  1. Take the whole two weeks and get to NFLD. If your heading up the northern peninsula, check out gros morne, then continue north to Lanse aux meadows. If you get that far north, I'll get my old man to take you in for a proper feed, and a boat ride. He loves entertaining Lanse aux meadows is a site to see, and the scennery going up the northern pen is like nowhere else. S.
  2. Congrats Simon! S.
  3. I use an oil stone if its really bad, but I steel them every time I use them. The ceramic plate works good, and the edge of a stainless steel sink can hone one up in a pinch too. I always have/will use the rapala knives. They work well, and they're fairly easy to sharpen. S.
  4. Your probably best to get a place in port hope, Roy. Not much in newcastle. Good luck! S.
  5. I don't like those big stingrays he pulls out of nasty, dirty waters. I'm ok with lampreys, but those rays are gross! S.
  6. Yeah, I've had the new episodes on, but didn't really get into them. They were just kind of on as background noise. S.
  7. I've never stayed at green acres, but its a great area for fishing, and close to Gannons narrows if you want to head into chemong or buckhorn. Its only about 10 mins from bobcaygeon as well. Good location for sure. Sandbar is just north of the park for the kids, or if you just want to play in the sun. Pm if u go and I can share some info. I've fished that area a lot. S.
  8. Frawlsmaster has given you some great info S.
  9. I think our weather is just getting more and more unpredictable. One extreme to the other. These winds are driving me nuts! Seems like non stop wind, no matter what the forcast. S.
  10. Cool vid justin! Cute little buggers! Do you think your presence around the den may have anything to do with the move? I've seen some very social foxes, but I would think these ones are pretty "wild" up there in the park? We used to fish a creek for rainbows at night a lot years ago. At one pool we always fished there was a fox who would show up looking for snacks from us. pretty neat critters, and very social. S
  11. Does it really matter where anyone is from? I don't understand the question? S.
  12. 4 of us fished rice on saturday. The wind was brutal, but we still put lots of eyes in the boat. Kids had a blast! Fish are still kind of transitioning from river to main lake weed edges, but if you slow down and stick to the deep weed edges its not hard to catch a bunch of fish! S.
  13. Boy, that's pretty tempting! I might just launch and follow you guys around! Lol I'm only 20 mins from newcastle, but can't justify spending a hundred bucks when I can go out on my own for less than half that! I'm sure you guys will have a blast tho! Maybe I'll come by and heckle yas back on shore. I've never met any of ya's! S.
  14. Nice work guys! I love those taildancers too! I usually cast them off weed edges. The nice thing with them is when you hit a weed, you just stop reeling, and 90% of the time the lure will float itself off. Glow chub in #7 or 9 are my go to. They're killer on spring lakers too! S.
  15. There is stilll an active pigeon club in ON. I have a friend who is very active with racing pigeons. I don't know a lot about it, but its interesting to be around when they are coming back to the coup. Basically they hire a transprt truck to drive them to a determined release point. At a predetermined time, they are released. When they return to the coup, they put the band in a stamp clock to see how long it takes. (That's a very brief description) its amazing how far they will travel in a short time. A lot of the releases are north of north bay, and the birds are home before dark. Fastest bird wins. S.
  16. I haven't been over there Lew, but I've never seen it still not in at this point in the season. S.
  17. I run big game on the riggers too. For ultra light pannies I've been using P-line Fluoroclear. Good stuff! I use braid for just about everything else. S. S.
  18. Very cool birds. Nice to see your boxes worked! Great photos! S.
  19. Rem 870 combo, with 3 barrels for less thaan $600 right now. That's a smoothbore shot barrel, rifled cantilever barrel, and short turkey barrel with turkey choke. That will hunt anything in canada. S.
  20. Ya, I'd say trout/ salmon are your best bet if you want something similar to tuna. Mackeral and herring are very close when canned as well. S.
  21. Its nice to see you getting out Beansie! S.
  22. I oil all my guns after every use, but yah, the express 870's with the matte finish rust just thinking about getting wet. Mine has rust all over....just how she goes. It still goes bang every time. Get a camo model, they hold up a lot better to rust, or just oil it down every time. Wingmasters are a much finer gun, for sure. S.
  23. 90% of police forces don't use 870's because they're crap......that's a bold statement NAW. Its a personal choice. I've seen them all fail, top of the line semis turned into single shots, pumps that won't cycle properly etc. My 870 has never let me down, but some people do complain about them. I think they just baby them too much myself. You gotta beat on them to break them in. Any gun will rust if you don't take care of it. A bit of rust adds character anyways I'm an 870 guy thru and thru. I shoot a lot of shells in a season, and haven't been let down yet. I've seen the super nova fail, I've seen the mossberg literally fall apart, and I had a winchester that never worked right from brand new. Many times I've had guys with semis in a muddy field cursing their fancy guns, while the 870 guys pound away, dirt and all. Lots of add ons and options for the 870's as well. In the end, its your choice. Point a few and see what feels best. If you have friends with guns, see if you can shoot a few and decide from there. S.
  24. Lighter or a cigarette works for me. I like to melt the tag end so it will never slip thru if I tie a weak knot too. S.
  25. I'm an 870 fan myself. Been shooting them forever, and have no complaints. They take a beating, and always go bang. S.
