  1. Way To GO. Specially to your wife, who had the hard part. I've been there twice in one year, but that was almost 32 years ago. All the best to your family. Time to see Dr. Snipit maybe... Cheers
  2. Order one from home hardware. Not real heavy. Comes with a t-handle and rope. http://www.homehardware.ca/en/rec/index.htm/Outdoor-Living/Sporting-Goods/All-Season/Fishing/Accessories/54-Ice-Fishing-Chisel-Spud/_/N-ntlej/R-I6580158
  3. That's wild Rick. Glad you're ok. That's quite strange as 8" of ice will normally support a car easily. There must have been quite the air gap under the ice so that the water was no longer supporting the ice. I've ice fished the Ottawa River tons and never had a problem, even in the current areas. You know what they say about falling off a horse. I don't think you should stop ice fishing over it. If it's something you enjoy that much then go for it, just make sure of ice conditions. Cheers
  4. It's never a good idea to upgrade early to a new OS anyway. There are always lots of kinks to work out. In this case with Win10 there are a lot of legitimate privacy issues. Microsoft want to know everything about everyone. Google it. Even worse is that now Microsoft has managed to slip in some of the same user tracking software into their "recommended" update category a while back for Win7 and 8. Check this out. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2978239/windows/microsoft-slips-user-tracking-tools-into-windows-7-8-amidst-windows-10-privacy-storm.html Cheers
  5. Some of you may remember this from back in the summer. I figured it was time to post a report. I actually managed to wait over 2 months before trying these. Turned them most every day. I started with #4. Well the spice mix wasn't bad but the orange peel turned out to be a big mistake as it didn't mix well with the other spices at all. Disappointed to say the least. I still have half the jar but I think I will rinse them out and add some fresh oil and garlic and more heat to see if that helps. Then I tried my #1, which was Ricks #3 recipe made with fresh garlic and a bit extra olive oil. They were very good with a nice bite to them but unfortunately I dropped the whole jar on my concrete basement floor so I didn't get to enjoy them much at all. Boy was I ever pissed at myself for that dumb move. Will definitely try again Next was my #2, which I modified from an online recipe I found. It turned out excellent, but unfortunately I'm almost out of that batch. Will definitely make again, maybe two, and one with more heat this time. Here is how I made it... 4 cups olives. Well rinsed and drained in my case 4 large cloves garlic. . In my case that's one large bulb of Music Don't use china crap. Sliced thin. Add to hot oil and simmer. They taste great too 1/2 cup sunflower oil. 4 tbsp of olive oil. 4 tbsp white wine vinegar 2 tsp coriander seed 1 tsp peppercorns 1 tsp of mustard seed 2 tsp cumin seed 1 tsp red pepper flakes. Add to hot oil and simmer 2 bay leaf leaves. Cut in half. I used fresh as I have a year round bay laurel plant. 1 tsp smoked paprika 1 tsp salt. I ground some pink salt in. Since I started using it I haven't used regular salt at all. It is so much better Toast all the seeds for 2-3 minutes. Your nose will thank you. I used a ss fry pan. Not too hot but the odd seed may jump around Add the oils, bring up to a light simmer for a bit and then kill the heat I added the paprika right at the end. Let cool for a while Alternate seeds and olives in the jar. I added the oil to jar while still hot. I did 5 batches that afternoon hehe. Use a fresh sealer lid on the mason jar, preferably preheated in very hot water. Never had a jar leak and two of them are still on their side yet. They are more square so they don't roll. I never missed a day turning them for at least the first month and didn't miss too many over the next month. Now its once a week for the last two that I haven't tried yet. These olives turned out excellent like I said. Highly recommend. Wish I could have had more of #1 to give a better review but I could eat these forever and be happy. Compared to what you could find even in a deli, well there is no comparison IMO, not even in a high end restaurant I'd wager. Fantastic on home made pizza btw. So thanks to Rick way back on page 37 for catching my eye with that one post on the hunt camp recipes. I got 5 qts for $18 worth of olives. I still have 2 remaining, #5 will be opening soon. If I really like it I'll post that recipe as well. Cheers
  6. That was very cool. Thanks so much for sharing. Cheers
  7. Same here. Works fine. Plus I use no-script add-on from firefox. Cheers
  8. Kinda funny how in this day and age with soaring prices and all, you'd think a place like that would have more business, not less. Couple that with those crazy salaries and a CEO with a history of spending problems and to me that raises a few flags. Cheers
  9. If you want an optical drive in your notebook you may have a harder time finding one these days. While Macs may be less prone to virus they are certainly not immune anymore. The best way to protect yourself from malware is to be logged on as a standard user, not an admin. That way you have no rights to install anything so malware can't either. If you do need permissions the UAC will pop up asking for an admin password which you can provide when required. That and keeping antivirus programs up to date will prevent most attacks. I picked up a nice ASUS notebook for my wife 4 years ago and it's still going strong. It came with a full 2 year warranty as well. I bought it from a local computer shop, which I would highly recommend over a big box store. As far as an OS goes, I can't stand Windows 8 with no start menu and Windows 10 has many privacy issues so I would suggest to stay with Win 7. Cheers
  10. If you're not driving what's the big deal. It's always been done.
  11. That may have been me. I've done it several times. Works great. You need to contact the shipping dept. I forget her name atm though. If it's in stock in that store she does the order up for you and shipping was very quick when I did it. Cheers
  12. FWIW. Just saw this on fb http://thefreethoughtproject.com/kind-study-finds-virtually-driving-impairment-influence-marijuana/ Cheers
  13. What I wonder is how and who is going to set the threshold for being impaired by pot. Some folks who don't puff much can get pretty buzzed by only a few tokes while others could smoke a whole joint by themselves and be relatively fine for driving. Impaired is a relative term. Cheers
  14. Lol Chris that's a perfect example of the EAP (extended arm pic) I'm with the OP on this one. I don't see it as showcasing as much as trying to make a fish look bigger to boost someones ego. Honestly, it just kinda bugs me when I see guys intentionally making 2-3 lb fish look like hogs, hoping to fool the unsuspecting. But whatever... With the real big ones you can usually tell but even a 5lb walleye can easily be made to look like a 10+. Just look for the sausage fingers hehe. That's why as a rule I rarely comment on pics anymore, except for the obvious ones. Even then it's still hard to tell for sure sometimes. A tape picture is great to prove length, and a weight to justify the pic would be nice but I fully understand that posting a weight just puts folks at risk of criticism, as pics are so easy to manipulate. Btw Chris, that's quite the buddy you have looking in on ya from the garage door window lol. Must be a story there. Cheers
  15. Wow, quite the machine, but I wonder what happens if you get it stuck though.
  16. From what I understand those electronic devices are junk, more of a gimmick than anything, and are not recommended at all. Cheers
  17. Just like the libs said the gun registry was only going to cost 1 million and ended up being way over a billion. Either they are totally clueless or blatant liars, likely a combination of both. Cheers
  18. Not sure exactly what your job entails but for pressing bearings into an end bell make sure to press only from the outer race of the bearing and be sure it's square going in. If you heat up the casting good you may even get the bearing to almost fall in. IMO you will only need loctite if the bearing is loose fitting and you'll worry about the outer race spinning. If pressing a bearing onto a shaft make sure to only press on the inner race or you will damage the bearing. The proper sized socket can work well and a drill press can be used as a makeshift arbour press, which is the best tool to use. Cheers
  19. I agree. Huge difference between 28% and 98% deet. I recently got 4 bottles from the states. Repel 100 and Maxi Deet. I'm good for a long time now. Just have to be careful around plastics with that stuff. Cheers
  20. Very well said. Couldn't agree more. Cheers
  21. That's for sure. And guaranteed not a fish would be released either...
  22. Butchers will never take the time to clean a deer up like you can at home. Time is money to them. Not that most don't do a good job but they won't be meticulous trimming like doing it at home. Cheers
  23. Good news for sure. It's about time. The only line I'm a bit wary of is this..."Baiting of bears during all bear hunting seasons would be regulated to help address possible public safety concerns." Not sure what that means exactly so we'll have to wait and see on that one. Cheers
  24. OUCH. $2600 is a huge pile of coin to pay, but they kinda know they got ya, plus at least you get the satisfaction of knowing they're insured and really know what they're doing, so the chance of misadventure is slim. Wouldn't surprise me at all if other quotes came in the same ball park. On the other hand, I'll bet that nice healthy tree is looking better all the time right where it is. Good luck with it. Cheers
