  1. agreed! you wont regret that decision at all! and if you don't want t6o go that far, Simcoe would be your best bet. I love ice fishing scugog, but i would never rent a hut there... it's not worth it in my opinion. i've got a hand auger, and i'm on good fishing grounds within a 5 minute walk... no need to rent a hut in that situation. besides... the best fishing times on scugog are 1 hour before dark through to one hour after dark... then there is a decent morning bite... but other than that... you'll be getting mostly dink perch for the rest of the day...
  2. hey hey... look who finally joined OFC... hahaha. I've been telling Laker about this site for MONTHS... you had enough of FishOntario bud??? LOL and for posting the pictures... when you're in there typing up your report, use the "insert image" button (which is under the Font drop menu), the button has a picture of the sun setting behind some hills... when you click on that a window will pop up... take the "Direct Link" from your Photobucket picture and paste it into the text box in that window... then press "ok"... that SHOULD work
  3. it's a panfish, and not even mentioned in the regs... no limit!
  4. atta boy! you still going to school in Lindsay? if so we should hit scugog a few times this winter! i've got couple good spots GPS'd, and i'm picking up a 2-man portable hut this year too! let me know bud!
  5. from what i've read, there's only a 2% survival rate on the salmon spawn in the Lake O tribs (approximate number of course)... if they stopped stocking... there will not be very many fish coming into the streams... but from the year they had on the lake this year, you would think the run would be pretty good, with a lot of big fish entering the rivers... the Great Ontario Salmon Derby had a lot of 30+ fish weighed in, last year there was only a couple fish that broke 30... maybe the main run is just late this year... i mean, it hasn't really been that cold yet, and we haven't had much rain since the beginning of August...
  6. took a walk up duffin's creek from church st. and saw nothing right up to the dam.
  7. that's fairly common especially in the kawarthas i've found, i was told that they are a tiny parasite, don't quote me on it though... also, perch spawn in the spring...so that's definitely not it. on Dalrymple i've caught pike with that as well. i'm sure someone else will have more info on this...
  8. that makes perfect sense to me... but who am I? I don't work for the government or the gas companies...
  9. i've caught lots of smallies with crayfish, but no trout...
  10. i know exactly how that is, this past May for the pike/walleye opener on West Lake i caught a decent pike on my first cast, then an OOS bass on my next cast, then nothing for the rest of the night! congrats on the salmon. i'll be out somewhere casting Cleos for them tomorrow night! wish me luck!
  11. that's what the resort owner has been calling them for the last couple years... pm sent
  12. Well, I'm back from my annual trip to Rice Lake. this was my 15th year for this trip (i've been going since i was 8 years old)... Had a great time as usual. we didn't get as many big fish as we usually do, but the numbers were definitely still there. we got to the pinecrest resort at about 1pm on saturday and started unloading the car and getting the fishing gear all set up. i didn't take any pictures on the saturday, but we caught between 15 and 20 smallmouth bass between the 5 of us. we actually had 3 fish in the boat within the first 20 minutes of fishing. biggest fish was 2Lb 12ozs Sunday, again, i didn't take any pictures but we brought the smallmouth tally up to about 50 for the group, i got about half of them... but the biggest one i got was only 2Lb 4ozs. on sunday night my boat ran out of bait (the secret magical bait - that can't be bought in stores anymore...) so we had to change our game plan... so, monday morning me and my dad went out for some Largemouths instead while the other boat used the last of their smallie bait... Last year was the first year we actually caught any Largemouths while on this trip, mainly because we usually just focus on the smallies... we decided to toss senkos along weedlines and under fallen trees... i got 6 decent largemouths and my dad got 4, plus one small smallie. here's a couple of mine... the bigger one (second pic) is 2Lb 6ozs... ended up being my biggest fish for the weekend... me and my dad met up with the other guys and they had added 3 more smallies to the tally... and these ones were a bit bigger too, around the 3 pound mark. around noon a cold front moved through, it started raining pretty good, and the wind picked up big time, so we got a bit of a late start to the afternoon/evening fish and didn't get back out until about 5pm... tried for some more largies, but they were nowhere to be found. we decided to hit the deeper water and try for the elusive walleye... after about an hour of drifting, my brother hooks into a nice fish... 3Lb 1oz, that fish turned out to be the biggest of the weekend... and for that he got to bring home the "DANNO AWARD" The trophy is in memory of our good buddy Dan, he came on this trip with us every year. last year was his last year with us. he died of cancer just 2 months after the trip last year. he was only 43 years old. so i made up that trophy to present to the biggest fish of the weekend for this year, and for future years. we didn't get out fishing tuesday morning because it was too windy and it was freezing cold out... but all in all it was a great weekend... can't wait till next year! lol.
  13. the 2500 size reels don't hold a lot of line... you'd be pushing your luck with that one... you'd be safer with a 4000 series reel. not saying you can't land one with a 2500... but those fish can take 100 feet of line in seconds...
  14. twas a great morning... probably got between 35 and 40 bass between us.. a lot were small, but still fun pulling them out of the thick stuff! It was nice meeting you Jeff, and i can't wait to do it again sometime!
  15. how about a decent spinnerbait (terminator titanium)... white, yellow, or black are always good colours...
  16. Miller Lake is decent, you'll get pike walleye and bass in there!
  17. that would make sense! and that is definitely a poor showing for India... not that India has ever done very well at the olympics... i just looked up their history and the most medals they have ever won in a single year is 2!
  18. are you fishing the big lake, or one of the inland lakes in the area?
  19. doesn't quite compare to the US's 79, but not bad for a country that focuses on mostly winter sports i guess. lol.
  20. No, no, no.... Beer drinking, BBQing, and Donut eating!
  21. hahaha, that last salmon was the hardest fighting out of all of them!
  22. that's a nice lookin little muskie, great markings on it... spots and bars... really cool!
  23. I met up with fishindevil at the Tim Horton's in Bowmanville at 5am... It was pissing down rain, and there was some pretty good lightening action too... but we waited it out and hit the water at about 6am. got the riggers set up, then got the dipsies set up after that... before we could get the second dipsy line in the water the other dipsy went off... FISH ON!!! my first open water salmon!!! a good start i'd say lol we both left our scales in our cars, but we figured it to be around 25 pounds. next it was fishindevil's turn... this time on the other dipsy rod... less than 20 minutes after the last fish. then less than half an hour later, another hit the dipsy... then we trolled, and trolled, and trolled some more... just before we decided to pack up, we started marking some fish that seemed interested in our rigger lines, but just wouldn't commit... here's a fish that went from one rigger to the next, but just wouldn't bite... finally after marking a bunch of fish, we hit one on the rigger... a very dark female... looks like they are starting to get ready to enter the rivers pretty soon. we went 4 for 4 for the morning! all fish were caught between 77 and 110 fow Thanks again Shawn! I had a great time out there and i learned A LOT! can't wait to get out there again!
