  1. I purchased a pair of Group 27 series Kirklands from Costco in Peterboro 2 months back for $90 each minus $10 each for my old ones and figured that was a decent price....maybe I was wrong LOL
  2. We used to be called firemen till that became politically un-correct. If ya know what I mean Dax
  3. I don't know Mattaw but Rob (Speedtroll) and I have been friends for years and if he sold you something you'll know it's good. I've sold alot of stuff thru the OFC classifieds and every deal with our members has been a pleasure and I've made some great friends and fishing partners here.
  4. I've been fishing the Kawarthas for close to 60 years and can HONESTLY say, I've been stopped by a Game Warden exactly ONE time....and I think that's pretty sad.
  5. Very nice Doug, you don't miss too often.
  6. Atta boy Dave, huge fish !!
  7. My wife Diane has been known to her friends as Lady Di for many many years but she never got in as much trouble as that boat
  8. Couple years back I was fishing the same area, infact Wayne was with me, and we got stopped by the same boat but a different officer. He checked everything in my boat and I was fine until he asked about PFD's and I opened a floor locker and showed him they were there. He said they were sposed to be within easy reach and if we weren't going to wear them would we at least drape them over the back of the seats. He could have easily given me a big ticket because the jackets weren't accessible, but instead he explained what he wanted and let it go at that. And to me, THAT'S the way to handle minor infractions.
  9. Pike are insane and will hit just about anything you put in front of them and they don't care how big or small it is. This little fool tried to inhale a musky bait that was darned near as big as he was. There's hardly a day goes by on the West Arm that I don't get 1/2 a dozen dink pike on big musky baits And if you can figure out the location of that flat rock in the distance behind me, there's often a big musky or 2 just out in front of it...the rest is up to you
  10. Not sure exactly which cottage your staying at John but I go thru that channel all the time and would certainly know the place if there was a picture. Lakair Lodge is now out of business...sadly. Memquisit Lodge is about 3 miles east of there on the north shore or you can go 2 miles up #64 and you'll see their road on your right and just go down there 2 1/2 miles.
  11. Agree with you 100% Fred and am glad your here to verify my story. As for the over-loaded boat, I saw them leave the dock too and thought the same as you, that was very dangerous and the guy in charge put everyone else at risk. It was either 6 or 7 people in that 14' tinny including a couple small children with nobody wearing a life jacket, a large Golden Retriever and all their camping gear and there was only about 6" of freeboard when they went out. That's the boat the police should be looking for rather than harassing tourists who are doing their best to obey the laws.
  12. Heard on the news that Toronto City council has voted...or will in the near future...to ban the use of all E-Cigs on all City property....for whatever that's worth. Truer words were never spoken.
  13. Huge pike Luc and some real decent bass to go along with her.
  14. Let us know how your trip goes johnl, you'll be fishing in one of my favorite places in this entire province.
  15. You've got that right John, do you remember 3 years ago when I parked my boat right on top of a rock, in the EXACT spot the GPS said was 8' deep and no rocks anywhere in the area. Sometimes your GPS is just a fancy hood ornament.
  16. I saw the equipment and no offence taken.
  17. If your unfamiliar with those waters and your fishing at night without your friend, be very careful as some areas have lots of hidden surprises just below the waters surface that can put a real serious damper on your fun.
  18. I know what really took place and what I originally posted is true.
  19. Great way to spend a few hours Bernie and as Roy says, it's always fun to see the neighborhood from a different angle.
  20. Your absolutely correct Roy, my mistake, perhaps it's time to upgrade my reading skills
  21. Found this on Google Cliff. Interesting to read that auto inflators are not legal for sailboats. https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CC8QFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.safeboater.com%2Flearn-the-rules%2Finflatables.aspx&ei=0lz8U_qJJMSBygTou4AQ&usg=AFQjCNGEnoIeuMEyLdsQSejdKxJt909BEA
  22. I thought any inflatable had to be worn to be legal Cliff but I may very well be wrong. I have an automatic one and always wear it anyways if I'm alone in the boat.
  23. Thanks for your replies folks and am happy to hear most are in agreement with me that both these incidents could have been handled in a much better fashion. I've always been 100% pro cop and have been stopped many times on the water and have never had a bad experience with any of them, but a couple guys like the ones in my post can sure make the good ones look bad and paint them all with the same brush.
  24. Hi guys, I was up at a Nippissing lodge the last 2 weeks and a couple incidents with some other guests and the OPP marine unit had me wondering if they could have been handled differently. 1st was a man and his mother out for a boat ride. They had all the required safety gear and both were wearing life jackets and had another 2 spare jackets in the boat. The OPP stopped them for the usual check and everything in the boat was OK except the life jacket the man was wearing had a tear in the back. The cop told him that was illegal and gave him a ticket for $240. The jacket the mother was wearing was OK as were the 2 spares but the cop didn't care and told him he could fight it in Sudbury court if he wanted. 2nd incident involved another family and the same cop a couple days later. A family of 5 from Pittsburg was out for a boat ride and all were wearing life jackets when they were stopped. Again everything in the boat was good except for the life jacket one child was wearing. It was rated for 50-90 pounds and the cop said the child looked lighter than 50 and gave them a $240 ticket and again said they could travel back to Canada to fight it. The child had a medical check-up the previous week and weighted 48 pounds but they didn't tell the cop as they just wanted to get away from him. In my opinion, $240 is alot of money considering everybody was wearing life jackets in both boats and everything else was perfect and I think a warning would have been sufficient in both cases and just tell them to both correct the problem before coming out in the boat again. Am I right or wrong with my thinking ??
  25. Thanks Joey, that's the one, that was a crazy night LOL And John, there's a steak & blue waiting for you & Barb, lemme know when
