  1. ...aaah the one that got away...keeps us all going back! The one you got looks pretty good though (although I think the pose might be giving it a bit of help!)
  2. Bit of an update...finally got the new boat out on the water and all went well. We launched at Marine park and headed out to XE2 in search of pike. Since the motor was new, we broke it in by trolling out there in varying speeds (rather than bombing out there like everyone else!). Good thing we did, first fish to grace the boat was a 25 inch pickerel not too far from the channel that leads to the marina! This was very fitting for me that a pickerel wouold be the first fish caught in the new boat. I have a habit of catching these dang pesky pickerel when I'm after something else. After that surprise visit, the pike were particularly cooperative. We lost count how many slimed us. There are a lot of hammerhandles around that xe2. We caught lots, and saw many other people pull in slimy esox as well. Thanks for the info, we had a good day.
  3. thanks Mac, I found the same map in my search. Basically we are just going to go out and explore, these are the first minutes on the new motor so time to break it in and our first time on st clair so we'll likely just tootle around for a few hours looking around. We heard Mitchells was a good spot for pike so we thought we'd give it a shot. Told my buddy about the perch option and he seems to like that idea
  4. hey good idea! Maybe go after some perch instead...now to find where xe2 is!
  5. Well lets start with any free launches at Mitchell's Bay? Even if not free any place you'd recommend? Taking the new boat out for its maiden voyage in search of pike tomorrow. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as well (ie areas to avoid...I hear there are some sandbars out there).
  6. ya I was kinda shocked by the 49 number too, but I haven't been out yet so did not know what to expect. I guess its 49 somewhere but hopefully warmer at Mitchell's Bay where we're headed
  7. haha good luck with that. I think the boat was getting lower to the ground...the last time I did it my belly seemed to be a lot closer to the hull as I was lying on my back under the boat.
  8. ouch...I'm after pike on Monday hopefully things pick up!
  9. you know Terry
  10. hmmmm.. that was the exact moment my mother-in-law rolled out of bed and hit the floor. Coincidence? I think not
  11. Nicely done! I havent fished in about 6 months so I definitely have the itch
  12. there is the one that shall remain nameless
  13. Rob...we'll talk in 8-10 years!
  14. Well after a LOT of research and a few polls on here (alumacraft vs smokercraft vs lowe) and (suzuki vs. merc. vs. yamaha) it was the alumacraft with the yamaha that won out. Once I brought my princecraft up to Kickingfrog, it was time to visit Clarence at Bay City Marine and bring this baby home. Glad I measured the garage twice, because even with the swing tongue this thing really maxes it out...only a couple of inches to spare! Was incredibly excited to get it out on the water this past Saturday, until truck problems left me in dry-dock. Thank you to all who posted their opinions. Although you caused me to spend more money (especially maxing the boat out with the 90) I think it was the right decision. One real nice surprise when I went to pick it up was the boat was on a galvanized trailer...I had not been expecting that. Clarence from Bay City Marine was a real pleasure to deal with, I would recommend anyone looking for a Lund check them out (they no longer carry alumacraft).
  15. I had heard the same thing about marking fish, but then I heard with the 788 you can choose down imaging mode or regular mode.
  16. I had the same issue Roy, but every couple of years I would sand down the areas that had the chips and then repaint those spots.
  17. Getting a Humminbird 788. Is it worth it to get down imaging or is just a gimic? Thanks
  18. ...you're nuts. That their engine is the best I've ever had out of the 6 outboards I've owned in my life...and 2 of those have been mercs! Like someone else said, it is actually a Suzuki. Would not have changed it for the world.
  19. ...dude...can I have it back? It is a bit sad seeing it go, but then I picked up my new alummacraft and suddenly felt a lot better! I hope you enjoy it Rob, it was a pleasure meeting you.
  20. how about Toronto Island? Grenadier Park...Humber River, Credit river etc. Lots of places not too far from home
  21. Nice! Where are you going (or did you already go and you've been waiting for it to sell)?
  22. nice job! find any big ones?
  23. didn't know you're allowed 3 hooks on one line like that, I've always just used 2 (not sure why, never looked up the rules...guess I should have, could have caught a few more fish!) Congrats on the tagged one
  24. how do you define "less expensive" There are units out there for just over 100...but my Elite 5 for around 500 I would consider a lower cost unit. What kind of pricing do you mean?
  25. doesn't the marina itself look after this?
