Supposedly a guide described as "Laz" (maybe Mike Lazarus?) got a 58.5 pound musky and it was weighed on an IGFA certified scale.... And supposedly its a new record...

Photobucket isn't working so I can't post the pic I have... But it looks like a lelease shot with a hand on her belly... The fish is big enough to make the mans hand look like a child's....

Anyone know anything about this???

Uncut Angling

HIGH 5!!!! Make that fifty eight point 5. Pounds. This is what it looks like to high-five a WORLD RECORD MUSKY! This 58.5 pound fish is the largest musky caught this year, in recent memory, and (depending who you ask) possibly EVER. Guided by close friend and musky superpower "Laz", client Ed Barbosa (a seasoned trophy muskyman) caught this historic fish and weighed it on an IGFA certified scale t...o take all doubt from the guesswork that surrounds most catches approaching this caliber. Musky Hunter, the authority on musky fishing in print, television, and online will have the full story and photos very soon. Here is a glimpse for you now of the most incredible catch of 2012. Happy New Year from Uncut Angling!!!! #Released #CatchAndCatchAgain

Always thought that my ultimate fishing adventure would be to spend a week in December fishing with Mike Lazurus around there.

This guy is hardcore into getting the biggest muskies in the world(which are around Montreal).

This fish he caught back 15 yrs. ago or so was 58.5 inches and the biggest musky seen.

The head on it is way bigger than Ed Barboa's head.LOL

Anothergiant for Laz and Barbosa. As for catch and release record... Well there is no such thing. Very few guys carry a certifiable scale on their boat , and length and girth formulas are a joke. I wouldnt doubt if it could be a record of some sort, as Laz is the best of the best, and has caught many giants. Unfortunately, a fish has to be killed for it to be a true record.

Oh you have got to see the pic

58-Pounder -- Weighed & Released -- On The St. Lawrence

Ed Barbosa of Meaford, Ontario, is no stranger to giant muskies being a regular customer of guide Mike Lazarus. At last light on December 10, he did it again.

Fishing with Lazarus on the St. Lawrence River, Barbosa caught and released a musky measuring 54 3/4 inches with a 30 1/2-inch girth (measured both in the boat and in the water). On an IGFA certified scale and witnessed by three anglers, the fish weighed over 58 pounds.

“The 58 never went away and the 60 never showed!,” Lazarus told Musky Hunter. At the time of weighing, Lazarus’ boat was in two feet of water in an area of no wind, so there was no scale movement.

The fish struck a Legend Perchbait.

“It was so fat it didnt look like a 50-incher in the net,” Lazarus said. “When put on its stomach, it did not roll over. It looked like a seal!”

Lazarus told Musky Hunter that he had his scale double-checked and recertified by the IGFA on December 31 and "it was A-1."

Photo cutline: Ed Barbosa hefts his 58-pound musky prior to release.
