Hi Y'all,

Did not get out fishing today, we're at minus 28*C daytime here....with upto 50-60 kmh wind gusts, so i spent the day setting up my newest toy...a three man Otter Team Wild flip up shelter.

GOT THE RUNNER KIT TO SAVE WEAR AND TEAR

THE SQUARE POLES MAKE IT REALLY STURDY AND STRONG

IMG_2487.jpg

I LIKE THE BENCH SEAT....LESS RESTRICTIVE THAN THE CLAM OR FRABILL BUCKET SEATS EVEN IF THE LATTER ARE MORE COMFORTABLE....BUT THE BENCH IS NOT UNCOMORTABLE

IMG_2489.jpg

THE TENT FABRIC IS NOT AS THICK AS THE CLAM ICE ARMOR, OR THE FRABILL, BUT ITS 8" LONGER AT THE FRONT THAN ITS EQUIVALENT IN THE OTHER BRANDS

IMG_2491.jpg

LOADS OF ROOM IN HERE!!!!

IMG_2493.jpg

FOLDS NEATLY AWAY AND TAKES 30 SECONDS TO FLIP UP!

IMG_2494.jpg

CAME WITH A GOOD COVER THAT FITS REALLY TIGHT, AND I"LL BE ABLE TO PACK EVERYTHING I NEED INCLUDING THE KITCHEN SINK!

IMG_2495.jpg

WHAT REALLY CLINCHED IT FOR ME WAS THE SLED CONSTRUCTION, THICKER MOULDED PLASTIC, 20" DEEP, NICE FAT STEEP WEDGE FRONT, PIVOTING TOWBAR WITH SHOCK SPRING AT THE HITCH END

Well i cant really give it a review cuz i aint got it out yet. It was a bit of a trade off when it came to tent quality, but becuse this will be my only towing sled for the snowmachine....i really thought it was better to go with the one that had the best sled design, and this one outdid the Frabills and Clams by a million miles.

I have read the posts about other flip ups and realise that the bench is not to everyones taste, but after spending 2 days in Winnipeg sitting in over 10 different shelters in 4 different stores.....i did not have a problem with them....in fact i prefer the bench seating, it is not as comfy as the bucket seats....but its not uncomfortable and gives more seating manoeverability.

Cant wait to get out in it...maybe next weekend on Shoal Lake for whities.

WOW Simon -28C daytime..... man that's cold enough to stay put inside and wait it out  Here in Gatineau was -28C overnight a couple of days ago and now going up tp +9C tomorrow.... freezing rain and rain :wallbash::wacko:

You got yourself a nice sled..... I call this the cadillac of shelters, WTG :clapping:

I'm sure that it will serve it's purpose and that you'll be real comfy in it :Gonefishing:

Looks real well constructed and better yet folds and unfolds easily :thumbsup_anim:

Now go out and get those whities that you talked about :whistling:

Will be keeping an eye out for your report

Is that the union supervisor in Pic #1, can't see any tools in his hand(paws), and #2 must be the inspector on tightening those hyfax nuts & bolts. I took another look at the 2 man Wild hut at B Pro today, the difference in the material is not all that much, I like the fold up bench too.

Looks like an excellent setup to me Simon!!! :thumbsup_anim::Gonefishing:

The advantage of that bench seat is you can stretch out on it and take a nap when the fish aren't biting!

Looking forward to the warm reports in that frigid weather Bubba!!! :canadian:

Simon, no worries, your sled will pull it just fine. And most times, you will not even feel it behind you unless you are going over a bumpy portage trail. I own an 8 ft. long Equinox Trail Boggan, thing probably weighs almost 100 lbs. loaded with all our crap, and it tows no problem behind my aged 1990 Yamaha Enticer ET400T.

That shock hitch is great, my sleigh has one also.

Hey Limey!

Check out this modded Otter, it's a little smaller than yours, but some pretty cool ideas.

Rob

Hey Rob....thats fantastic!

I have not had my sled/shelter out yet...lol...but the hamster wheel has been turning since the drive home from the shop....and before that even.

I experienced the wholeminnow thing last year a couple of times with the basic fibreglass trappers sled i used....not very good start to the day to find 3 or 4 dozen prime sucker and dace minnows frozen solid to the bottom of your sled! But as the guy stated putting the bag in the bucket always helps....but i usually have a supply at home not bagged.

I cant see where the guy keeps his auger now with all the get up. But i was already thinking about installing an auger mount on my snowmobile....then i can really run 'n' gun.

I already thought about installing some metal hooks on the sides near the bottom of the sled for attaching tie downs/bungee cords to snug everything down inside.

Thanks for the link....it all helps!

Hey, if you want to keep your minnows alive and well on trips behind the sled, put them in a container with a good tight lid that is FILLED to the top with water. If its full, they can't slosh around, and can't spill with a good lid.

The auger mount on the sled is a good idea. I've been wanting to set mine up for a long time now too. I've seen some where they used a piece of sono tube attached to the back, and the auger just sits in there beauties........also a rack from frame to frame over the hood is good too.

That hut looks great BTW. I think the sled part of a portable is the most important piece! That one looks great!!

I took it out today for the first time, WOW....what a difference. It was -25 celcius when we arrived....although nice and sunny. But the difference between outside and inside was like two different universes, really noticed the difference...and we didn't even have a heater!!! And being mostly black it really soaked up the sun too.

This is not a sled for towing by hand though...holy crappolla is it heavy!!! My snowmachine is in for a service so me and my buddy pulled it out by hand...ok going DOWN to the lake....but coming UP was a real chore....i'm a little worried now as to whether even my snowmachine will manange...time will tell.

What i really loved was how easy it was to deploy and take down....litteraly 30seconds, just whip the elasticated cover off, all your gear is easy to get to and it just pulls up and clicks into place as you go.....so Run 'N'Gun style fishing will be a breeze!!!

NO PROBLEM GETTING DOWN TO THE LAKE....BUT ITS A HEAVY BEAST...DEFINITELY A SNOWMOBILE OR ATV NEEDED.

THE BLACK MATERIAL REALLY SOAKED UP THE SUN'S HEAT, LOL ...AND DAVE IS ALSO 6'4" AND 250lbs....SO MAKES IT LOOK SMALL!!!

IMG_2506.jpg

PLENTY OF ROOM INSIDE, AND WINDOWS ALL ROUND

It kinda sucked that we only caught small perch today.....but that lake is normally pretty good

They are definitely nice huts, went to BPro this evening to get the mid sized one, all sold out except for the floor model, supposed to have a few more coming in the next while. The bench seat is a little higher than some of the other swivel seat models, feels better on the back for me.

Hey Phil,

The fishfinder is the Lowrance X67C. An awesome little bit o gear....i use it on my boat in the summer too. You can buy it as an Ice fishing pack...but i just bought a battery and "iceducer seperately and save over $100. I just took the mounting bracket off the boat.....attached it to a short pice of wood siding i had lying about...and put it in an old soft sided cooler. It has a LCD flasher mode too if flashers are your prefered fishfinder...and despite what some peple say the screen does not freeze in minus temps......it was outside the hut today as temps started dropping below -25 C.

Heres a clip of it in graph mode i made a few weeks back...great fun.

AND I SHOULD BE GETTING PAID BY LOWRANCE AND OTTER TEAM WILD!!!!!
