Reporting what they had said on the news and it has been played repeatedly on this mornings news. Apparently these are not spawned out. Even though they are planted fish from a hatchery the report has a message, our fishery is in some danger due to low water levels and pollution. I think that is a major point of the report. I don't think the entire die off just happened today, more than likely over the past several weeks when temperatures were higher then what they are today.

It was on Hamilton CHCH News at 6 this evening about a large salmon die off in Hamilton Harbour. Spencer and Grindstone Creeks water levels are low and with the warm fall weather we had the harbour's water temperatures were too much for the fish to endure. Seeking colder water the salmon sought refuge in the colder water in the deeper areas. The oxygen levels at these depths is too low to sustain the fish, hence the die off. The low oxygen levels are from decaying sewage laying in the deeper areas of the harbour. There will not be much of a spawn in fall 2011. Several more years of these conditions and that will be it for the salmon run. Just reporting what I heard tonight. I tried to Google a link to the news story but couldn't find one.

Yeah, gotta agree with $800. Nice looking boat even for more than 800 bucks but winter is here now. Low ball your offer. If he balks then wait him out for a short while. If he is insulted by your offer then except that and up it after being silent. Remember when negotiating, the first one to speak is the looser. Your car and trailer parked at the curb and not wanting to keep it for the next 5 months will work in your favour, it may get him anxious to take an offer. Also as you said point out that it is for a short shaft motor and that may be difficult to come across. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

Sugarpackets first time........in the Bass Hound

Looks like you had a fun day bringing in the crappie, guess fighting the rain and the cold paid off. -
Saw a poster for it at fishing world the other day. Maybe it's called a fishing and boat show they can get away with it and give some competition to the sportsman's show? Sportsman's show is supposed to fund conservation, I just hope that more of the proceeds go to conservation than lining of the sponsors pocket. Wonder why any of these shows are so costly, both for the vendors and the admission fees?

Glad to hear you had a good time Mike. Too bad about getting skunked though. Rotten banana eh? That'll do it But ya gotta blame something right?

I do believe that you are exactly correct. Too bad those that went had such a negative experience. Hopefully Merland management will get drift of this and make amends to participating OFC'rs for your troubles. What a group to P _ _ _ off! Guess you could say that the owners were a couple of

I have often wondered how many times that very same thing has happened? I bet there are many times that a lure has been followed or chased and the fish dodges off at the last second. Good video TJ, thanks for the post.

There is a probably a box of those old cylinder records in my mothers basement. I think that guy just about said Oh _ _ _ _ rather than the poop word

I think Beans said it well. Reduce your intake of regular refined white sugar and stay away from the artificial sweeteners. Just gradually cut back a little bit, then a little more and a bit more and so on until you get down to about a 1/4 or an 1/8th of a teaspoon and you will probably be better off. Stay away from diet soda pop too, it will cause more trouble than good. I'd rather have a bottle of water any day and occasionally have a can of regular good old Coke now and then or a Barqs Root Beer.

You guys had better take good care of him this weekend, the poor bugger's going to freeze to death up here in the land of ice and snow! Glad to see that you made it safe and sound GCD.

Best of luck Hometown, you have received some good advise. Let us know how you made out with it.

Don't blame you for deciding that is it for the year. A cold nasty and not so productive day like that can help make that decision. I know it's a tough choice to make and a sad one indeed, but the boat has to be put to rest eventually. Until next season that is!

Naw, didn't turn me off Stan. You're description sounded pretty appetizing. Except for the eyes popping out sort of thing as an indication as to it's ready to eat. Never could get past fish heads and eyes or even fins on the dinner plate. But the rest sounds tasty.

I missed something. Did Steve buy Manns Marina? BTW Wayne, the docks are no longer there only the steel posts are, so he has his work cut out. I'm surprised my brother's son-in-law didn't buy it, he's bought up a lot of good properties in Dunnville. If you did buy the place you beat him to it, congratulations!

Thanks for the ideas. The toilet bowl cleaner or Starbright sound like they could do the trick without being so caustic as oven cleaner.
-
It's like it's baked on and consists of a mixture of water surface scum, oil, unburned fuel and whatever else could possibly be caked on there. When I asked the boat mechanic where I bought a couple of years ago his answer was "Oven cleaner." I tried oven cleaner last year, it did work but still required some elbow grease. My problem with oven cleaner is that it is very corrosive and I would prefer to use something else. OC can't be too good for the painted surface after repeated use and what could any overspray do the the aluminum boats painted or bare finish? I kind of want to get everything all spic and span for winter storage and am greatful if anyone has any tips Thanks.

I've been told that they run them through a meat grinder and make fish cakes out of them. But then this is 3rd hand information. 9" or so are OK for fillets if they are on the plump side. Anything smaller then I feel you are better to let them live to next year. Personally I wish the people that keep all they catch would follow toss more back.

Anyone's boat worth more than the towing vehicle?
pikehunter replied to BFSC Kevin's topic in General Discussion
My vote just made it an even 50% !! Since my van is a '97 and the boat, motor and trailer combo is a 2005 it's value far exceeds the tow vehicle, even though it's only a tinny. Even when I bought the boat package it was worth more! The good part of this: the van is paid for, my wife's car is paid for and the boat motor and traier are paid for too! Edit....dunno what happened, by the time I submitted the post the count dropped down to 47 something %.
