On most tournament circuits that I fish, it's who isn't using a Ned Rig, very effective presentation!

Do you recycle your plastic baits?
David Chong replied to steverowbotham's topic in General Discussion
Great way to experiment and try something new plus help the environment! -
Catalina Bay Resort is where we've launched in the past! Check out the Navionics web app or the Navionics app on your phone or tablet and you'll see quite a number of fishing spots shared by the Navionics community! A fair number of them are spots that I've fished on Big Bald Lake! Best of luck!

Always respect lakes you are unfamiliar with (NF)
David Chong replied to Acountdeleted's topic in General Discussion
Never assume anything even on bodies of water that you think that you know. We spend lots of time studying new bodies of water on the Navionics web app or Navionics app on our phones & tablets before ever heading out on them. When on the water, we follow the mapping on the Garmin LakeVu chip or the Navionics chip on my partners' boats. Even then respect any "iffy" areas, it'll save you a lower unit. Be safe out there! -
Trying to improve on Balsam this year
David Chong replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Balsam Lake is an excellent lake for topwatering for bass. But my favourite presentation has to be jerkbaiting as you can almost every fish species in the lake. -
If you want the most out of the trolling motor & i-Pilot then you're going to have to go with Humminbird. As long as the unit is compatible with the i-Pilot and can take a Navionics+ card, then you should be good to go!

Any decent dealer should take care of this for you!

Z man jigs and NED rigs---anyone tried these?
David Chong replied to SirCranksalot's topic in General Discussion
Similar, if not the same! You definitely don't want to mix an ElaZtech plastics with any other type of plastic. You also don't want to put them in a Plano-type box, just keep them in the original package. Don't put a used one back in either but they last so long, not sure why you would have to. LOL I sort my Z-Man plastics in Bass Mafia Money Bags, one for my dropshot baits, one for my punch baits, etc. -
Thanks grimsbylander! Need all the luck that I can get, hasn't been a great year so far! Unfortunately too busy to get much pre-fish in, but we're working on it! LOL

Z man jigs and NED rigs---anyone tried these?
David Chong replied to SirCranksalot's topic in General Discussion
The Ned Rig is not just half a Senko on a jighead. The Ned Rig involves a Z-Man TRD bait which is made of ElaZtech which is extremely buoyant, soft & supple. Rigged on a ShroomZ jighead this property enables the bait to stand straight up and quiver off the bottom. Watch this video and you'll see the difference! https://zmanfishing.com/cms/zman_tv.php -
The new Z-Man TRD CrawZ is awesome, I'm going to post a video on my David Chong- Fishing Personality FB page shortly!

Need a store for mail order fishing gear/lures.

In Canada try www.fishingtacklestore.ca new site but some interesting products on it! -
Not easy to fish a jerkbait properly out of a kayak unless you can stand up in it! Some of the hotter Smallmouth presentations nowadays are: 1/ Ned Rig (Z-Man Finesse T.R.D. on a Shroomz head) 2/ Neko Rig (Daiwa Neko Bait with an Ultra Tungsten Nail Weight on an Owner Wacky or Neko hook.) 3/ Swimbait (Rigged on a Football jig or a Swim Jig) 4/ Spybaits 5/ Ultra Tungsten T-Blade (Compact Tungsten Spinnerbait) Good luck!

Have you used a whopper plopper style lure?
David Chong replied to OhioFisherman's topic in General Discussion
They have their place and time! Very popular in the Mid-West, still prefer a walking style bait like a LC Sammy or Yo-Zuri Pencil. On bodies of water where there is a good schooling shad bite, they are every effective. -
I wear a pair of Crocs for most of the summer, only days that I don't are on rainy cool days when I wear my Gore-Tex boots. Besides the leopard feet that you get from wearing Crocs are great conversation starters, girls really dig'em!

Great report! Nice greasers!

Huge thanks & kudos to you for making it out to this year's event, oldphart! Glad that you got your boat issues figured out! Sorry that we ran out of kids, unfortunately we had 8 matches not show up. There are over 300 pics of the event provided by Peter Yeung, please check them out on & like our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/CatchADreamKidsFishingDerby/ More info about the event can be found on our website as well, www.catchadream.ca This was the 13th annual "Catch a Dream!" Kids Fishing Derby and is held in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters & the "Make A Wish!" Foundation! This year's event was a great success as has been our previous 12 events! Special thanks to all the boaters, volunteers & sponsors who make this event a possibility! As for Ontario Parks and Sibbald Point Provincial Park, we have held this event there for 7 out of the 13 years. Other than our first year in 2005, we have paid a nominal fee for the use of the park for this very worthwhile event! Although we negotiated a lower fee for this year's event, they want to revert to the normal daily fee per vehicle for next year's event. At a minimum of 250 vehicles at $14 each, that is a total of $3,500.00 this is a amount that we can not justify paying a government agency who apparently has a mandate to get more kids fishing! We will be forced to find a more reasonable site to hold this amazing event next year. Feel free to offer suggestions!

Looks like you made the best of it! Timing & weather is key for those Detroit River Walleye!

I've owned the Simms ProDry, BPS Pro Qualifier, BPS 100MPH & Cabela's GuideWear. They're all good but the best rainsuit that I've ever owned is my Simms ProDry!

Guntersville is a great choice for a fishing holiday! Make sure that you have your boat registration with you and check with your insurance company about your coverage south of the border! As for places to stay I would definitely go to the State Park amazing facility! There are also launches all over the lake, often 2 ramps at every bridge and better yet they're free! The forage is substantial as Garnet stated so don't be afraid to throw large baits! Good luck & enjoy your trip!

Great summary Steve!
