  1. Don't forget motor size also plays a role in how much your premium is. My insurance Co. also wanted to know where it was going to be used and stored.
  2. I strongly agree Lew, too many idiots on the water, too many big powerful boats and there is a definite lack of consideration and safety consciousness. This type of problem is on almost every body of water I have boon on. The Trent Severn system is really bad. I have made posts before about our encounters around the Atherly Narrows And Couchiching, almost swamped in my old 12'r a few times. True we don't own the water around our boat but people have to be more careful and smarter around smaller craft and those engaged in fishing. It's not a question of rights, it's a matter of safety and being considerate. Just like the idiot that cut me off in a blue Dodge pickup this afternoon on Burloak Dr., just after that he almost completely lost control of it at the next turn which really made me happy. Of course if he had not brought it around and hit a pole rather than missing it I would have been happy happy happy :clapping:
  3. Dunno, when I first came onto the site the skin was different. Then I signed in, read a PM and all of a sudden the usual skin was back . Go figure eh?
  4. Fantastic gift Beans. And what a showing of generosity from the giver! Enjoy the rig and happy carping.
  5. YEP! You mean to say you haven't had a cat take a minnow? I have caught far to many cats this spring on live minnows, trolling spoons and spinners. You should give it a try. Kind of fun except when the cat gets his pectorals tangled up in the net and the trebles of your favourite Mepps through the netting so bad that I had to cut up the net so the big cat could live. Just like in GCD's pictures, cats do love minnows. I know I was surprised years ago the first time I got one this way. So much for them being bottom feeders eating rotting stuff.
  6. Nice report even though there were no fish. That is a nasty looking cloud.
  7. Wow. That's all I can say, wow. Not really only that, I can say one more thing. If they have a website or email address send them a link to your thread.
  8. If the sign says 3 bucks for a dozen then that is what it means...you give the shopkeeper 3 bucks and you get 12 minnows. Same thing if the sign says 3 bucks for a scoop, give them 3 loonies and ya git a scoop of minnows, maybe 12, could be 30. Not to hard to figure out. If by chance you get more than 12 when buying a dozen be thankful and show your appreciation. I have encountered bait shops that sell by the scoop and also sell by the doz. The minnows sold by the dozen are usually larger and perhaps healthier. The scoop minnows are in a different tank.
  9. Lots of accessible spots all near the boat ramp. Nice easy access to the water edge. Over near the tour boat and William's Coffee Pub there are good places almost everywhere. My neighbour was telling me this morning that his buddy caught a walleye in this spot a couple of weeks ago. Others have told me that the perch action is hot in the spring. Good luck, have fun and if you go to where the tour boat is there is the Marine Discovery Centre for the kids to see, public washrooms, a tram, and of course Williams for lunch and a coffee. Then when you are heading home you can stop into the Lakeport Brewery on Burlington St. for a case of brown pops for a buck a bottle! My son and I were down there with the boat this morning and tried a lot of nice looking spots but no luck today.
  10. Nice job on the pictures and video Terry. The boat looks like it moves along pretty good! But why did your motor overheat?
  11. Funny Good one. It reminds me of the Pingu cartoon my son used to watch.
  12. NP Misfish, I have never had a problem picking through lumber at any yard. Lucky I guess? I did order PT for a deck once from Beaver Lumber, anyone remember them?. I learned from that experience to not let them send me anything they feel like! From then on I hand picked from the pile. I haven't been offered the job yet. they are probably waiting for a police check to come back and then contact my references and then make an offer. If this is successful it will be a big change from a straight commission only job where I have to cover all of my expenses! Less pay per average week, but at least we'll have fewer weeks throughout the year when there is no paycheck at all. This isn't the job I had really wanted but that is how it usually goes, I am kind of excited and I have a good feeling about it. There was another job that I also interviewed for last week which matches my qualifications and recent training. So far not a word from that one, time will tell, my fingers are crossed. I do believe that Rona will be a good fit because of my background in the window, door and siding business. Lowe's (from the U.S) is also coming to town with their first Canadian store which is only about a 5 or 6 minute drive from home! That would be handy and my gas costs would be a lot easier to handle! Thanks for your help everyone
  13. Everything I have heard about Rocky is good :thumbsup_anim: I'm glad you found him.
  14. There is a new big box Rona opening in Waterdown this fall. I went through the entire interview process I think that there is a job offer in the making as I had to sign for a police report and let them copy my license info. I am wondering what they are like as an employer. Fairness, wages, advancements and if the staff are a pretty happy bunch? Thanks for your help.
  15. Fantastic report Jen. A lot of nice fish were landed. We were on the Grand and on Erie on Sunday. My wife pointed out a pickup with a tent in the bed as we went up the canal to give it a try around the lily pads. I guess it must have been yours.
  16. Sorry to hear the news John. Have a drink or 2 for him, and be glad for him that his suffering is over.
  17. Yep, I would say that it is a tad overdue for a remodel or plumbing work! Just think, over on this side of the pond if a building is over 80 years old we consider that to be ancient. Built in the 1100's now that qualifies to be an historic building for sure!
  18. Maybe your bank can check it out to see if there are any outstanding loans on it. My father bought a used pickup one time. His bank checked it out for him as a courtesy and discovered the guy owed a bit more on it than my father was paying. They proceeded to the bank together and my father stood there as the seller paid the bank loan off. He made sure that it was in the clear. The seller did not divulge that he owed anything on it until my father confronted him after he learned about the situation. He did the same several years later when buying a used camper van. Same situation, the seller owed on it although she did tell him he still checked it out and he made sure that it was free and clear before buying. Check with them, they may help. Get all the details including the VIN #.
  19. Doesn't it feel great to look at the former boss and say to yourself, "See I told you so." I'm happy for you that the engine repair is working out so well for you. Proves the theory about not being able to teach an old dog new tricks isn't so true anymore.
  20. Duh! Like they could not foresee that this could happen? How many times have we heard of floods devastating those parts of the country? (The Mississippi watershed) And they were allowed to bring live immigrant species into the area. How utterly stupid could anyone in an authoritative position have been to allow this to even happen in the first place? What I mean is, wouldn't the catfish farmers have to have had permission to import these fish? Lessons are learned too late at a high cost. I hope that we have at least learned a lesson from this. Like Xrap said, if there is one then likely there are more in hiding. Just like cockroaches, if you see one there are a thousand hiding in the walls. The possibility that there are more in the Sarnia area is quite possible.
  21. Thousands of fish have died off in Spencer Creek due to the chemical runoff from a fire in Dundas. Report was on CH news at noon, a small report in the Hamilton Spectator and in this Guelph Mercury link. Report here
  22. What a perfect way to close out a day. Great pitures Sam.
  23. I agree the 30's would probably be inaccurate, just using my sarcastic wit to express an opinion. It makes sense that cloud cover would effect the temp. readings. The 30 degree readings could be in the 40's, maybe 50's. I can remember summer days when I was a kid. It could be 90 degrees and hotter than Toby's arse and we would run down to the beach, across the hot sand burning the bottom of our feet and then have to run back out of the water because it was frigid!!! Then we would find that comfort area of damp sand that was cooler but not freezing like the lake water. The we would be in a fix, trying to figure out how to get back to our towels without burning our feet! Ahhh childhood memories. Later, upon listening to the news we would learn that the lake water temp for that day was like 40 something. So we started going to the public swimming pool at Mountainside park. The water in the pool was warmer, much warmer it would be around 71 degrees!! Wow we couldn't get over how warm the pool felt! Now I wouldn't get in the water if it's colder than 80! Hope this isn't a thread hijack, just reminiscing.
  24. So I have to ask. "What did they put in that potato salad?" I gotta get me some of that stuff!
  25. Wow, that's cold! See those temps in the 30's. You may have to take your auger out there with you to knock a hole through the ice.
