I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Karl Kalonka and the other members of Team-X from Extreme Angler TV. I really relished the opportunity to work with this group of true professionals. I enjoyed the 2007 filming season immensely. This last year has been a year of change for my family and I. Recently, I have decided to pursue a career change and in order to chase that dream properly I unfortunately must resign as a member of Team-X. I have seen some previews of Extreme Angler TV shows for the 2008 television season and I’m positive that all will be impressed. I hope that everyone enjoys the work that I did with EATV last season. I wish Karl, Mark, Bob & Dave absolutely nothing but success in the future! The foundation is there and strong. I’m sure that our paths will cross once again and I look forward to it. “It was a pleasure working with Dave this past season”, stated Extreme Angler TV show host Karl Kalonka. His passion and commitment to the great outdoors and fishing is second to none. I’m sure our viewers will enjoy the high-energy segments Dave was able to film this past season, not to mention the really big bass we caught on camera! On behalf of me and the rest of the Team-X members we wish Dave nothing but the best of luck and success in his new venture and our door will always be open to Dave Chong. Fish Hard! Dream Big! Brian, he actually tried that LOL we had to reel him in a bit! It was a fun day especially with it snowing outside all day long! Dave -
It seems like you got the right advice! Been using Ram mounts for probablt 15 years now between the photography and fishing sides. They've been solid for me but as others have warned you, don't get the little ball! Good luck! Dave

Thanks Mark, Great reply! We do spend a great deal of time on these presentations, in fact I'm still working and tweaking mine right now! We keep the topic at the Bass Talk seminar sessions very specific and detailed. Many past attendees have told us that it's the best $75.00 they've ever spent on fishing. We are very proud of the fact that we have raised close to $10,000.00 for Dave Mercer's "Casting For A Cure!" and the "Catch A Dream!" Kids Derby over the last couple of years! Mark, you know that Dana's and my thoughts are with you and your family at this trying time! I look forward to seeing you tomorrow! Dave -

Congrats on the new ride! You'll love the Ranger! Greg & his staff at DT Power Sports are awesome! Cheers, Dave -
Tom, It's good to see that you're getting better! At least well enough to post on this chat board! The Canadian Bass Anglers Federation(an OFAH affiliated organization) is definitely growing as is our chapter at the Bass Pro Shops. We have a nice mix of veterans, rookies, pros, average joes, young up & comers in our club. Every meeting we have informative sessions with knowledgeable pros, hold club tournaments and help with kids events. Feel free to drop in as a guest we meet on the first Tues. of each month in the BPS training room. PM me if you have any other questions! Cheers, Dave

Absolutely awesome! It's unfortunate that it's the exception rather than the rule but you have to start somewhere! Good on you, Rick! Cheers & Happy Holiday, Dave

Mark, It wasn't cold at all, oh sorry that was afterwards at that waterfront restaurant! Some warm grub sure takes that chill off! At least you got some nice pictures! It would appear as though we'll be ice-fishing in no time. Cheers, Dave (Another crazy one who was out there, we only caught 6 fish) Here's Alvin holding one of them!

Good job! Glad that you were able to put what we told you into action! We were back out today! Fishing was okay! Here is pic of Spags & his friend! Cheers, Dave

All of my fish came on a new colour from Mizmo called Purple Goby! It has been working great on most large bodies of water for Smallies, Erie, Simcoe & Ontario. Purple Oyl has been a favourite of mine for years but now that Mark & Karl have discovered it ... Fireline or 100% Flourocarbon is another key elemeent is fishing at these depths. Cheers, Dave

It's about as EXTREEEEME as our southern friends can imagine! It was a blast none the less and the last tip is by far the most important. Catch fish and you won't even notice that it is cold out! Cheers, Dave

It's another beautiful painting! Great job! Dave

Doug & Dax, It was my pleasure! Nice to meet some fellow OFC'ers, thanks for the business! I'll help out OFC'ers with any camera purchases whenever possible! Cheers, Dave

My sincere condolences on your Grandfather's passing, as long as you fish his memory will stay alive! Congratulations on 25 years of wedded bliss! Keep on trucking! Dave

What's wrong with Grenadier Pond? I grew up in the High Park area and spend many days cycling down to and fishing Grenadier Pond. Over the years we've caught Large & Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Black Crappies, Yellow Perch, Bluegills, Pumpkinseeds, Brown Bullheads, Common Carp and even Glizzard Shad. Great fishing area especially in the middle of Toronto! I still like to get down there and walk around. Cheers, Dave

THANK YOU TO ALL OFNer's who attended and supported the BASS TALK 2007 seminar sessions! Thanks to all who entered our contest, I trust that Ann and David enjoyed themselves at the Humminbird Bass Talk held at Fishing World in Hamilton. It was nice to meet you if ever so briefly. In the end we raised a total of $6790.00 that will divided amongst Dave Mercer's "Casting For a Cure!" campaign for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters "Take A Kid Fishing" Event being held June 23rd in the beautiful town of Orillia. Thank you to Doug Brownridge(The founder of Bass Talk), Melanie Frost(Bass Talk's Event Coordinator), Harrison Sillen(Bass Talk's IT & AV Guru), Chris Tieber(Bass Talk Roadie), the emcees, all the lecturers, the hosts, sponsors and attendees. It was a great year, we look forward to an even bigger and better year in 2008. In order to make things even better we would appreciate any feedback/suggestions that anyone in the OFC community might have. E.G. Would there be interest in a "Walleye Talk" or a multi-species session? Thanks in advance for your input! Dave Chong

Humminbird actually has a few units that offer this technology. The most economical being the 797c2 SI at about $1200 yes, it is not cheap and yes, it is just a tool but what a tool! SET HARD! SET OFTEN! Dave
-
Today's Side Imaging from Humminbird is totally different from previous Side Finder units! Please check out these images that were taken by Derek Strub!
-
Humminbird has come a long way from the early days. I've personally used a Side Imaging Humminbird since 2005 and it is a fantastic tool! It cuts down the amount of time looking for insolated cover, it works in shallow and deep water. The imaging is unbelievable I'll see if I can get a image of a wreck on Lake Erie from Derek Strub to post. But like everything else it is only a tool much like your sonar, you still have to catch the fish! Dave

Another issue with NiMH rechargeables is that they don't hold their charge as well as lithium-ion batteries! Keep your batteries on your charger until just before you use them! If you charge them and take them off the charger they start draining. Lithium batteries are the longest lasting of the non-rechargeable battery types. Good luck! Dave
