  1. ...and I hate it too. Last time I used it a bunch of drunk Irish wimmin chased me through town
  2. the ganges?
  3. good stuff...I just finished eating my Balsam pike from Thursday. It actually was pretty good. My one son loved it and couldn't get enough. I agree with you they are eating well. My pike was mid 30's and solid. I have not turned into a fish-eater yet, but I will certainly extinguish any pike from Balsam.
  4. beauty fish! Must have been a knee shaking experience
  5. thanks BB...pretty much what I had expected...somewhere between 200-500/day for most of them. Somebody once told me they were $1000/day which i thought was ludicrous. I see only the "luxury" vessel is in that kind of price range
  6. we have often wondered about rates on these things. I don't have a clue whether it would be $200/day or $500/day. Care to share what you get for what kind of $?
  7. Never done this, but if they met you at 3 different locks to try and fix it I'd say they did their best!
  8. ...I get skunked
  9. ya I was so close to watching the video...but chose to just get started instead. Any other lake the slimy beast goes back in the lake, but Balsam pike was gonna die. Didn't take a picture of the musky, just popped the hook out at the side of the boat and away she went.
  10. what about rack n reel? Not sure if they have anything that big but you could always try. Come to think of it, last I heard (a few months back) Penny was selling it so not sure if its still rack r reel. Maybe its a place where you can give your poodle a pedicure now.
  11. Went out to Balsam today. Last time I was here (June) we got a pike, which was a first for us in Balsam. My buddy kept that one and ate it, decent fish over 30 inches. Today I got one as well, also over 30 inches. Yuck, what's a guy to do. I don't even like fish. Well for the sake of the muskies, I took it home and filleted it. I've heard of these y-bones, and thought about watching a video about how to clean a pike...but unfortunately I didn't. Luckily this was a pretty big fish and had some giant fillets...until I tried to remove the y bones. Man what a job when you don't know how to do it...lot of waste (which I guess is a good thing...did I mention I don't eat fish?). More bad news too...I hooked a musky on my favorite spinnerbait, and lost it on the jump. I bet half my fish this year were caught on this bait. Brought it in and the spinnerbait had broke in half! All I had left was the arm with the blades on it. Anyone ever seen that happen before? Besides that musky I did manage to land a small one (36 inches or so) and lost one that I never saw. Not a bad few hours...now to get psyched up for eating some pike. My kids thought it was pretty cool when I opened his stomach and took out a 6 inch perch!
  12. nuts...I'm getting out Thursday. hope you found someone
  13. Thanks guys. We do a 2 day trip on late October...might have to give it a try! I'm glad to hear the first couple of hours seem to be the best. We took a week at Pigeon this summer, and me and my buddy would only stay out for an hour or so after dark because the wimmin were waiting back at the cabins...kind of a 7:30 to 10:30 thing each night (darkness starting at 9:30). Sounds like we were out there at prime time (and we did have some success)
  14. I can't believe I read the whole thing...but it was worth it! Thanks for taking the time to write it...I knew something good had to be coming.
  15. You've summed up our summer tactics...as it started to get dark, we packed everything up and stowed it away - extra rods, tackle etc. We really simplified, and we chose a lure we stuck with it rather than changing every couple of minutes as we are prone to do during the day. I'm glad to hear it works all seasons. Not sure if I'll get out at night (haven't since July) but its nice to know its an option. I think the temps will be an issue. Usually by late afternoon we are done!
  16. Started night time fishing for muskies this summer and quite enjoyed it. Love it when they jump and all you hear is the big splash but see nothing! Anyways, is this pretty much a summer thing or has anyone had success in the early or late fall?
  17. we used some on a countertop and it was total [email protected] its not meant for that. Ended up ripping the whole countertop up.
  18. yes and no. That is a small large mouth bass
  19. So he says 8kg's but the female newscaster calls it 40 pounds? I like her. Any woman that can give a guy that much credit is ok in my books
  20. here I thought I was the only guy crazy enough to fish musky barefoot! Great video
  21. How about up near Parry Sound? I have weed free swimming at my cottage. Sandy beach on part of the lot, deeper water to dive into other part of lot, only 9 cottages on the whole lake! Although i like Kawarthas for musky fishing, I find cottaging WAY better up that way. Shoot...we've debated selling for the last year or 2...make me an offer I can't refuse
  22. awesome! congratulations
  23. ditto. started with 80, thought I'd try one rod at 65...lost a lure on a backlash...back to the 80
  24. if the wife is with me, we'll be in a cottage. If its just the boys, who cares about the rain...go fishing!
  25. that's Balsam for you...some days I love it, some days I hate it.
