  1. I've used Raven 8lb hi-vis line and found it to be alright. Others have mentioned that it's a terrible line. The hi-vis line is a benefit to you, but can also allow the fish to detect the offering as well. What you may need to do is attach a shot-line (by the means of a swivel or uni-knot of around 12"-14") and then attach a leader (about 18"-24"). I've recently switched to Stren (moss green colour) and that removed the need to use a shot line. The more things you have on your line, the more chances of a break off when fighting a fish. Like they say, "less is more" in this situation.
  2. Nice lookin fish! I miss fishing with my float gear.
  3. Funny enough, i was fishing with them by a low-hanging bridge. Countless times, I smacked the lure against the concrete bridge, with a "pooper' remark that followed. Those remarks were all for naught, because it still looked brand new. hah. I eventually lost it when it was caught amongst some rocks and I'll assume it still looks new underneath the waters. This was bought from Canadian Tire.
  4. I was able to speak to a local tackle shop owner and he said that there are no marinas for public boat rentals. Just in case someone else was wondering.
  5. I'm in Sudbury at the moment and would like to fish out of Ramsey Lake this Wednesday. Does anyone have a marina to recommend on renting a boat for few hours? Thanks!
  6. They look like the godfathers of the perch underworld. Don't think I've seen perch that large before. Nicely done!
  7. White spinner baits are always a winner. Colorado blades for more vibration in murky waters or willowleaf blades in heavy vegetation and more flash. Senkos, as mentioned above, work nicely too! Gulp worms/minnows also produce too. There's an endless amount of lures to use that bass will hit. They eat anything! A friend even had bread under a bobber and they still hit.
  8. That can be an endless debate, but if my money helps to put food on someone else's table, I can live with that. Not everyone can have the freedom to choose what job they want to pursue. I still look forward to going up there.
  9. Oooooo! Thanks Rod. I'll be sure to make a deliberate stop! Are those places along HWY 17 upscale places or mom & pop shops? Preferably would prefer the mom & pop shops.
  10. Im heading up there for the first time next week and in case i'm unsuccessful in catching fish, is there a local fish & chip shop around there? Preferably somewhere that serves the local catch of walleye, but I'll still be happy with some good fish & chips eats.
  11. I tip my hat to the person who called and reported these IQ challengeds.
  12. I've only had colour come off from the braid when I was spooling my reel. I'd hold the line between my fingers as I reel in and I noticed a mossy green colour afterwords. I was using the 30lb test on my spinning reel tossing a mepps spinner and a small tube jig. The line came off nicely off the reel.
  13. They're having a sale at CT for a spool of 832 150yds for 15 bucks. Dunno if nit's still on sale, but check it out.
  14. The boater's exam, compared to a driving license's exam, is a joke. I remember we were taking the test as a group and we were all sharing our answers. I wonder if there was anyone who's failed this test. I mean, even if you get the answer wrong, there's someone to help you to correct the answer. Lol. I'll be sure to bring my boater's card with me, just in case.
  15. Are there boat rentals available in Callander Bay? Shoreline fishing possible there? Will be up there during the week of the 13th for the day.
  16. Thanks Rod for answer. They must have a really good program up there for the fish as demonstrated by the lunker of a female.
  17. Nice photos indeed. Could someone clarify if I'm thinking clearly? Is the area that they're fishing in Zone 10 (Manitoulin Island) and if so, aren't the catch & retain limits two for sport and one for conservation licenses for rainbows? Not to knock the post, but just seeking clarification.
  18. Picked up the Nikon S8100 around Xmas time for $280 taxes in. Great auto modes, fits in my pocket, records in 1080p stereo, good quality photos, and quick all around. Very seldom do I need to toy around with the settings to get an acceptable shot. Perfect for fishing. I was very tempted in getting the SD1400s too, but the 1080p recording won me over.
