  1. I didn't know that I learn something new everytime I click onto OFC
  2. Yep the motor has to be in water to run. Used is OK if you have an understanding of what you are looking at. Used from a good boat dealer is OK too because at least you have a warranty. My first was used, it was OK. The second was from a dealer and they were really good with me and the motor was great! I loved it. My present one was new when I bought it and so was the boat. I bought new because I got fed up with running around hells half acre looking at other peoples "gems." Drive for an hour with the understanding that what I was going to see was "mint." Almost everytime it was a disaster! If it was a deal or a fair bargain it would be gone by the time I could get there, or it would be sold right from under my nose. If you know what you want and you can swing it buy new. Even if you have to drop a notch or two from your wish list new is always nice. Oh yeah...buy an aluminum boat for long term durability and resale value. If you are searching for a private deal for a used boat and motor in winter you will not find a very good selection. The dealers may have a deal to latch onto though. If you search the winter ads in Boat Trader or the classified ads you will not see too many for sale. Happy shopping.
  3. Yep that is a nice stretch of the Grand around your area. Nice pictures and great that your son was ready and willing to go at it again
  4. Good pictures and report. You sure did alot of screwing though LOL Don't complain too much about the GST, at least you get it refunded, not like the rest of us. The GST is a replacement for the manufacturers tax. With that in mind when we cross into the States and make purchases we don't get the hidden manufacturers tax rebated to us. So look at it this way, you aren't getting screwed, Canadians are! The next time you cross into Canada exchange your money at your bank at home before leaving. You will get a better deal there. The exchange booth at the border is not there to loose money, it is a business to make a few percentage points by providing you a convenience. To add to the screwing theme just think how the state of Florida screws tourists with extra hidden and straight out taxes that are not refundable. That being said, I'm happy the fishing was good for you and sorry to hear of your tire and customs troubles. The border guard sounds like a real moron! Probably some part time kid hired for the summer.
  5. LOL, sounds like your son had a day he won't soon forget. I hope he had on his bathing suit. Looks like you found a nice spot to fish.
  6. I haven't posted a report for a while, sorry about that. Just had to take the time to do the downloads. We went to the Grand River for a few successful trips in the early Walleye season. And the last 2 trips to that area we concentrated on L. Erie for bass around Gull Island, Port Maitland. The bass haven't cooperated with us there this year, but the gobies and sheephead did! Twice my wife got onto a smallmouth but lost them both right at the boat. With the lack of success there we would try up the river but the eyes have pretty much left the river at this time of year. Two weekends ago we went up to Orillia for a few days and just fished for perch in Simcoe at the narrows. Launching on Sunday the sky looked iffy, heavy clouds and windy but we ventured onto the water and got into the bluegills. After about 45 minutes out the air became really humid and the wind was a little different, a storm was coming. We headed back to the ramp, loaded the boat onto the trailer and just started to get the cover on the boat and it hit. We didn't get the cover tied down but it was secure and we just waited it out inside the van. The heavy rain, thunder and lightning didn't last long and we scooped off the water, tied the cover down and went to check into the hotel. We ended up with a huge room! Two TV's, one in the sleeping area and one in a second room with a couch and table! Off to the heated pool (had to be at least 88 degrees F.) for a swim and then off to town to wonder about. Next day we launched at the narrows for perch again. The fishing was fantastic! (At least for August.) We kept a dozen keepers for the ice chest and tossed back many runts a few bluegills and rockbass rounded things out. On Tues. morning we went to launch but the wind was wicked and freezing cold! We were dressed for warm weather so we waited around to think about it and a couple pulls in with a 12' tinny with one of those Briggs and Stratten 5hp 4 dtrokes on it. I had to check this out, always wanted to hear one of these air cooled motors run. He started it up for us to demonstrate it. Yes they are very loud! By the way, it was too cold for them too so they never bothered to launch either. On the way home we made a pit stop into BPS and donated 50 bucks to the cash register. At least I found the Dressed Mepps Brown Trout Spinner I have been hunting for the past 2 months! We got a few of them as it's hard to find this colour. Ignore the time (and prob some of the dates?) on the imprints. For whatever reason it keeps changing on it's own? Lots of these guys around Gull Is and the Grand Gull Island Don't know why this happened but it's cool Can you see the coyote chasing the roadrunner? The room, pretty big for the money, we lucked out this time The view of Couchiching from our window The rear of the hotel showing where the indoor pool is. Does anyone know this place? The Narrows Ramp Looking down from the narrows boatramp dock My son with one for the bucket He'll get this one again next year Biggest perch ever! My son relaxed at the tiller He's still relaxing! Amazing how the old gameboy comes out of storage on a road trip! Wifey gets to relax too, all pooped out from being the photographer! So...guess who gets to clean the catch?
  7. My father used to trap them because the neighbourhood was over run with them. At one time the SPCA would take them and do whatever with them. Then they started to charge and I believe later they wouldn't take them. So with that he started to dispose of them himself. He would carefully take the trapped skunk in the trunk of his car to a different location where he could open the trap door and let the skunk roll down a hill. This way if the skunk got ticked off it would spray the hillside and not him, or me the spectator. If your trap is low enough the skunk can't lift it's tail. If it can't lift it's tail it can't spray. So you should be safe Good luck and look at this as a new "fun" challenge.
  8. :clapping: :thumbsup_anim: What a great gift Lew! I'm glad for you to have received such a great present.
  9. I have passed this house many times and wondered what on earth possessed the owner to be so stubborn and stupid? But then I think, Wow! What a piece of property for a business! Look at all the surrounding exposure and the use of all of that great big parking lot for free! I know it isn't his to use, but you know how it is, people will park there regardless.
  10. Oh yeah.... Now that I have taken a second look at the picture I see that this is not the product I was thinking of. My mistake, thanks for pointing that out. Glad the honey worms and grubs worked for you Anatz.
  11. From your report I would say that it works! Haven't tried it yet, saw it on the shelf at Trombly's in orillia last week and thought it was rather pricey since I haven't really read a report about it. I think the price was around 19 bucks? for the small and 50 for the large bucket? If it works then it's worth it!
  12. If you are coming up here in a few weeks I asume you are planning your trip after Labour Day? At that time of year the weekend holiday traffic will not be as heavy or as crazy. Take the 407 toll hwy (ETR) in Burlington and take it all the way to the 400 exit. It will cost you about $18 or so but well worth the cost. Your time from Burlington to Orillia will be about 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on how fast you drive. I have taken the back roads on several occasions and it seemed to take forever to get there. Bass Pro Shop is on the 400 just after you enter from the 407 toll hwy. Just on the right at Bass Pro Dr. exit. Have a good trip and have fun fishing.
  13. EXACTLY! That was my first thought too Have a shot of Granny's rheumatism medicine and just say F him. Or as I always say, "Why waste time messing with the peons (like him) in life? Just go right to the top!" Which you did, so good on you as you had to do what you had to do. Guess that A hole just wants to look important, suppose he has to show some authority to prove he deserves a paycheck. Hope you're feeling better.
  14. Are you referring to the Mystery fish? LOL They used to call Mc's Fillet-O- Fish North Atlantic Whitefish....or in simpler terms, Cod. With the Cod stocks down who the hell knows what they are using now As for which walleye tastes better, I'd say the ones that are known as Pickerel
  15. Really nice job on the home away from home TJ. I have one question. The side walls look like they are tucked in on the inside of your plywood base wall. Is there a chance that the rain will follow the canvas and come inside? Just wondering. I think you have a good low cost solution to a good camp in the bush.
  16. I have no problem and I'm running Norton 2006.
  17. Good point Cliff. My whistle and flashlight are on board but under the cap inside my bailing bucket. Those 2 are lucky to be alive.
  18. Terrible news. Sorry to hear of your wife's uncles diagnosis. The best anyone can wish for him is to not have to suffer too long in pain. Be thankful for his time here on earth with your family and pray for the best. He is much too young.
  19. There are brackets available for tank seats such as you and I both have in our boats. One is a slide that allows you to slide the seat from left to right and swivel. The other is a screw on type also tha clamps around the tank/bench seat and the swivel base screws onto it. example of what I'm talkiing about They aren't cheap, but work well, they hold my 300 lbs OK. Don't know about that tiller seat though as you have a hatch on top of it? One of these may work. Perhaps a quick release on the swivel base so you can take the seat off if it gets in the way when you go into the storage under it. Could always try Rob at Riverside Marina as he sells PolarKraft and may have a suggestion or the parts you need. They may be open on Sunday (used to be anyway because they have gas pumps)
  20. This is the stuff you asked about. Picked it up at Walmart, I think, or maybe the Home Depot? The price was about $8 or $9. Comes with a wand to spray it into tight spots. Good luck on eradicating the pests.
  21. There is an expanding foam insecticide available. When you spray it the foam expands engulfing the nest, do it in the evening when the pests have entered the nest and are settling in for the night to avoid being stung and to get them all. I have used it on carpenter bees with success! Really neat stuff because carpenter bees drill holes and the foam comes out the other end filling the entire cavity and leaves a residue behind to kill off their offspring when they hatch. It can be used for all bees/wasps.
  22. We had a squirrel at a campground in Florida where we stayed for several weeks back in 1989. We would spread peanut butter on pieces of bread and leave them out for the squirrels to eat. It was fun to watch them pick it up and lick the peanut butter off and then go on the the next piece. As the squirrels were eating the peanut butter the birds would be sitting in the tree above waiting for the squirrels to finish so they could come down and snatch the leftover bread. Fun to watch as they made a good team. Then one day we had a small mat sitting on the picnic table to dry in the sun. We were inside having dinner, looked out at the table and one of the squirrels was peeing on the mat! Then they tried to get into the motor home through the screen door and after that we never fed them anymore. Great pictures Lew. They are entertaining to watch. So if you run out of peanuts try some peanut butter on bread.
  23. Nice place to fish Sam, you paid a pretty steep admission price to get in though. Maybe we should take your incident as a warning and have our cars, trucks and trailers looked over before heading out too far off the beaten path.
  24. The bulb Lew. Maybe the bulb also doubles as a brake light if it's a rear one, if so then you also have a brake light out.
  25. I have a 16' aluminum basic fishing boat with a 25hp on it with a galvanized trailer, year 2005. About the same coverage you have. Mine is around $165 year or there abouts, less than $200. I would say that is about right for your boat.
