:clapping: this is what will get the kids growing, hopefully, into fishermen who appreciate and respect nature's resource. Well done Ron !

The company I work is pretty fair over all. A number of years a go a colleague in my department got busted for DUI but ended up swapping positions for the year with another colleague who worked inside. He was lucky but I don't think he ever was able to truly control his drinking. Can't remember if we also have a drug policy or not but am presuming we do. and yeah, my company would probably pink slip the three guys as well, after much discussion with the union. Well maybe not so much discussion for the drug and siding guys, the one with sciatic problems would involve more negotiations.

Pricey but I love my Watershed bags ( I have the Ocoee and Chatooga) for waterproof storage on paddle trips where the likelihood of immersion is high. It's basically an industrial strength rubber double row zip loc type closure. Haven't heard a bad thing about them from any friends who use them. May not be practical if you need to access your tackle box frequently. Other option is to get a Pelican case and set that up as a tackle box. These are def waterproof (as long as one remembers to close the purge valve).

sorry BB, meant that or however they bring 'em in. I like Port Dover in the summer, nice place to day trip.

If you keep the roe in the sac, try steaming them and put a little grated fresh ginger and some soy on it. I actually try to pick fish (bass for example) that are stuffed with eggs when shopping in Chinese supermarkets. The people working the counter usually know to ask if you want to keep the eggs as they're cleaning them. Curious since it's been years since I've had perch from Erie ( Port Dover) but how deep do they trawl their nets when catching perch ? I had a chance to go out on an Erie fishing boat once but missed the opportunity.

regurgitating an old thread with an update in case others are still waiting on their cards. Did it online March 28 and finally received my card today, 22 days start to finish. Not bad and close to what the service rep thought it would take. Hope things are ironed out in three years lol.

Marian Hossa leaves ice on stretcher
woodenboater replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
I'm not a first responder nor have any formal training at all (wife had wilderness first responder training but that's neither here nor there) and I believe the stretcher is protocol for possible neck and spinal injuries. Isolate the head to avoid any possible problems, most accidents I've seen the person injured is put in a collar and a strap or tape put around their forehead and secured to the litter. If there's a member here in emergency response, they would know for sure. I hope the players look at what's going on and decide that enough is enough and that pucks in the net win games, not brutal hits. -
Marian Hossa leaves ice on stretcher

and that's the problem with Torres. He could have chosen to stay on the ice and deliver a different hit but no, he had to launch himself and thusly rendering total loss of control of where his mass is going. Stay on the ice and maintain control. He could just as easily have moved left and still given Hossa a hard hello. Torre's a loose canon that needs to be declawed. Ok, I've watched the video a couple of times and I do believe Hossa was headed for the bench. You can see another player start to climb over when Hossa gets hammered. -
Marian Hossa leaves ice on stretcher

While the Stevens locomotive was of the time, I think it's now part of the bigger picture re: injuries and marketability for the NHL. Too many players seem to be injured and some is the result of advanced equipment materials. Are they ever going to bring back softer padded elbow pads ? I think we're all for good clean hits but this wasn't. Hossa wasn't admiring anything and was out of play and Torres launching himself was just wrong and imo, premeditated. He had enough time to contemplate his course of action and chose to leave his skates. I'd hate to see us go back to the days when Shore, Bailey and Horner ( yes, no helmets back then) lit it up. -

Doesn't anyone throw old school mid ice hip checks anymore ? Torres should be tossed for the rest of the playoffs and well into next season as well. Repeat offender who obviously hasn't learned anything. NHL needs to drop four or five teams and thin the pool, put some emphasis back on exciting (ie-no dirty hits) end to end play. -
Wow, after Jonathan Toews criticized the fact that Shea Weber escaped a suspension, Raffi Torres nails Marian Hossa. Leaves his skates for the hit. and this is only the first round. If Shanahan doesn't show some backbone, someone is going to get seriously hurt before they hand over the Lord's cup.

Awesome experience you had and so very, very lucky to have met him. I can picture him as you presented the trout to him on your return with the waterlogged cedar /canvas sponge. Now I'm going to have to guess which small body of water that was, there are a couple that I've been on that *could* be the one Yano, I would love to collect all the great anecdotes/ stories here so I have something to read during the winter <ducks quickly>, this ever crossed the minds of TPTB ?

For rosemary I'd skip the ground and grow it in a large planter pot. It *should* be ok outside in the winter but we've had our potted Rosemary inside and out for somewhere around 5 or 6 years now. Had some growing outside but we always ended up killing it. As you can tell my thumbs aren't green. You don't have sage listed there but that is one damned hardy herb. Grows like stink (watch it or it'll spread) but keeps coming back even after winters buried under feet of snow. Nothing beats a few sprigs of fresh sage on foil steamed trout ( along with proper amounts of unsalted butter and flaky kosher salt).

Trapper and guide but not sure about logger.I liked the previous name better and wish I had met the man. Met his nephews when they had a shop on 11 but not The Man. His book is a great read though, you shld grab a copy. I like the two access points just north of Huntsville. Grab a Park map and follow the squiggly blue lines I remember on one trip I was being smart and decided to cut the portage down by lining the canoe and packs beside the stream a bit (was a muddy schlepp). Lo and behold I see wonderful finned things oblivious to my thrashing around. Didn't have rods that trip unfortunately....I can only imagine doing a few roll casts in that tight space and seeing decent sized brook trout on the end of the leader...sigh

Drifter's suggestion makes sense if it is a missing pin. Nose down with weight on one side could cause your boat to carve, to the right in your case. Paddlers use a somewhat similar principal when entering and exiting eddies. Once locked into a carve, it can be a pain to correct because you need to overcome or minimize the bow wave. At least that's my guess...

Lakers or brookies ? As noted, Opeongo is where most go for lakers, not sure what motor limit is. I like the west side access for brook trout although there are other interior lakes off 60 I hear the locals like. Portaging will get you away from the riff raff

What's the Weather like in your region? - NF
woodenboater replied to Leecher's topic in General Discussion
About an hour ago, the clouds looked like they would be right at home in Mordor, with appropriate howling winds. Sunny and quite windy right right now. Waiting for the temp drop. ot. jerk chicken tonight -
Not north side but still close to North Bay, the west side is mostly lakers and bass from what I remember. You'll find brookies in some of the streams/ rivers as well. North Tea is a motor lake and small horse units are carried acoss the portage but keep in mind Kawawaymog (known as Round Lk and an access point) is a shallow lake and blows up into a choppy mess very easily. The west is a very beautiful side of the Park, you'll have a great time.

Couple of friends went the Ikea route for their kitchen remodel and had great experiences and love what they got. I'm considering this if/when we redo our kitchen and make it bigger/better. If you need appliances, I strongly suggest Caplans (Weston Rd and Eglinton) , if you're in Toronto. If you're a kitchen geek, this place is heaven.
