Question for you car guys
FrankTheRabbit replied to crappieperchhunter's topic in General Discussion
I just wanted to bring to light to the fact that people want to be paid for what their worth and what they've spent time to be trained to do what they do. Too many people scoff at paying, what they feel, are ripoff prices. If you feel it's too much to pay for a service, it's certainly more than within your right to decline and shop with your money elsewhere. But to criticize the price and then say, "I can do it for a whole lot cheaper!", may indeed be fact, but it's just not being respectful to that person and their trained profession. It's not like they got their certification through some online course. Imagine if your employer/boss said to you, "You know what? I could just hire some Joe Shmoe in a 3rd World country to type out the reports that you do, for a fraction of what you cost. You know what...don't think I will pay you your wages because I think you're ripping me off." Some food for thought. And no, I'm not an auto mechanic, but have dealt with people who feel that they should be paying less for the services that one offers. -
Question for you car guys

Cash grab or not, people need to make a money and have a family to feed and a mortgage to pay. It's no different than eating at a steakhouse and paying $40 for striploin, when you can pick it up yourself and toss it on the BBQ for $14. And do you want to know what the markups for wine/alcohol/drinks are in restaurants? On the flipside, how much is YOUR time worth? -
And little Miss Piggy, Bev Oda.

Beg to differ. ORNGE scandal was brought to the forefront by the paper. Investigative journalism seems to exist...did you happen to read the story regarding the Ontario officers who were convicted of drunk driving, but only received a slap on the wrist (docked pay, no jail time)? Since you mentioned partisan newspapers, I'm surprised you didn't mention The Toronto Sun. How many months did they prop up their poster boy Rob Ford? How many months did they deny the accusations of his drug use, drunken stupors, and other behaviours that they vilify? All because Rob Ford was working under the Conservative banner.

If you put in place a restriction on the town fishing, you might as well include the the rest of the east tribs too. People who are turned away from fishing Ganny will only pressure and leave even more garbage/rotting fish corpses in surrounding tribs. It's really unfortunate that people don't know any better...it's common sense and common decency to not litter or poach. The town spots on Ganny, Willy CNR, and certain spots on Bville are just bad locations for fish to hang out in.

2 Top Bass tourney competitors caught red-handed
FrankTheRabbit replied to big guy's topic in General Discussion
There are some warped minds out there when people fish. They'll convince themselves any way possible to justify their methods to get that extra edge. Some ProBass fellas have the mindset that it's ok to target bass before the legal opening date, as long as they catch and release. If people think like that, it's no wonder they will convince themselves to cheat and be able to sleep at night. Even instances where anglers fishing above the CNR on the rivers, before trout opener, and telling themselves they're targeting suckers. Go figure... -
Outdoors card and finishing license expiry ?
FrankTheRabbit replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
Just chiming in how much I don't like the current Outdoor's Card. The previous one, with the smallie, was such a nice one to look at. Did they really save that much money with the ugly wavey lines on the current one instead of making an attempt to have it look somewhat decent? -
Past couple of weekends - Hunting Largies - New PB for me :)

Awesome! Those Lunker bass are a sight to behold! Congrats! -
The more we are divided on this, the longer it will take to fix the problems. We bicker amongst ourselves, brainwashed by the gov't with the mantra of, "Either you're with us or against us,". Although it was a short clip, the CBC burst with the Harper supporter speaking like a sailor, shows how divided we really are. They guy couldn't even listen to reason…all he saw were "lefty/pinkos" and that they are all liars and cheats. All politicians have had their fair share of getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar, but we seem to turn a blind eye or say, "well, your guy stole more than my guy did" and in the end, NOTHING gets resolved. I'd be voting for the guy who wants to work with everyone and not divide the country between "us vs them".

Advice with shallow spool spinning reel
FrankTheRabbit replied to FrankTheRabbit's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the awesome advice! I managed to spool up around 87yds of 20lb PP. That should be enough for casting and hopefully with enough line in case some bigger fish decide to make some runs. When I casted for the pike, it was already pretty close to the spool, hence my worries about not having enough line. We actually boated towards the fish to save me some line. lol Either way, the reel is pretty darn amazing and look forward to many more outings with it. Looking forward to some piggies in the fall! Thanks again fellas! -
Advice with shallow spool spinning reel
FrankTheRabbit replied to FrankTheRabbit's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the advice. I just came across someone mentioning plumbers tape, which could work and doesn't take up much line capacity. And that wouldn't leave any sticky residue. Will see how that works out. I did manage to boat around a 30" pike with the shallow spool, surprisingly. -
I've recently acquired my first shallow spool spinning reel and it came with 12lb fluoro and had a chance to fish with the reel over the weekend. Obviously, it doesn't cast very far so I'd like to swap out the fluro with braid…like 15lb or maybe 20lb. The question is, does a shallow spool spinning reel require any backing? I've read some places that it doesn't require backing, but I'm thinking that the braid would start to slip. Thoughts? Thanks!

For sure! I couldn't watch it on tv, but I was glued to the SportsNet app.

W-L records only tell part of the story. Despite Dickey's record, he's certainly pitching better than Hutch...that dude is soooo lucky! Lol. Exciting times in Jays land for sure!

Wow! Amazing trip, amazing snaps! Good job!

Booyah Padcrashers work great too and when I started using them, they were only $5.50 per frog, compared to LiveTarget priced around $10. I started using Zoom Horny toads this year and those have been fun too. They're around $6-8 per pack (5 count). Lots of choices and at different price points. Experiment with them and I'm sure you'll have an awesome time.

Wow. Need to know who your insurer is. I was with COOP, switched to AllState with lower rates. My guilty plea to a lessor charge was at least 5 years ago and my insurance with AllState worked out to be $120/mth.
-
Ok, I'm guessing it's dependent on who your insurer is and perhaps whether there is a one infraction grace rule? I was charged with running a stop light, challenged it, prosecutor proposed for me to plead guilty to a lessor charge that had no demerit points, and my insurance went up. Been a G licensed driver for 16 years and no other previous convictions either. You plead guilty to any traffic violation, it's just ammunition for your auto insurer to justify a rate increase.
-
Any guilty plea to a lesser charge will result in an increase for your auto insurance. The prosecutors will only want a guilty plea-any kind of guilty plea because it helps them out in the end for their win loss record. Best thing to do is arm yourself with your own facts and dispute what the charges are. If you want to dispute the charges, first thing you'll need to do is have your own version of events with what happened. Day time, night time, cloudy, sunny, dry roads, wet roads, etc. Be as detailed as you possibly can...go back to what you've written and try to remember as to what happened, because you'll need have your own version of events to contest what the charges are. Next, request for a full disclosure. Whatever you've been charged with, everyone is entitled to full disclosure, which is the officer's version of events. This will be what you'll need to analyze to form your defense and dispute the charges. The strategy with this is, you want to request full disclosure no less than 60 days before your court time. You want to time it and hope they don't end up providing you your full disclosure, so when you arrive in court, you plead for a stay of charges based on not receiving full disclosure in a timely manner to form your defense. When they re -schedule your new court day, you can plead a violation of 11 A or B which infringes on your right to a fair and timely trial (which is I think 11mths). Another thing you can look up and request is to see if the officer has been trained and obtained a certification to operate that particular radar detector. And so whether or not the radar was calibrated prior to you getting pulled over. At the end of the day, if you really did speed, you prob should pay for in. The above strategy will take time. Good luck.

I think wild parsnips is aka Queen's Annes Lace, deadly indeed.

if you go the Android route, you may want to consider the type of Android OS to use. OnePlus, Motorola, and Nexus phones have a pure Android experience. Very clean interface and no manufacturer bloat ware. Majority of the other Android manufacturers (Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony, etc) installs their own version of Android, which includes many other features not found in pure Android. Over time, some of these extra features can take a hit on the phone's performance. Also, they receive the slowest updates. Android Lollipop has been released over a year ago and some Samsung phones have only started receiving updates recently. Some other manufacturers won't even bother supporting it because they're busy working on their next phones. Personally, if you go the Android route, I'd stick with a pure Android device, with the OnePlus being close to the pure Android experience. The last I've heard with the OnePlus phone, although great in price, is based on an invite system. You'll need someone that has a OnePlus phone to send you an invite to purchase it. And even then, because they're a small player in the phone industry, there might be inventory problems. As for the iPhone cases, I've been using a LifeProof case, which is slim and waterproof at the same time. It also allows you to use the thumb print reader with the case on, so your phone is completely sealed. Have fun with your phone shopping experience!

I've had a few phones in the past and from my experience: If you wanna tinker and tweak and spend time getting the most out of your mobile device, Android, hands down. If you want a phone that you use and download apps, Apple iOS is what I found to be better. I remember spending hours tinkering with an old Galaxy Nexus phone and it's fun and all when you have the time to do all that stuff. Lately, I'd rather spend time on other things (like fishing ), instead of tinkering/tweaking a phone, so Apple's iOS works for me. No point debating which eocsystem is better, it's an endless debatejust write out a list of things you'd want your next phone to do and base your decision on that.

Looking forward to the Stradic FK. Specs and photos sure look nice! 9:1 lowpro casting reel, how lowpro is it? I think the Zillion TWS comes in 9:1, but it's a pretty big honking reel.

It will be interesting to see how the Made In Malaysia reels will fare down the road. Despite selling my CuradoD, I'll definitely be keeping my CuradoE and Core for a very long time. My dad still has a pretty good condition CH SuperFree and Stradic FG, which have only been serviced once since he's owned them. Definitely built to last!
