  1. is rack n reel not around anymore? I knew Penny was trying to sell but I haven't been over there for a few months
  2. oh man that would freak some people out
  3. great fish...I always seem to pack it in too early
  4. that fish is stupid big...I give the guy credit for being able to hold it away from his body too, that's a lot of weight at an arms length!
  5. ..hmmm I used to always drive through Hamilton to go musky fishing out that way. And although I was in a boat, I definitely saw them get caught from shore, and most that I caught were within a cast's distance of shore. That shoreline is VERY accessible too, even has parking lots...free ones! Now you have to go figure it out!
  6. now you're talking Mike! Maybe I can ride shotgun with you until I can upgrade my own boat. Currently I have a lighter weight Princecraft (162 s/c with a 50) that I worry might be a little light for LSC. And with SlowPokes offer I'm sure I'll be back catching toothy esox in no time. Speaking of which, when does season end down there...we move on dec 14th. If closing is the 15th I'm sure my wife would LOVE it if I went fishing instead of unpacking. Last year I "unwinterized" the boat just before closing, broke through an inch of ice for about 100 feet to reach open water but closed the season with a 46 incher on Balsam)
  7. ...oh Brian...I'll miss you
  8. ...sad but true Lew. We will likely still make the drive to Pigeon once or twice a year, but I'll have to come up with a different plan. I'll let you know when we're going to be there!
  9. Well, we're leaving Barrie area, moving to Kitchener for work. Around here I've enjoyed hitting quarries a couple of times a summer to catch the odd pike or bass with my kids. If anyone were willing to pm me any quarry tips for the Kitchener area my kids would love you. I see there are a lot of them out that way, and since I have limited time to test them out, any hints would be appreciated. Anyone who wants to know any little secrets around Barrie feel free to pm me and I'll help where I can.
  10. that is just ridiculous...the gas at the stations has been inventoried LONG before any effects of Sandy were felt. It is exactly what Lew said - an excuse
  11. I'm hoping mine is the same up near Parry Sound...we just sold it, closing in 30 days. Last thing i need is a giant tree in the living room!
  12. Wow what a report! Some serious fish there. I don't think that one is a tiger though, pretty sure it is a "barred" musky. Oh well, gives you a reason to go back...find yourself a tiger!
  13. very bad idea...so its probably true!
  14. ...that's the last lady who always had a nightgown on. Let me tell you, that thing was worn pretty thin too...much too thin. She was always friendly at least. The new one makes it painfully obvious that you are a MAJOR inconvenience to her
  15. ...just don't get on the wrong side of the lady up there...she's a real peach
  16. troll a big heavy spinnerbait through the weeds at 5 mph and hang on...and by big I mean the heaviest son of a gun you can find...try JB's in Toronto for some big spinnerbaits that can troll well
  17. right on! I saw one on the upper niagara before, about the same size
  18. santa maria!
  19. I live vicariously through posts like that, thanks for taking the time to post it!
  20. beauty fish. As far as the gills, there is a quarry out here and I repeatedly catch the same pike...and he's got more gill hanging out than that! I'm amazed good ol one lung keeps coming back for more
  21. well done Lew and Mike, those are some gorgeous fish!
  22. wow. that's a LOT of people fishing together
  23. got some bad news for you. Kawarthas not uncommon to have a 3 fish day. French not uncommon to have a 3 fish week. Not the place for numbers in my opinion, but a place for bigger fish (ie heavier)
  24. I've only fished a few of the Kawartha Lakes, but for me, Pigeon has probably been the most reliable
  25. wow. never had a problem with any of my compre musky rods
