  1. for years I fished like DanC...auger, spool of line/leaders/hooks, scooper and some bait. The odd fire on the ice. Simple as that and minimal investment. Its only been the last year I've added some comforts...portable hut, heater. Fishing can definitely be enjoyable when you're roughing it....but now I'm old and want to stay warm
  2. hard to rebuild without draft picks. At least Phil the Thrill is showing glimpses of why they gave up a huge price to get him. Not his fault Burke built a crap team and thought he had a contender
  3. Prices have always been good. The issues I always had when I lived down that way was a couple of the guys in the Mississ store were pretty much morons. I once stood at the counter for 5 minutes while 2 guys made idle chitchat with each other...until I lost it on them. Do you know how long 5 minutes is when you're the only one at the counter and the staff are basically ignoring you? Felt like an hour my blood pressure was on the rise
  4. holy smokes...they MIGHT make the playoffs. Pretty sure they were in first place for a while last season as well...but this time it might be somewhat real. I was very happy to see Scrivens in net. Gustaffsaon is not even an adequate back-up. Leafs have been winning, but in spite of Gustaffsson, not because of him. This other guy tonight played far better than "the monster". Time to cut the losses on that guy and move on, he is not a kid
  5. we were 4.5 mph last week-end and got a few - 20 feet of water
  6. never been up that way, but had a buddy that used Snowfari a couple of years ago and they said it was horrible. So close to shore they wondered if they were still over ashphalt instead of water. All they caught were mudpuppies
  7. ...Cliff Claven to the rescue! Gotta love OFC, no matter how obscure the topic, someone around here will have knowledge of it.
  8. great for them. I couldn't care less that they are great drivers and have great cars. Its not them I'm concerned about. How about the mother who has 3 kids in the car? Does a quick check to see nobody beside her to change lanes. Is she trained to expect somebody is about to pass her going twice her speed? What looks like a clear lane to turn into as you travel 55 mph is very suddenly occupied by an idiot. You want to go 120 mph? Buy some time at a track. Its hard to believe you are trying to justify this behaviour.
  9. ...hmmm can't say I agree with that. If I shoot a gun through a loaded mall and don't hit anyone there's no foul? This guy's car was a loaded gun, just because he didn't kill anyone doesn't mean he did nothing wrong. 120 mph is a stupid speed to be driving and endangers everyone around you
  10. I've seen it happen as I'm working a weedline...guys pull up and start fishing 100 - 200 feet ahead. Fortunately it is very rare, happens once in a blue moon so I just ignore and after a few minutes change tactics or location
  11. Nope. Where I go the fish (perch) are so thick it doesn't matter if I'm 100 feet this way or that way. Drill a hole, catch like mad until I'm bored and the fingers are numb, go home.
  12. missed that one, but heard Cole bumble through the Leaf game
  13. wow thats a beauty pike
  14. other than the evolution stuff pretty hard to argue with a lot of that. Its funny because its true
  15. wow that's power
  16. there's another good point - auto locking doors. What's more likely, that you will get car-jacked or get in an accident and possibly need help? What a dumb feature (if intrusion is the reason). If you live in Detroit, Washington or Miami - lock your doors. For the rest of us I'd prefer it stay unlocked in case I need help!
  17. I am the "Mod". Just listened to "Town called Malice" by the Jam, doesn't get any more mod than those dudes...oops this probably should go on the "What are you listening to" non-fishing thread...or maybe it shouldn't, I haven't opened that thread BECAUSE IT DOESN'T INTEREST ME
  18. I get out more frequently in the winter, but for shorter periods of time. I don't fish Simcoe at all from boat, but its hard to turn down ice fishing 15 minutes from home! I'll take off on a Saturday morning, can fish for a few hours and still be home by noon to help the wife out. Hard to do the same when you're dragging a boat out to the Kawarthas and back
  19. there's a perfect baby! Nice picture with the proud papa
  20. ...and a funeral director too. You want to not wear a seatbelt? Hope I don't see you soon
  21. thanks for posting those settings Scugog, i was actually going to get in touch with you about optimal settings so the timing of this is good. Danbob,as far as electrical interference, it can really do a number. I had to reroute the wiring on my last fishfinder because interference made it non-usable.
  22. yes...release the head first, then sometime later the body
  23. ...I'd suggest not eating anything you find that is already dead
  24. congrats on achieving your goal! Unfortunately I did not reach my goal of 100 aurora trout for the year, only made it to 94
  25. have a buddy who has a charter booked on LSC tomorrow, sounds like the guide might be calling it off due to conditions being poor. Either way, I'm sure these guys will find a way to enjoy themselves
