stuff there Mike.
I spent many many May 24 weekends fishing for Quinte pickerel and we'd never even head out until dusk and the fishing would often be great for several hours.
Same as muskies although I no longer do it, but night time fishing for them is a blast and something I did for years. Hit the water as the sun touches the tree tops and we'd nearly always boat a few fish in the next couple hours.
Night time is an awesome time to be on the water.
Burliegh Island Lodge may have what your interested in.
Their at the west end of Stoney and have plenty of docking and a good ramp. There's a motel unit plus a few cabins and the whole place is pretty darned nice.
I live just down the road from there and although we have dinner there on a regular basis I've never rented their cabins so can't honestly give an opinion on them.
Might be worth looking into.

Never wore a jacket until a few years back when I was alone in my boat on Nipissing in very rough water. I looked around and there wasn't a boat or cabin in sight and I figured if I got tossed overboard I could be in some serious doo doo. I put one on and now always wear an auto inflating Mustang when I'm alone in the boat and sometimes when I've got company too.
I also clip on the kill switch lanyard when I'm running fast and that's something else I never used to do.
We really do get wiser as we get older.
They bring some pretty good luck too
Matt, if your heading as far north as Temagami, there used to be a bait shop on the east side of #11 at Angus Lake 10 or 15 miles south of town.
Haven't been there for around 14 years or so but I know he used to sell minnows but now I can't even recall the name of the place.
Not much help but someone else here may know who I'm talking about.
Johnny, it's funny that the name Danny Columby came up here.
I was sitting at the picnic table at another West Arm lodge last month and a fella came up to me and asked if I was Lew. Turns out it was Danny and he was guiding some folks in the next cabin to me and recognized me from some pictures on this site.....small world LOL
Anyways, we yakked about muskies for 30 minutes and then he had to take off but he seemed like a really nice guy and if you go out with him I'm pretty sure you'll really enjoy your day with him.
I wear the Mustang MD 3183 and am happy with it, although I've never actually had to use it. Very light & comfortable and got it at Le Barons.

WOW
Some dude kills an undersized fish and somehow the post turns into a discussion about Genocide, Africa, ISIS, Non Believers, the beheading of Americans, sexual orientation and race/religion
Crazy how this place works sometimes
