Awesome! Ya those dink pike will trash a spinnerbait in a hurry. Tremendous willpower to get out there 5 days in a row...and kicking about at that. You will have thighs of steel by the end of summer. I have a hard enough time getting in a boat that often with so many other commitments! Good for you and keep the reports coming.
-
yup that's a beaut. I have caught a few closing in on 10 lbs while fishing for musky...you would swear (and I have) that you are reeling in a branch off bottom
-
that is so nuts. Thank goodness for good aim
-
wow what a giant...I need to go walleye fishing apparently. Love the landing job too
-
it didn't take much...a lot like when I got that first musky...sold. So close to home, big fighting fish what 's not to like! Not sure i will ever get downriggers but I have 3 dipseys now...one of em gets down 100 feet! I am afraid to see what lives deeper than 100 feet (giant squid?) so dipsey's should be fine
-
well I guess I could have gone. Current winds are only 10 k. Then again, sleeping in for once isn't so bad either!
-
well that does it...no fishing tomorrow! since I only had 3.5 hours to fish (6-9:30 am) anything further from Guelph is out of the question. Thanks all for your input
-
Was hoping to fish Lake O tomorrow launching under skyway bridge. Plan was to fish from 6 am to 9:30, but I see winds in the 15-20 k range out of the east. Since I have only fished Lake O twice not sure what effect this would have. I would think not great...hence my question. I am in a 16 8 foot alumacraft full windshield. For those who know these waters...is this suitable to go out in or best to keep the boat in the garage?
-
ouch. I have been skunked out there before...terrible. When you drive THAT far, very disheartening. Thanks goodness its usally reliable and worth the drive. But after all, it is musky fishing, those tough days are sure to happen.
-
...and I don't blame you for 10 hours fishing! I have a rule when we go to St. C....we will spend more time on the water than in the car...so minimum 7 hours fishing as its a solid 3 hours from north Guelph where I live.
-
If you don't do a report at least shoot me a pm please, would like to know how you did. We were out there last week....but did zero casting...all trolling!
-
wow that is a good spot never know what you will get! Congrats on the ski beauty looking fish
-
Some real beauties there. Your time will come, these things have a way of balancing out. I remember one year I had 9 in the boat before my partner even got one...he wasn't happy. The following year everything I got was 36 or under (so it seemed) and all his seemed to be over 40

Will my big Walley plugs work on Lake St. Clair?
Rizzo replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Not sure what constitutes a large walleye lure...but the lures we use when we go are not big at all by musky standards. Something along the size of a supershadrap, which is not a pricey bait, works just great down there. for $15 each maybe grab a couple of those...chuck em overboard and troll around 4 mph. Your downrigger/dipsey rods will be fine, my buddy uses em all the time -
Trolling Musky Lures, getting caught in weeds
Rizzo replied to Tjames09's topic in General Discussion
ditto on the sledges. I usually cast em but they actually have a real nice side to side wobble when you troll them -
wow. I tried the salmon thing for the first time week ago with buddy who is just getting into it...went 4 for 7. Like it so much I bought some dipseys and went in my boat a few days later...3 for 4! Nice to find some fishing I enjoy close to home. Usually its a long haul and a long day out and back to st clair. This is a nice alternative...especially if I start to see the success you guys are having

Trolling Musky Lures, getting caught in weeds

safety pin style...practically weedless. Not sure what the weight of them is...5 ounces? Heavy. I like black skirts and orange with yellow skirts. JB's probably has a good selection, that's where I bought my last few I think -

get a BIG musky spinnerbait....you will not find this just at any tackle shop. It should cost you close to $30 and be a heavy son of a gun. Toss er back 25 feet with the boat going 6 mph. That'll do it. If it doesn't...you aren't going 6 mph. One more tip...you will want rod holders! -
I noticed you said the single bucktails burned you out...thats trouble. We use singles when its time to rest a bit! You just have to get your body in game shape. Nothing wrong with trolling bucktails either when you are gettin a bit tired. I catch lots of muskies trolling them (although casting is certainly a more fun way to catch them). Leaders? I have gone anywhere from 60lb fluoro to 150...probably somewhere in the 100-120 lb range would do it. Pike will figure 8, I have caught one that way. It was a pike who followed and wouldn't leave side of boat even after I pulled lure out of water. I put lure back in and he grabbed it on the first turn (so maybe it was more of an L than a figure 8!). Barbless? no I would just cut the hooks out of a deep hooked fish...I fish enough hours just to get a hit...definitely keeping the barbs. Don't always need huge lures for muskies, try different sizes and see what the fish want on a particular body of water. I have caught many muskies on super shadraps and that is not a big bait at all.

I like that kids logic

Princie will fit in your garage probably too, not sure if that's a consideration
-
Actually posts that celebrate the number of posts you have made don't technically count...maybe next year you'll get there

if your current motor has given you no grief I am also of the opinion of sticking with it. Why fix what ain't broke! Yes you can spend 9000 and have a warranty...but if your new motor is a lemon your boat will sit in the shop. Sure its covered by warranty but what comfort is that when its sitting high and dry in the marina. Just because something is new doesn't mean it will be trouble free, might have been made on a Friday by guys looking forward to the week-end. Now if your current motor is very unreliable and IS a lemon...then yes, go for it and hope the new one treats you well

that is sweet looking bait glad to see it paid off

I tolerated the bare chest....then scrolled down and saw the short shorts. There's a no no. Nice fish though
