  1. Ya I would have a tough time doing something like that. I release 99.9% of the fish I catch and like my meat to come nicely processed in a package. Not sure I could celebrate killing something
  2. insurance claim? yup...$21,000 per set
  3. forget what its called...how did it taste? Looks like great musky bait.
  4. ...yes that is a good reason for me to sit at lakeside with a beer rather than head out for muskies
  5. We have been staying down near Gannon's....the water is certainly no cooler over here. The bazillion bluegill my kids catch off the dock are literally warm to the touch
  6. Are you talking about the one near Sparrow?
  7. Saw the same thing a couple nights ago while night fishing on Pigeon. Figured the same thing....meteorite....I also thought it had the look of a firework (without the bang at the end!)
  8. That is definitely tough news, and it sounds like many of us here can empathize. When we moved from Barrie to Guelph, we had a similar decision. Our cottage in Parry Sound was just going to be too far away. We made the (very) difficult decision to sell it. Now we just go and rent a couple times a year. For us it was the right decision, and it certainly sounds like it is the right decision for you....not that that makes it any more easy to do. That is an awesome boat, I remember when you bought it. It will bring the new owner much joy and I am sure this is not the last time you will be fishing out of it!
  9. now THAT is a day!
  10. Awesome! Ya those dink pike will trash a spinnerbait in a hurry. Tremendous willpower to get out there 5 days in a row...and kicking about at that. You will have thighs of steel by the end of summer. I have a hard enough time getting in a boat that often with so many other commitments! Good for you and keep the reports coming.
  11. yup that's a beaut. I have caught a few closing in on 10 lbs while fishing for musky...you would swear (and I have) that you are reeling in a branch off bottom
  12. that is so nuts. Thank goodness for good aim
  13. wow what a giant...I need to go walleye fishing apparently. Love the landing job too
  14. it didn't take much...a lot like when I got that first musky...sold. So close to home, big fighting fish what 's not to like! Not sure i will ever get downriggers but I have 3 dipseys now...one of em gets down 100 feet! I am afraid to see what lives deeper than 100 feet (giant squid?) so dipsey's should be fine
  15. well I guess I could have gone. Current winds are only 10 k. Then again, sleeping in for once isn't so bad either!
  16. well that does it...no fishing tomorrow! since I only had 3.5 hours to fish (6-9:30 am) anything further from Guelph is out of the question. Thanks all for your input
  17. Was hoping to fish Lake O tomorrow launching under skyway bridge. Plan was to fish from 6 am to 9:30, but I see winds in the 15-20 k range out of the east. Since I have only fished Lake O twice not sure what effect this would have. I would think not great...hence my question. I am in a 16 8 foot alumacraft full windshield. For those who know these waters...is this suitable to go out in or best to keep the boat in the garage?
  18. ouch. I have been skunked out there before...terrible. When you drive THAT far, very disheartening. Thanks goodness its usally reliable and worth the drive. But after all, it is musky fishing, those tough days are sure to happen.
  19. ...and I don't blame you for 10 hours fishing! I have a rule when we go to St. C....we will spend more time on the water than in the car...so minimum 7 hours fishing as its a solid 3 hours from north Guelph where I live.
  20. If you don't do a report at least shoot me a pm please, would like to know how you did. We were out there last week....but did zero casting...all trolling!
  21. wow that is a good spot never know what you will get! Congrats on the ski beauty looking fish
  22. Some real beauties there. Your time will come, these things have a way of balancing out. I remember one year I had 9 in the boat before my partner even got one...he wasn't happy. The following year everything I got was 36 or under (so it seemed) and all his seemed to be over 40
  23. Not sure what constitutes a large walleye lure...but the lures we use when we go are not big at all by musky standards. Something along the size of a supershadrap, which is not a pricey bait, works just great down there. for $15 each maybe grab a couple of those...chuck em overboard and troll around 4 mph. Your downrigger/dipsey rods will be fine, my buddy uses em all the time
  24. ditto on the sledges. I usually cast em but they actually have a real nice side to side wobble when you troll them
  25. wow. I tried the salmon thing for the first time week ago with buddy who is just getting into it...went 4 for 7. Like it so much I bought some dipseys and went in my boat a few days later...3 for 4! Nice to find some fishing I enjoy close to home. Usually its a long haul and a long day out and back to st clair. This is a nice alternative...especially if I start to see the success you guys are having
