  4. There is a bit of a misconception that they can just take your boat gun or car and never return it if you get caught in a minor violation but it's not really that way. In a very few serious cases they can seize vehicles, boats etc. Even if this does happen, the items are usually returned when the perp goes to court unless the court orders that they be forfeited to the crown which very rarely happens except in very serious cases. The key is the difference between seize (temporary) and forfeit (bye-bye for good). Anyway, maybe it would be a bit better penalty in many cases.
  5. I just give mine a go with a scrubbing pad and some boat wax from time to time and it seems fine. My first boat had a trolling motor that had been in storage for 3 years or so and it was seized solid so you couldn't even deploy it. Once I got it moved I cleaned and waxed it and never had another issue.
  6. That has crossed the line between immoral and illegal...you can't operate at over 6mph within 100' of shore. He should be reported.
  7. Well maybe you could offer an answer to whatever you think the question is then....sheds and septic systems do have something to do with permits so not sure what your beef is.
  8. Well if that were the case, the OP wouldn't likely be asking the question in the first place. The OBC still applies regardless even in unorganized townships where permits are not required. You may not need a permit but you are still required to follow the OBC.
  9. If you make your shed over over 10 square metres (107 sq. ft.) you are required by the OBC to get a building permit (your 9x13 is just over this). If you go to get a permit, you will have to show your site plan with at least 5m setback from any structure to your tile bed which sounds like a show stopper. Building on top of a tile bed is never a good idea but if that's what you need to do, you'd be best to spread the load as much as possible on patio stones to prevent soil complaction and make your shed a bit smaller to avoid the permit application. I don't see a lot of other options.
  10. Although they don't go out of their way to say so, you still need a building permit to put one of these up if it's over 10 square metres (106 sq feet). That said, assuming you get a permit, you need to meet OBC which requires that you put in a foundation, slab, or otherwise anchor it down which they point out is NOT included. The anchoring details would need to be provided with your drawings and permit application. This is not necessarily a show stopper, but I know of some folks who were led to believe than can just stick one of these pre-fabs wherever they want without a permit which isn't necessarily true.

  15. Just hoping some members can tell me what the process is to take my boat and tackle across the land border to the US and back. I've entered by water lots of times but never crossed at the bridge. Planning to cross and Windsor/Detroit for a week and returning there as well. Not much on either the CBSA or USC&BP websites that I can find. Thanks in advance...

Maybe check these out, looks like they may have already done the figuring out part They don't tell you how to wire it until you buy it though otherwise they would never sell any since there's not much to them physically.   18. Sorry, there I go assuming again...my bad. I'm thinking you're looking at $12-15k for excavation, footings, foundation wall, backfill, & floor. Of course there are lots of factors to consider that may affect that especially when all the contractors are busy...

If you plan to get a permit and adhere to the Ontario Building Code, floating slabs are only permitted on buildings under 50 sq m (538 sq. ft), you will need a full foundation for your building. Drains in garages in this province are also a no-no in many cases depending on local by-laws. Not too many contractors want to do design/builds anymore so you may have to get somebody to do some drawings & apply for permit then you may have more luck.   20. This change also makes our lives much easier since we no longer need to check in every time we return to Canadian waters....hardly anybody did but you could have been fined $1000 (minimum) if you didn't.
  21. Those shingles look they're in rough shape to begin with, they will likely only pay for a repair. Our whole area got smoked in that big windstorm and most of the companies only paid for repairs unless the shingles were relatively new.
  22. Ya, the law has been that way for years and beaten to death on numerous forums. It never made any sense and this will make the rules more or less consistent for all boaters operating in and out of border waters without officially landing in the bordering country.   23. Gran A & B are not used in concrete, they are a mixture of the specified granular sizes used for sub-grade bases. Normally, only screened and sized aggregates are used in concrete. Sorry to the OP for minor hijacking.....
  24. OPS Granular A & B are specifications for the size and constitution of granular fill materials. A gravel is finer than B gravel. For heavy duty applications, B gravel is usually used as a base with finer A gravel compacted on top. Often for sidewalks and slabs, the native material or topsoil is removed and replaced with compacted granular A.
  25. I'm just wondering why you couldn't just network your bow HDS to your main one and use your DS/SS transducer on the stern?
