OH YEAH!!! like every other day i see them! tons of traps out lately... haven't been on the highway much lately, but on smaller streets (especially 80km zones that turn into 60km zones)... they are there!!!
-
a leader when fishing for pike is always a good idea... a good sized pike (anything over 5 pounds) can and sometimes will take the entire spoon in it's mouth...
-
i wish i could find my favourite gamakatsu hooks in bulk... from somewhere that will actually ship to canada... i'm stuck buying them in packages of 12... and at $7 a pop, it would be a small fortune to replace all my hooks.
-
it must be submerged ice.... maybe????? cause any other time i've seen simcoe with open water on that site, it's all dark blue.
-
good enough for me... LOL. Nice Fish!!! here's another 32"er... for... ummm... comparison also...
-
alright... thanks for the advice irishfield!!! much appreciated!
-
what about brazing the leaky spots??? would that be a viable option? i know that would generally be done on the seams and such, but would that work on the loose rivets as well???
-
thanks for the advise guys!!! THANKS!!! I'm glad this thread was taken seriously!!!

i just bought a used aluminum boat that has a small leak somewhere on the hull... i knew about the leak prior to buying... anyways, we found a loose rivet up near the front of the boat, and i'm thinking/hoping that is the leak... and hopefully the only leak, lol. any advise on sealing that up??? i don't want to have to rip up the deck if i don't have to... so fixing it from the outside of the hull would be preferred!!! Thanks in advance!

what fish???

OMG... I think i'm in love!!!
-
pretty sure it's pike... they move into their spawning grounds (shallow bays usually) right after ice out... and once the water reaches approx. 40 degrees F. they do their thing.
-
buy the 20 dollar one once... then buy the packaged stuff and put it into the tub!!! it's the same product, just packaged without the "juice"
-
that is a great idea!!! i will be trying that this year for sure!!!
-
totally agree!!! the leafs were definitely the better team that year... i was only 8 or 9 years old at the time... but that would have been the most epic stanley cup final in history! and the leafs would have won it too... unbelievable!!!
-
i'm in, for sure! that would be awesome!!!
-
most places are 12... which dropped from 25 in the old regs book... in most lakes, the average size whitie is much smaller than an average "simcoe" whitie... if that makes any difference to you???

jedi, there is lots of open water at Frenchman's Bay in Pickering... i didn't notice the ramp though...i should be down there at some point in the next 4 or 5 days, i'll send you a PM if it's clear.

i'm sure you're starting to figure out this internet fishing forum thing pretty quick with the posts from this thread... people don't give away their spots (like i said), and by no means was i trying to be rude about that... it's just the way it is... wait until the steelhead reports start coming in, you'll see all kinds of blurred pictures to "mask" the backgrounds... Seriously!!! shore spots are hard to come by, and when you find a good one, you keep it to yourself, and if you do share, you have to choose who you share it with WISELY!!! i'm sure everyone here has boasted about a good spot at some point in their "fishing career" and come back to that spot a week later to find everybody and their mother fishing the hole that they found... it sucks!!! finding those spots is what makes everything worth while! that is what fishing is all about... put in the time and you will get rewarded... learn the body of water that you are fishing (topographical maps are a HUGE benefit - as long as you know what you're looking for), learn about what types of fish prefer what type of structure... learn about the feeding habits of those fish in that particular body of water (what they are feeding on)... ask locals (or local tackle shops - but keep in mind they are trying to make a buck off of you by selling their stock) about what is working for what species of fish... and ask locals where they are fishing, you may get lucky, some people don't care if they give away their spots... tackle shops are usually pretty informed about where fish are being caught... seriously, just learn as much as you can, and the best way of doing that is going out and experimenting with different locations and different presentations!!!!! AND have fun doing it... it will mean a few "skunkings" but it happens to the best of us... I can't wait to see some posts from you saying that you found a great spot on the Niagara somewhere that nobady else fishes... trust me it is the most rewarding thing in fishing - when you find a spot that is completely untouched and you are just hammering fish there... then you'll understand why shore spots are so protected! GOOD LUCK!!!!! and have FUN!!!!!
-
you may be on to something there... i've got some shore spots that are probably worth a few thousand $$$ at least seriously... 10 - 20 walleyes per night all between 2 and 5 pounds... hehehe
-
no offense, but don't expect anyone to give away their shore spots to you... especially since this was your first post... GOOD shore spots are GOLD!!! and usually they are that good because a lot of people don't know about them... you're in the Niagara region, there are great spots all over the Niagara river... put in some time fishing the area... soon enough you'll find your own HOT spots. Welcome to the board!!!

it's not there anymore... it's in my basement!!!
-
Nice Pike!!! and great release shots! the last pic is a rockbass... check out the red eye!!! perch and crappie don't have that... the only other fish that has a red eye like that is a smallmouth bass... and it's not a smallie!

i'm sure that unit would be just fine, but it's not a portable... you could, like someone mentioned, Macgyver something up as a suitable power source... but this particular model is one that you would mount to a boat and wire up to the boat's battery... unless there is a portable model that just isn't listed there... i've got a portable humminbird piranha, and while ice fishing it works fine... though, if it's a fairly cold day it doesn't read the transducer and just doesn't work at all (on the screen it will say "transducer not connected") and it won't read anything... also, if you're gonna go with a portable fish finder over a flasher (like a Vex or Marcum), here are a couple tips that will help you out... i'm sure the unit you pick up will be slightly different... i've got mine set up as follows... and again, this is for MY unit... yours may be different... 1. turn off the fish ID 2. turn up the sensitivity as high as possible 3. leave the "filter" option ON (if your unit has one) otherwise you'll get all kinds of garbage on the screen that you don't want 4. turn the chart speed to it's maximum speed setting, that way it is as close to "real" time as possible. good luck with your purchase! and if you have any more questions about fine tuning the settings, send me a pm, i'll try to help as much as possible.
