They're not charged/ convicted of a crime so it's community hours. I've always understood those hours to be doing something to benefit the community and a baseball fundraiser (to help pay their fines no less) doesn't count imo. Their community service hours should be something that allows them to reflect on why they're doing such hours. Baseball is play and then get drunk and laugh at the process. I also don't believe for one second that they'll take anything away from their experience, well hopefully a few will.

A fundraising baseball tourney ? So someone else is paying their fines basically ? what a fail. Community service should be manual labour, cleaning up garbage at boat launches for the season, that kinda thing. Having fun hitting balls doesn't count.

Ice floe trollers on Simcoe have to pay up...
woodenboater replied to Harrison's topic in General Discussion
I think extenuating circumstances such as unsafe ice warnings tipped it this way and I have no problems with it in this particular situation. There are some things that happen and some things that shouldn't happen. This *shouldn't* have happened. -
I'd been using a Black Feather canoe pack (Trailhead) and it had a couple of nice features that we wanted on the Ostrom. Basically a couple of extra external pockets that makes life a bit easier Also wanted something other than the trad pack colours. Often times I'll use a North Face expedition pack myself when carrying the canoe. Used to tump my packs but that got old fast unless I needed to haul loads.

Yep, got a custom canoe pack for SWMBO. First one was 'lost' by UPS, second one as well. Needed one for a trip so he sent one down till he had ANOTHER one sewn up which he then brought down for us at a canoe show. Best pack imo. We had custom colours done so if we ever see the twins, we'll know they were fingered by someone in the chain of delivery. If you get one, consider asking for side pockets as an option, if he still does this. Cookes and Granite Gear are good but Ostrom gets my nod.

If yer ever in the St. Lawrence Market area, Buster's Sea Cove has fried smelt. That and their curly fries make a nice lunch break from shopping. I like to dredge mine lightly in some flour or corn starch and s&p and fry 'em up in oil. yup, you just made me hungry...

It's a small thing but at least the renewal site suggests saving the receipt and licence as pdf's to be printed later as some members have done. I just hope the csr is right and I get my card in 20 days from this am.

I'm not sure since I'm just getting back into flies but you might need more than a 7 or 8 to throw those streamers. 9 would probably be the best I think. I use a WF sink tip, can't remember if it was double taper or not. With an 8 I found it a pita to throw 4-5 inch streamers but that could be the rust For me, hitting a hungry, aggressive bass on a wooly bugger is tough to beat.

Couples Resorts? Bancroft to North Bay

You want the Greenwoods cabin at Blue Spruce Resort on Oxtongue Lake. Been going there for I don't know how many years but never stayed at Greenwoods, always booked. Want a hot tub, check. Sauna ? check. It's separate from most of the cottages so it's a bit quieter. The Haydens are super great folks and run a wonderful place all year. Nice bass fishing in Oxtongue and close to Algonquin Park and Huntsville. damn, forgot to say congratulations ! -
That's truly unfortunate and tragic, I'm very sorry to hear this. I used to put out those hidden maze traps with poison for mice until my brain fart lapsed and remembered we had a neighbourhood cat who loved coming to our yard. There was no way for her to access the poison but if she found any mice or rat that had eaten some...Well the poison bait stations are in storage now and we're a poison free home. Spring traps in garage nooks and that's about it. Hopefully your neighbour will hear this and realize that it was probably their poison and find alternative ways to deal with pests in the future.

The warm weather we've been having is deceiving many people into a sense of safety. I paddle whitewater and while the weather may be gorgeous in late winter/early spring, chances are I'll still be in my drysuit if I'm any distance from the car or a road. Will have to look for it but there was a formula that determined ambient temperature and water temperature and time till hypothermia set in and it was sobering. For many, the shock of total immersion in frigid waters can lead to cardiac issues or sudden gasping (which may introduce water to the lungs). Stay safe, keep a dry bag of extra clothes and understand the local conditions and you minimize your chances of a very bad day.

I hope the squirrel hunting Guist bros are back for another season, they were a riot lol.

Couldn't believe the risks R.J. and Jay Paul took in this episode, esp after R.J. got his head dunked just shy of gator mouth. yikes.

I feel for Carlyle, poor guy but he knew he what he was getting into. Kinda related (but not really), I hope Crosby is well and truly ok, medically speaking, but I'm scurred for him.

Two more guys rescued on Simcoe today.

There's no attribution or note about who or which authorities issued it so take this fwiw but this line from the story bears repeating... "Despite multiple warnings about unsafe ice, anglers went on to the ice..." -
I've bought the membership off and on over the years and I really think you have to be strategic about it. If you have some big purchases to make this year then the membership will pay for itself in savings, depending on how much you drop. Of course, having the card will feed you into shopping at LeBaron so you can make the most of it. Smart idea on their part I think. Only caveat is that the 10% doesn't apply to sale items so you may not get the 10% off on top of the tax free.

we seriously need to sticky a food porn thread, would be the most viewed thread guaranteed an oh yeah, I just had dinner but that's still making my mouth water....<drool>

Although technically it wasn't one, offshore winds need to be respected. For those in Barrie and the area, were there any official warnings about ice and wind conditions for Friday ?

Flipping through today's Globe and Mail travel section and there's this two page ad spread on the NWT. Featured pretty prominently is Moosebunk's doppelganger Even has the same Gore Tex jacket lol. Hope NWT tourism lays out the red carpet for you next time yer up !

Indeed Roy. Hopefully they'll pause and think about the bullet they dodged today and learn from it. With the forecast calling for double digits next week, I think the season is sunk.

thought I heard on the radio kids were rescued. I should check to be sure. edit... from the Ottawa Citizen of all places: from an OPP spokesperson: "Five or six people were "plucked from thew water" , Leon said, with some young children. Leon said he did not have information about how many men and women were involved or how many children, although there were "some young children". http://bit.ly/xgwBpC No idea how up to date this info is however...

If the conditions were known to be sketch and warnings put out, yeah, send em a bill. and the ones with their kids in tow...I dunno, I just shake my head...
