  1. i'm sure that unit would be just fine, but it's not a portable... you could, like someone mentioned, Macgyver something up as a suitable power source... but this particular model is one that you would mount to a boat and wire up to the boat's battery... unless there is a portable model that just isn't listed there... i've got a portable humminbird pirhanna, and while ice fishing it works fine... though, if it's a fairly cold day it doesn't read the transducer and just doesn't work at all (on the screen it will say "transducer not connected") and it won't read anything... also, if you're gonna go with a portable fish finder over a flasher (like a Vex or Marcum), here are a couple tips that will help you out... i'm sure the unit you pick up will be slightly different... i've got mine set up as follows... and again, this is for MY unit... yours may be different... 1. turn off the fish ID 2. turn up the sensitivity as high as possible 3. leave the "filter" option ON (if your unit has one) otherwise you'll get all kinds of garbage on the screen that you don't want 4. turn the chart speed to it's maximum speed setting, that way it is as close to "real" time as possible. good luck with your purchase! and if you have any more questions about fine tuning the settings, send me a pm, i'll try to help as much as possible.
  2. i know what you mean buddy... i needed help pulling my portable back up there yesterday... i thought i was gonna die! they need an escalator for that spot! i'll pitch in some $$$... anyone else??? LOL
  3. check out http://www.onthebog.com/ for all Scugog related information... Ice reports, fishing reports... everything you need BOG related!!! we have updated ice reports from locals around the lake!
  4. totally agree that they should have created a new band name. Axl is the ONLY original member, so they should have changed the name, and i would have preferred it because this CD is not a "GUNS AND ROSES" album... it is an AXL ROSE ALBUM... they might as well have gone back to the "Hollywood Rose" band name, because, like i said, this is NOT Guns N' Roses.
  5. For an album that took 14 years to put together... I'M NOT OVERLY IMPRESSED!!! apparently it is the most expensive album ever produced (Over $13 Million)! and it is over produced, obviously... way too polished for a rock album in my opinion, though i would loosely classify half of the songs as rock-ballads! The majority of the guitar solos are pure s#!t throughout most of the album... ever heard the expression "sometimes less is more"? obviously the band hasn't, and neither has their producers. their guitarists were clearly trying too hard to be as good or better than Slash, that some of the solos were just way too much. in the song "Better" (which has potential to be one of the follow-up singles - if they have other singles off the album) the solos sounds like a Nintendo game's audio effects... the last solo in the song isn't as bad, it actually suits the song, but the others ruin the song for me. i will give them props on the song "Streets of Dreams" though, that song is well written and has a great progressive build-up, and the solos actually sound good on that one - it is a very radio friendly rock-ballad that could be another single. the one song that really intrigued me was "This I Love" (another ballad) just because of Axl's singing style. it's unlike anything i've heard him do before. he goes back to his usual falsetto style with his usual overlaying vocal tracks later in the song however. it's not a BAD album, but 14 years of material should have produced better!
  6. just did mine last night! it was only $81.75 though... not sure what you got...
  7. for most applications in southern Ontario, 6Lb mono is a good all-around line... if you've got your drag set properly, you shouldn't have a problem bringing in even a big lake trout. i don't remember ever going over 8Lb mono for ice fishing, unless it's on a tip-up, then i'll go heavier. i'll go lighter than 6 if i know i'm only gonna catch perch or crappie.
  8. lol, good call! it's amazing how many people out there think music should be free... i'd like to see those people write a hit tune! LOL!!!
  9. it says, "Sets up in minutes..." but how many minutes??? if it's like any other tent, i'd say SEVERAL minutes! lol. i sure wouldn't pay over $100 for that... i'd rather sit on a bucket out on the open ice.
  10. hey bud, i never actually posted a report on this site about the time i caught that fish (twice) lol... so i guess it won't sound too familiar to most members here, lol. here's the pics though for everyone to see... October 6th... camera was dead, had to use the cell phone! October 7th... this time we had a working camera... both of my fish (more than likely the same fish) was caught in the same spot, on the same lure, and both were the same size as the fish that Laker caught (also more than likely the same fish that i caught... lol). so now you all know the full story behind this truly stupid, yet amazing fish! lol!
  11. here's a 28 incher from Chemong... 6Lb 14ozs (on a digital scale)... roughly the same length as yours... yours looks a little fatter however... so definitely over 7Lbs and probably pushing 8... NICE FISH!!!
  12. awesome fish guys! i wish i could get a weekend off so i could get out there with ya! work is always cutting into my fishing time... it's not fair!

A VERY nice picture of an otherwise VERY dirty city!
  14. Suspending Jerk Baits would be right near the top of my list!
  15. i've used the dark green stuff in 6# test, and that stuff is TOUGH! i can't imagine 25#, must be damn near rope material! LOL!
  16. how the heck did a tiny little musky like that get a spinnerbait in that deep? unless it was one of those micro sized spinnerbaits...
  17. i was there today, didn't notice anything advertised... not saying there wasn't anything, just didn't notice.
  18. oh man, they gonna tank this year! anyone want a good laugh... take a look at the team roster for this season... http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/team/app?service...amp;type=roster by the way... Antropov is our top Center LOL. I think we're the top runner for the number 1 pick for next year's draft!
  19. if that's all you're doing, you'll probably end up keeping it a lot longer than you think... toyotas are hard to kill... the body will go before the working parts. i just bought a 99 tercel, it's only got 140,000 kms on it... i'll be driving that car for years...
  20. thanks a lot guys... i'm sure one of those will work out!
  21. CT in ajax had both of those, on sale no less ($3 a piece), just a week ago... only one or two of each, so their probably gone now.
  22. does anybody know where i could buy quality replacement treble hooks in bulk? like by the hundred... or more... must be quality hooks though, like excaliber rotating trebles, as an example... or whatever... i'm looking to replace most (or all) of the factory hooks on my crankbaits. buying in packages of 12 isn't very convenient, or cost effective...
  23. i wish you said sunday... i'm working saturday unfortunately... stupid work always getting in the way of fishing...
  24. keep an eye on the weather if you're gonna be fishing in a canoe... that lake can pick up really quick with an east or west wind. good luck!
