  1. i've been eyeing the Toro since it came out... the 60HS WILL be my next musky reel for sure!
  2. here's another one... (look at signature below)...
  3. a also agree with the battery connections... i have the same issues once in a while, especially if the battery terminals are wet when i initially connect the cables to the battery. whenever i i have this problem, i just dry them off, then re-connect... 95% of the time that works.
  4. Vanish??? really??? wait... that was a joke right?
  5. i use the 4 lb for ice fishing, and i've used the 8 lb as well... never gone up to 15 though, so i can't help you there. believe it or not, the walleye in my avatar was pulled up with the 4 lb line
  6. musky spawn in the spring... this was just caught a couple days ago.
  7. i also agree with the other statements, you should wait until you can afford it... i know, you want it NOW!!! but think about all the fishing gear that you could buy with that money!!! LOL. i will definitely get a mount of that walleye done at some point, but not yet... right now, i still get a warm fuzzy feeling inside every time i look at the pictures of that fish (and that was back in February). like i said, i will get the mount done, but only when i can burn that amount of money
  8. you can send them an e-mail and ask for a quote... send the picture as an attachment to the e-mail... they quoted the walleye in my avatar at $625... the measurements for that were 32 inch length and 22 inch girth.
  9. that is one angry lookin fish! would have liked to see a full body shot of that one! sounds like an awesome couple nights!
  10. forget the nets when musky fishing (unless you're fishing alone)... if you've ever used a cradle you'll know what i mean. the fish stays perfectly still once in the cradle... in a big net, not so much... they thrash around so much that is can be difficult to release the fish afterwards. $59 on a "fin saver" net, or $45-$55 on a cradle... I say get the cradle... plus it doesn't take up any space in the boat. just roll it up and stick in off to the side until needed.
  11. atta boy steve, nice looking smallies bud!
  12. seriously??? the salmon have been in the creeks since mid august. LOL. the next rain will definitely bring in a lot of fish though!
  13. funny that you bring this up now... i was up at Rice this past weekend for 4 days and our group had the exact same discussion... the relish cap... only juice comes out. LOL. as soon as i saw your topic i knew it was going to be about the relish cap. hahaha
  14. i've done plenty of over-nighters in the box of my truck (i have a cap on it)... put a mattress in there, bring a sleeping bag, and DONE!!! wake up at first light, launch the boat, and off we go!!!
  15. he is definitely talking about drop shot weights... if you're fishing in a lot of snags try the tie on weights, they may not come off as easily (as you've suggested)... i've never really tried drop shotting in a lot of current or snags for that matter, but it can't hurt to try the tie on method...
  16. well, during the summer months you can't go wrong with a big bucktail or marabou inline spinner (up to size 10 blades - at least that's what i've used). also big bucktail spinnerbaits will do the trick, and they are more weedless (Northland Bionic Bucktails are a decent choice). best colours that i've found are black/red or yellow/red. but now as the nights are getting colder, the fish are likely not in the same water that they inhabited in the summer months... they may be a little deeper, outside the weed edges even. Also, i'm not sure what you mean by: the Caesarea side is the deepest part of the lake... that one hole out from the launch is in the 20-25 foot depth... i'm not really sure what you're looking for though...
  17. there are 2 launches on the causeway for chemong... they are on the west side of the lake. one is on the north portion of the causeway, the other on the south. the south side launch is a concrete launch, the other dirt. i've launched on both sides, both are good.
  18. i don't use less than 50lb PP when frog fishing in slop/pads... some guys go up to 65 or even 80 lb braid depending on what they are using and what kind of cover they are fishing in. beauty largemouth by the way! congrats!
  19. try running it with the choke out... my buddy had this problem earlier in the year, ran it with the choke out for a bit, then it seemed to work fine after that... the problem kinda fixed itself... not saying that will happen for you, but it's worth a try.
  20. me and a buddy are heading to Stony this coming Sunday. it will be the first time fishing the lake for both of us. we need some direction to a decent launch, preferably a public launch that is free. there must be parking available also, as we are planning on staying there overnight (sleeping in the truck until first light). Thanks! g_f
  21. if you fish in cover that he is fishing with only 10 lb PP you're gonna lose a lot more than just a few fish... it's gonna be an expensive day in lost lures... notice the grass beds in the picture... in grass, weeds, pads, etc. i'm up at 50+ lb PP with my drag completely tight. i second the ugly stik comment... sure they're durable, but that's about all they're good for! at least you didn't get skunked! 1 fish is better than none!
  22. i'm not exactly sure what type of water your fishing, but you mentioned ponds/rivers... so i'm thinking maybe swampy type locations... if this is the case, the bigger fish are probably buried in THICK slop or thick pads. they want to get out of the sun as much as we do.
  23. thanks for sharing that... kinda wish i had that before i bought mine... i definitely should have gone with a 24V package with higher power.
