  1. The hobby WAS cheaper back in the day Paul, but we were only making $50 a week back then and thought that was pretty darned good money
  2. Wonderful trip for you and your dad Mike & like others have said, congratulations on your health report.
  3. Grumpy, I replied because you said everyone on this board has killed a fish, I said everyone on this board HASN'T killed and undersized fish. BIG difference
  4. WRONG...he intentionally killed an UNDERSIZED fish, which I doubt everyone on this board has done.
  5. Lotsa good stuff there Mike. I spent many many May 24 weekends fishing for Quinte pickerel and we'd never even head out until dusk and the fishing would often be great for several hours. Same as muskies although I no longer do it, but night time fishing for them is a blast and something I did for years. Hit the water as the sun touches the tree tops and we'd nearly always boat a few fish in the next couple hours. Night time is an awesome time to be on the water.
  6. Burliegh Island Lodge may have what your interested in. Their at the west end of Stoney and have plenty of docking and a good ramp. There's a motel unit plus a few cabins and the whole place is pretty darned nice. I live just down the road from there and although we have dinner there on a regular basis I've never rented their cabins so can't honestly give an opinion on them. Might be worth looking into. https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&sqi=2&ved=0CB0QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.burleighislandgrill.com%2Fburleigh-island-lodge.html&ei=2NYQVMDPLsSoyATmloGYBg&usg=AFQjCNF3WbSG0wnHEd39qAJ3f96acuz7Lg
  7. You've certainly got those yellow fish dialed in Doug, great day for you as usual.
  8. Never wore a jacket until a few years back when I was alone in my boat on Nipissing in very rough water. I looked around and there wasn't a boat or cabin in sight and I figured if I got tossed overboard I could be in some serious doo doo. I put one on and now always wear an auto inflating Mustang when I'm alone in the boat and sometimes when I've got company too. I also clip on the kill switch lanyard when I'm running fast and that's something else I never used to do. We really do get wiser as we get older. They bring some pretty good luck too
  9. Losing your Dad is a tough one Matt and condolences from my family to yours. He sounds like he lived a pretty wonderful life.
  10. Thanks Joeytier, I couldn't think of the name.
  11. Matt, if your heading as far north as Temagami, there used to be a bait shop on the east side of #11 at Angus Lake 10 or 15 miles south of town. Haven't been there for around 14 years or so but I know he used to sell minnows but now I can't even recall the name of the place. Not much help but someone else here may know who I'm talking about.
  12. Actually, Jim Saric is "THE Musky Hunter", but that's splitting hairs
  13. Johnny, it's funny that the name Danny Columby came up here. I was sitting at the picnic table at another West Arm lodge last month and a fella came up to me and asked if I was Lew. Turns out it was Danny and he was guiding some folks in the next cabin to me and recognized me from some pictures on this site.....small world LOL Anyways, we yakked about muskies for 30 minutes and then he had to take off but he seemed like a really nice guy and if you go out with him I'm pretty sure you'll really enjoy your day with him.
  14. If your referring to me Johnny, I was just amazed at how far the post got off track, nothing personal towards you.
  15. I wear the Mustang MD 3183 and am happy with it, although I've never actually had to use it. Very light & comfortable and got it at Le Barons. https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CEAQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mustangsurvival.com%2Frecreational%2Fmd3183&ei=ufgOVLSJJNSIsQS5xIGADQ&usg=AFQjCNFVSRi92CoV9RrhxspbL17tNyEaSg
  16. WOW Some dude kills an undersized fish and somehow the post turns into a discussion about Genocide, Africa, ISIS, Non Believers, the beheading of Americans, sexual orientation and race/religion Crazy how this place works sometimes
  17. You'll enjoy your stay at Mashkinonje, it's a nice place and Regan & Goldie are great folks and alot of fun to hang out with. We were there in June and are heading back up again next year. Hiring a guide sounds expensive but 1/2 a day may at least get you pointed in the right direction and give you an idea of what you need to do and where to go. Muskies aren't nearly as plentiful in that area as many places around Ontario but when you get one you can almost always be sure it'll be a goodun. Submerged rocks can also be an issue so just be careful where your going and you'll have a great trip. That area is a gorgeous part of Ontario and definitely my favorite place. Here's a picture I took of Regan fishing in front of the lodge one evening And one of the local residents
  18. I didn't make the rules, I just questioned why you said you'd feel uncomfortable judging him.
  19. The man INTENTIONALLY killed an UNDERSIZED fish and that's against the law, why would you feel uncomfortable judging him ??
  20. Came across this on another website, not my cup of tea but some may like the idea. http://www.bassfan.com/reviews_article.asp?id=210
  21. I caught my 1st one in the early 70's and ate it also. Most folks did back then but I also had it mounted and still have it hanging in the garage so I still have the memory of the 1st one.
  22. I joined up 12 years ago and it's been a fun ride ever since. TJ's the Captain and Roy steers the ship.
  23. You can shoot someone in this country Dave and don't get severely punished, sure not much chance of it happening for littering.
  24. If Lums Restaurant is still in Lake Placid it'd be worth your time to give it a try, we've eaten there before and the food is outstanding....although we haven't been there in awhile.
