  1. Seems pointless to suggest buying a new tip when the OP said he cut it off at the next eyelet... I would also suggest staying far away from an Ugly Stik, unless you really don't care about feeling light or medium hits. I used to be a big Ugly Stik fan, but it was out of sheer ignorance. Sure, they're durable. But so is a steel pole. Even my cheapest Shimanos feel ten times better than any Ugly Stik I've used.
  2. The telescopic rod tube at CT is a joke. Cap pops off, flimsy body, etc. Made my own out of ABS, not telescopic but SO much better! Will be mounting it to the rear rack on my Honda Big Red.

It was a 10-year manufacturing ban and it ended in the 90s. The companies all agreed to not revive production.

I had two of them last year. Decided to sell them to pay for a 4 wheeler. Can't kill those big reds, but they'll gladly kill you hahaha

I also have two, but only one is insured and plated, the other is just for parts. Would have cost too much to get them both running, and I can only drive one at a time. :P

This series was awesome! But they sure didn't show Sam too much until the last few episodes... I have to wonder why that is. I didn't picture him winning, but they really focused on some of the other guys by comparison. I was really impressed with Lucas and Alan made me laugh a few times. I hope they do a second season! Other than Dick Proenneke's vids, Surviroman, and even Naked and Afraid, I don't have much else to watch in this vein. (I find Ray Mears super-knowledgeable, but his shows aren't very interesting to me, and Bear Grylls is a fraud and a joke). Do you mean Survivorman and Son? I think there were only a couple episodes, and it isn't that new. Logan, just spent some months battling cancer at Sick Kid's in Toronto, and I don't think he'd be out filming again so soon (maybe I'm wrong). Then Les broke some ribs when, IIRC, a vehicle overturned more recently and was airlifted back to Toronto... I think his most-recent televised shows have been Survivorman Bigfoot.
  4. Thanks for the tip! I hit my local store up last week after seeing this post and picked up a bunch of random useful stuff. Some terminal tackle, some Little Cleos, some Blue Fox #3s, a spinnerbait, and some other random stuff - about $40-50 worth. Woulda got a lot more, too, if they'd had more!
  5. I think it's fairly common to catch a fish in 80 feet of water and then leave it on the hook until you get back to shore so you can snap a pic on the docks. Isn't it?
  6. You can build a housing pretty easily for a GoPro or SJCAM style camera (and possibly others) with some ABS or PVC pieces and a weight of some kind. I am strongly considering doing it myself, just in case I get some cool footage. Here's an example of how to build it: Live feeds don't really work too well when the signal has to be sent through water, not to mention if your line and cam is far out, so I wouldn't really worry too much about that. I have an SJ4000 Wifi (genuine, not the cheaper clones) that I got from Amazon for about $115, and I'm really quite happy with it, considering the alternatives. Compatible with GoPro mounts, too. I've only really used it at the beach and on my ATC so far, but it's been great. Hopefully I'll get some footage while fishing sometime to enhance a decent report, we'll see.
  7. For the low, low price of just over three hundred dollars, they can keep their fancy backpack!
  8. I don't know about those super-expensive models, but I have a handheld Dakota 20 that I really like (loaded with just the Ontario portion of the free Ibycus 4.0 topo maps). Only problem with it is I scratched the touch screen in my first hike with it. :\ Still functions fine, but it bothers me. A good alternative to Google Maps is Oruxmaps, at least for Android users. I'm not sure if it's on iPhone.
  9. Obviously a sunken pirate ship full of treasure. Now it will be lost forever!
  10. Redefines "roughing it." Would be pretty sweet, but I'm sure I'll never afford something like this.
  11. My Honda is all insured and plated, just got my mechanic/brother swapping some parts right now and will be good to go for a ride tonight after work! Yeeeeah boiiii. Er... I mean, sweet.

      High ho Dana away.

      Emjoy Dana and ride safe.

  12. True. There are tons of year-round brookie lakes around here, and I do tend to hit them up after the others are shut down. I do like the replacing of coordinates idea... Only problem is I'd want to see if anyone showed up.
  13. My Nikon Coolpix does, and there are some DSLRs that do as well (not my T3). I don't use it because I think it's stupid, but I can imagine how it might be used by some people.
  14. Nice pics and fish! I typically avoid fishing for lakers because I lack confidence and knowledge... I'd like to change that, though. I have only caught them through the ice with a white tube jig, and once while half-heartedly casting something in open water (spinner or something).
  15. On a mobile phone, OK, but don't go accusing people for OOS fish based on a datestamp if it's a regular camera. I pretty much never have my date and time set properly on my cameras because it's too much hassle for no real point. Some of them drift a lot, some of them reset whenever you pull the battery. I guess if the datestamp on an image looks reasonably legit, then sure, but still.
  16. Thanks for all the comments, everyone! I am sure I'll be posting more stuff in the future, hopefully with [real] fish. I just got an SJ4000 action cam that I'm quite happy with. My brother is moving next door this month, so with my new 3 wheeler and his 4 wheeler, we're gonna go exploring for fish soon! Already got a couple trout lakes picked out to hit, so hopefully reports will come sooner than later. I'll try to get some more reports with my boy, too. Last time you saw him was when we went camping around a year ago, right? Yeah, he's grown a bit. Not as much as we'd like to see, but we're still working with an OT from Timmins. I'm sure your little girl is growing up fast, eh? We gotta head down there soon for a visit, I think! I got the Sonoma around a year ago, got it on the road in the fall. I love it, but I think a ball joint is starting to go. It was a good price anyhow, and my brother fixed up the body pretty good (paint doesn't match, but I don't care). It gets me where I wanna go. Just wish it was a little less thirsty, at just over 13mpg...
  17. Nothing really to say about this trip, but a couple days ago I took my son out in one of the Sportspals to a lake that's close to home for an hour or so. There's a sunken wooden structure of some sort with a bunch of rocks in it right close to shore, and there are almost always tons of little fish hanging out by it, so I figured it'd be a good place for him to have an experience, even at his young age (he'll be 3 in a few months). This isn't his first fish or first fishing trip or anything, but it's the first time I took him alone on the water to fish with his rod (Zebco Dock Demon). It was his first rock bass and first [tiny] smallmouth bass, though. So, without further ado, here's a heavily-edited video: And a couple pics:
  18. Do you need this stuff if you're in a float tube? What if you're just floating in the water with a life jacket on? (I'm pretty sure I saw Robson Green do this once or twice.)
