  1. Trim the motor up as high as it will go and see what happens. It might take a little longer to get up on plane, but will keep the bow up as well. I still don't think a prop will make you happy, although by the sounds of it, yours is in pretty rough shape. Pics would really help. S
  2. Caught a condom in oshawa creek one time. It must have been caught up in one of the shopping carts. I cut the line quick on that one! S.
  3. Btw......opener was weeks ago. You should all have this sorted out by now
  4. Do you have it trimmed up as high as I will go now? I don't think a prop is going to do what you want. S.
  5. I'm not sure your going to see much improvement with a prop change on a 65hp. I'd say your way over powered. Try shifting your load around first. S.
  6. Such an important thing that many overlook! S.
  7. For me its not so much where, but by what. Blackfly bites don't itch me too bad for some reason, skitters itch but go away quick. A deerfly bite on the toes has to be the worste. Especially once your back to work, and have to wear safety shoes/boots. Pretty hard to scratch those ones! S.
  8. Nice work Pete! That tiger is awesome! Those are my all time favourite days for musky......eyes too. Use the wind, don't fight it S.
  9. I know nothing about erie, but I heard there were some eyes getting caught off point peelee. S.
  10. Eyes were on fire on friday evening on rice, but saturday it was tough. We still managed a 2 man limit of keepers, but had to work for them. I haven't seen a musky there yet though. S.
  11. Bobogo, that rod is fine. Spool it up with 20lb braid, and rip away. I like the schmitty jigs, but haven't tried Big Jims. I'm sure they're great if they're made by the big guy! I use a 3/8 oz jig on a med/fast rod and just like described, throw it in the weeds and rip it straight up. I tend to keep my casts short, and never take your eye off your line. 99% of your hits will be on the drop, so if you miss the tick on your line, you will miss a lot of hits. Black/yellow, black/chartreuse, and black/perch are my favourite colours. Good luck, and keep atter, this technique definitly works well, especially on days when its bright, and calm! Those days the eyes are buried in the weeds. Cloudy, windy days, I'll troll harnesses and do better. I think the bright calm days they hide further into the weeds, and cloudy, windy days they hang out closer to the edges, and are more willing to chase down a harness, or jerk bait. S.
  12. I've owned the same boat for 20yrs. Never used a transom saver, and I tow with my motor tilted all the way up. I think you'll be fine! S.
  13. Should still be able to pick up lakers flatlining deep diving cranks. My go to is a TD9 taildancer. Let out a cast, and 3-5 good rips of line and you'll be down 15-20ft. If that doesn't work, go bigger to get deeper. I've caught piles of lakers on. The #7 tail dancers as well. They only get down 15ft if your lucky! S.
  14. Yep, they still are!
  15. I'm a lowrance guy, but only because that's what I've always used, so I'm familiar with them. I think for a mid range gps/graph combo, the elite 5 DSI is tough to beat. It does everything I want it to do. It really depends. What you want to spend, and what you need it to do. As for detail, that will all be decided by the map chip you put in it. The chip you choose will depend on where you fish most. S.
  16. Yep, they're toast. Good ole trent severn waterway. They have the biggest impact on our fisheries. Some years they do great, other years they are responsible for a complete loss of a year class. That said, I've been getting big bass on deep weed edges fishing walleye, so maybe they're done and gone. I dunno, I'm no bass guy. S.
  17. I don't see any need for electric start on a 25hp engine. I have a manual start 40hp, and my 11 year old son can start it up no problem. It helps if you maintain it, and have it running good. I'd just get a small 7Ah gell battery to run the graph. It will run a graph all day no problem. You'll need a battery charger, but its a lot better than hauling around a 75lb deep cycle. S.
  18. I once dropped a bullhead in the bilge of my boat, by accident. It flipped its way so far up under the floor, I couldn't reach it. I figured I'd get it out at home with a long stick or something. Well, I forgot about it. A week or so later I'm fishing again, and all of a sudden there's a racket under the floor of the boat. That catfish lived in there for a full week, in millimetres of water, in the heat of summer. It blew my mind! I got it out and released it!! S.
  19. Good stuff boys! Looks like a fun day for sure! Let's hear some details......how deep? How far down? What colours? Spoons? Flies? Dipsies? Riggers? Sooo many questions S.
  20. Any electrical supply store, sail, BPS, Lebarons......they all have them. Usually around $25. S.
  21. He's talking paudash island, on rice, Shawn. S.
  22. Good luuck boys! I hope ya slay 'em! S.
  23. Ya, the lines are filled with glycol, so they won't freeze. From what I hear, they're pretty good unit. I haven't heard any horror stories, care to share what you've heard? If your going to be burning wood regardless, its the way to go IMO. S.
  24. I'd be proudly displaying them somewhere that everyone could see them! S.
  25. I troll harnesses. Almost exclusively for eyes, and NEVER run a bottom bouncer. The only time I do run one, is in water over 20ft deep. I generally troll 10-12ft water, and just use an egg weight. (1/8 - 3/8oz depending on depth/speed) I find the bottom bouncers just catch weeds, and the egg weight tends to sneak thru them better. I also shorten my harnesses. 18-24" works best for me. This set up works great in the kawarthas. I use the least amount of weight I can get away with, and adjust my length of line out until. I'm contacting bottom. I troll anywhere from 1-1.8mph, but try to stick around 1.3-1.5 for the most part. S.
