  1. Working till 11:30, maybe next time.
  2. Like has already been said galvanized, painted if in good shape. Weight capacity is of importance too. Also bearings must be good as has also been said. If the spindles are chewed up from a bearing gone bad it will be more work to fix and this = more expensive. Check out new ones too and compare that to used trailer prices.
  3. Yep, should have shot the dogs owner.
  4. Tasty looking dinner. Just like that old saying; When the world tosses you lemons make lemonade. In this case, fish and shrimp balls.
  5. LOL Wayne
  6. Sheephead on steroids.
  7. Yes Gerritt, I too remember the sadness of that day. Time goes by all too quickly, 5 years sounds like a long time when we look into the future, but it sure goes by fast. I am sure you have many fine memories of the times you had together, keep the memories with you and he will always be there. Take care.
  8. I have a 2 yr old Lowe Sea nymph 16'. great boat, but condition in relation to age is what counts not the brand when it comes to older boats. The 7hp will push it OK. I had a 12' before with a 6hp Merc on it. Could get it to skip along pretty good. But be careful with 3 people on board and watch the weight rating.
  9. So sorry to hear the news Headhunter. Prayers are in the works for you and your family. Take care.
  10. Thank you everybody for your heartfelt wishes. We made all the arrangements yesterday for his funeral. It was a long tough day. I glanced at this thread for a moment yesterday but it was too difficult to continue reading then. This morning it is a little easier to do. Below is one picture I came across of my father and I in Florida with a fish he had caught (After seeing the enlargement of it I see another fish in his left hand.) on a charter fishing boat we had been out on. Later today we will be looking threw my parents albums for pictures for a tribute at the funeral home. Thanks again to everyone, your comments mean very much to us.
  11. The phone call I had been dreading came today. My father passed away at approximately noon. He had been in Burlington's Joseph Brant Hospital for about a week or so after his Doctor had him rushed there by ambulance. They placed him in ICU and realized he had had a major heart attack at home. About 2 days ago he was sent to a ward. I was on the Grand River this morning fishing without any luck and then headed back to the BBQ to load up the boat and head home to later go to visit my father. I was hoping to have had a couple of pictures for him showing the days catch to maybe cheer him up but I had no luck or resulting pictures for him to see. As I was pulling out onto the road my cell phone rang (it doesn't receive a signal downstream of the Dunnville dam and everyone had been trying to reach me for the previous hour.) I was told to get to the hospital right away. I sped home at speeds of over 130 km/hr on country roads with the boat in tow. After dropping it off in the garage at home I went straight to the hospital in Burlington. I was too late, my wife and sister were waiting for me in the lobby. I asked how he is, my sisters answer, "He's gone." I couldn't believe I never made it in time. In reality he was already gone when they called but no one wanted to tell me the bad news. I wish they had as I wouldn't have driven so recklessly in the hope of making it to the hospital in time. He was still in his hospital room when we went to up to the floor and I got to spend some moments with him. The story goes that he called my mother on the phone just before she, my sister and her husband were leaving to go see him. My mother wanted to get there to feed him his lunch, his tray was there waiting. They all walked into the room, he looked up at them and says "How are you doing?" My mother answered she was fine and asked him how he was? He responded "I'm good" Then turned his head to the side, made a noise, shuddered, and then just passed away. I can't get over this just yet. I know he was going to go, his health wasn't too good. I am happy for him to have lived to see 87 years. But it will take some time to get over this. My father loved fishing right up till a few years ago. He loved deer and moose hunting. He was a retired Ironworker, Union Local 736 Hamilton. He was a cop in Dundas ON, before I was born. He was a home builder, having built quite a few houses in Hamilton after returning from the war. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the army as a builder of Baily Bridges and then as a Military Cop. He with my late brother founded Saltfleet Taxi in the 1960's in Stoney Creek ON which was later sold and has now been absorbed by a larger company. My father did a wide variety of different things in his life. Even said to hell with it all when I was about 5 years old and sold everything and moved my mother and I down to Florida for a while and soon later returned to Ontario after he discovered that the grass wasn't any greener down south. Guess I have said enough for now. Just wanted to say something about his life and how he'll be missed. I feel bad I couldn't get him out for more fishing adventures in the last several years but I think he knew that. I wish I had a digital picture of him fishing on my computer. The best I can do right now is a picture of my mother and him on his 86th birthday while he was in the hospital in May 2006. I guess the best thing he did of all was fathering my brother, sister and me. Passed is Richard (Bud) Harrington
  12. Born Hamilton. Lived & raised in Burlington. Now live in Hamilton.
  13. Don't blame you bit! That was a good day fishing, Goes to show you that a fortune needent be spent to catch fish.
  14. With your post regarding the Green Party maybe I should look at them a little more seriously.
  15. Good job! I think they should go one step further and close the lake down for fishing altogether for at least one season and continue with the ice fishing ban. Maybe then reopen for a couple of seasons for kids camping under 18 of age before re-opening for the regular summer season. I took my son there a couple of years ago. We never had a bight however, there was a boat with mesh bags hanging off the side full of bluegills and crappies, most were so tiny that they could have passed for aquarium fish. Just an indicator of total greed.
  16. LOL Roy. I wish I had thought of that years ago!
  17. It may take time for retailers to catch up to the new currency exchange rate. One reason is that a lot of present inventory was purchased at a higher exchange rate. Most likely you will see prices drop once stock replenishment has taken place. I saw a scenario a couple of years ago when boat shopping. A dealer with 2 year old boats, but still brand new, was trying to sell them for more than the current year model at other dealers. To match the other dealers price for a new boat he would have been facing a loss on what he paid plus his carrying charges. I empathized with him but bought the current year, well actually the "next year" model elsewhere. It takes some time to work itself out. On the other hand remains the question: What will happen to prices when stock is purchased at the current exchange rate and the Can. $ drops? Bet you that the prices will skyrocket immediately on existing inventory.
  18. Yes Uncle Buck is correct! I called the Binbrook Conservation park, left an answering machine message and they actually called back! very considerate of them. Minnows are not yet banned in the lake. In addition he told me that the park is going into off season schedule. It will be closed on Saturday and Monday mornings until 1pm up till Thanksgiving. My apology for the wrong advise
  19. Uncle Buck: Now you are making me think about live minnows. I didn't think live bait, except for the likes of worms were allowed in any conservation area lake or pond. I remember fishing Valens when a teenager and I was told no minnows were allowed. You very well maybe correct. I tried searching on Gooogle but found no answers. I will try phoning them later. Thanks for questioning me.
  20. So typical! Go carp fishing and catch bass! Go bass fishing and get carp! Go figure? Looks like another perfect outing with the family
  21. Sorry to hear of Kareem's condition. Like you I'm not religious but I will think of him and pray for him. I hope that it will be easy for him, you and his family. I wish a turnaround for him. Congratulations on your daughters first day of school. I hope she enjoys it. The next 12 years will go amazingly fast for you. It seems like yesterday that my son started kindergarten, he has just started grade 12 this September. We cannot get over how fast the time has sped by us. I can still hear my mother's words the day he first started: "I'm glad to see him start school, neither your father or I will be around to see him go to high school." You know what? They are both here to see him in his final year of school, I hope they are still here to see him go through college. He is their youngest grandchild, and the most spoiled of them all, but on the flipside he still goes there everyday and is a great help to my father. Again, terribly sad to hear of your Buddie's trouble.
  22. Got ya, just do what the plate says to be safe. If you press your luck then expect that there is a problem waiting to happen. As said there are 2 sets of numbers, don't forget that passengers are not static weight but gear is. The Coast Guard has a formula to work out the numbers for safe capacities for a given hull design, weight and motor configuration. Just like the identical hull design in a 16 foot tiller will have a different capacity then the same 16 foot console. As for myself. I would not knowingly go beyond the boat plate recommendations. Having said that I have done so in the past with an old 12'r I used to own but I was stupid to do so. I can be a dumbass at times
  23. I don't get something here. Are you are asking for someone here to approve this desire for unsafe boating? Then you can say well so ans so said it will be OK so I feel comfortable with it. If you want to overload your boat and press your luck be my guest, I won't say it's OK. The limitations are printed on your boats plate for a reason, just like speed limits are posted on highways. Have you never heard of small boats sinking because they were overloaded and got swamped by a wave or the wind picked up suddenly? It has happened many times. If you want to take your buddies along I can understand, but tell your buds to go and buy you a bigger boat. Use your head, if your conscious tells you "Hey dumbass, this isn't right" then listen to it. Happy fishing
  24. Hi Hamilton Lad, Try your luck at Pier4/Bayfront park. If you are in the lower city it should be easy for you to get to. Another choice spot is LaSalle Park dock in Burlington. I don't think you will find much in Binbrook other than crappie, and don't use minnows in there as it is not allowed. If it easy for you to get down to the canal lift bridge give that a try too, or Bronte. Bronte directions: Take the QEW Toronto and exit Bronte Rd. and take it South towards the lake. If you turn right at Lakeshore Rd., cross the bridge and take your first left then follow the road on the left along the harbour to the parking lot. Or just stay on Bronte Rd. to the very end where there is street side parking and fish from the east pier. Most people fish the west pier though. Happy fishing and tell us how your experiences are.
