Good place to shore fish with an 8 year old?
FrankTheRabbit replied to Torinate's topic in General Discussion
I believe you misunderstood the intention with my response. Some people feel that pointing them to a stocked point is an insult to their fishing skills. I'm just trying to be respectful to the OP. I've fished Glenn Haffy this past year a few times and I totally agree with you that it's a great place. I absolutely enjoyed it. Being able to bring a fly rod, float rod, and spinning rod to play, without walking far, is awesome. And yes, the bathrooms are a huge bonus! Plus, some anglers end up keeping more than their limit, which is better than having them keep the fish that are actually in open water. I'm not condoning anglers to keep more than their 3 fish limit, but I'd rather see them take more than their limit in a stocked pond than the wild fish on our rivers. -
Good place to shore fish with an 8 year old?

No offense intended, but Glenn Haffy would be a place to start. Pay the park $14 and stay the day. Keep up to 3 rainbows and you can still catch and release. -
NF Is it me or is OFC slow to load ?
FrankTheRabbit replied to woodenboater's topic in General Discussion
Was using FF to browse this site and an error message popped up regarding the Flash plugin crashed. Safari had troubles viewing this site and had the continuous spinning beach ball. Had to force-quit the app. I've installed all the updates and repaired my permissions, did a reboot, and Safari still crashed. I'm leading to believe it's a Flash related bug/issue. FF seems to be less prone. -
Love the 'thinking outside of the box' mentality! I suppose a larger tackle box is in order to accommodate some fine glassware. I have a Rapala R-type spinning reel and a Quantum Smoke baitcaster (thx Uglyfish) and neither of them came with a pouch. I must admit that I dig the Canadian link between the Crown Royal and our favourite pastime.

I was wondering if any of you fine gentlemen could point me in the right direction on where I may find such an accessory? I've got a baitcast and a spinning reel that I would like to have a pouch for. I've seen the neoprene ones, but they often leave the handle exposed. My dad has draw string cloth pouch for his Chronarch and it protects the entire reel. I've checked BPS online and all they have are neoprene pouches for a fly reel. Any info is much appreciated. UPDATE: Found this on eBay, which is what I'm looking for, but are there any local retailers that may have something like this? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Daiwa-Original-Reel-pouch-3-/370633989943?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564b81df37

Fishing guide recommendations
FrankTheRabbit replied to FrankTheRabbit's topic in General Discussion
Hey fellas, Just wanted to give a quick thanks for all of your recommendations. I had a great outing with Taro, from FishCity Tours. His passion for fishing was THE best I've ever seen. This guy lives, breathes, swims, etc with the fish and is boundless with knowledge. I felt like a kid going back to kindergarten and soaking up everything that came outta his mouth. When my friend caught his PB "nickel" largie, Taro was the first to jump up in excitement with high 5s going around! As excited as I was to be fishing with Taro, he was even more excited to be taking us out! I had a chance to try out some great quality fishing gear of his and made me appreciate the experience even more. As with all guides, he was super professional, on time, always there to provide pointers, explaining how the fish behave, giving us highlight stories of past outings, and so forth and so forth. You really can't put a price tag on the experience and I would look forward to future outings with him without hesitation. The only drawback...there aren't enough hours in a day when fishing with Taro!!! I do have some pictures from that day, but I'm not sure if my bud would like it if I put his mug on the web. lol Next week, I have my another outing with Glenn, from Bigyen's Fishing Adventures. I will post a follow up shortly after. -
I've found the GULP! products not to be storage friendly. If any of that smelly liquid leaks into your bag, game over. You basically would need to place the bag in another zip-loc bag or to be really, safe, double bag the zip-loc. Some of my bags smell so bad that I've pitched it altogether. lol They work really well and fish seem to devour it without any hesitation.

Amazing how he's managed to look pretty much the same after all these years.

I gave Lebarons a ring and they provided me the contact number for Rapala. They don't seem to want the reel back with or without the receipt. lol I will give them a ring on Monday to see what can be arranged. I just wasn't sure if I should have returned the reel to Lebarons or deliver the reel to Rapala. ecmilley->A few people have mentioned the reels being cheaply made. I'm still on the fence about that. I also bought their R-Type spinning reel, which I've had no problems with at all and in fact really enjoy fishing that reel. The bait casting reel is of a different beast. On paper, the specs are great and along with the price, should be a winner. I definitely do enjoy using the R-Type casting rod though. I'll keep you guys updated when I get in touch with Rapala.

Thanks Hirk. I've had a Rapala float rod go in for warranty and it took about 6-7 months to get replaced. lol I'll give Lebarons a ring to see what they can do. From past experiences, they're quite adamant with receipts...fingers crossed.

Had to dig up this old post. Does anyone know how good Rapala's warranty is? I've developed two problems with the reel now: 1.) Sometimes when I am reeling with a fish on, the anti-reverse lock doesn't kick in and when the fish runs, I'm left with a bad birds nest (and lost fish!). 2.) I was casting my 3/8oz jig head and the bearing cover came off, despite having it locked. Something must've come undone...it happened too fast. One moment, the reel is in one piece, the second moment, the bearing cover is on the ground. I purchased the bait casting reel a year ago, but I've lost the receipt. Anyone know what the chances are in getting a warranty claim with no receipt? I haven't caught any fish over 2lbs with this setup (the reel is paired with their one-piece R-type rod), so I can't imagine the reel being over worked/fished. Thanks.

You're losing it Jedimaster. Maybe, you should be called a Padawan. hah

That one, I believe, is called Bass City. Right by the train tracks, but definitely way north of the 401.

There's one more store called Pro J at Warden & Sheppard (3467 Sheppard Ave. E).

Might be my own conspiracy theory, but I'm sure reduction in costs is just small potatoes to the overall bigger picture of things. It's well documented that regulations over our environment has changed over the years that leads to the exploitation of our own natural environment. The two things that stick out in my mind are: the Mega Quarry and the XL Pipeline projects. Reduce funding/regulations for the environment translates to easier approval process for these corporations. Again, it might just be me talking out of the looney bin, but nevertheless, there are questions to be asked with these changes. Regarding Gov't oversight on things, doesn't matter if you're left, right, or centre, they've all had a long history of mis-spent tax payer dollars. It's so unfortunate and personally, makes me very doubtful in the competency on part of our gov't.

Awesome recipes by all. Those walleye tornadoes look like an EPIC MEALTIME bonanza.

I just use my camera phones for quick pics. Regarding nets, I was recommended the Measure Net and they sell them at Bass Pro Shop. I purchased the the largest one that has an extendable handle. It's not too heavy either and I'm sure I will use it a lot. I came across this video to give you an idea: The net retails for around $44.

Misfish->I don't recall seeing any wool gloves/mittens since I bought it a few years ago. He may have something what you're looking for, but even if he doesn't, I'm sure another vendor will have something. Toad->Yup, that's the same fella! I love how well the sweater works as a mid-layer during the winter months. It took me a few years to pick out the pieces of straw still embedded in the wool. The only thing that has worn out is the zipper, which a local seamstress should be able to help me patch up. When I was at SAIL over Xmas, they were selling the hoodie sweater for $149. I think I paid $79 a few years ago. Mr. Alpaca sells those jackets that zip up to your side...I've always been curious with them and might pick one up on my next visit. Only wish they were a bit closer.

Thanks for the tip. Really enjoy going there. So many good produce, food, etc. Their spicy cheeses and salami are top notch. There's also a vendor who sells these really thick wool sweaters. It's the warmest sweater I've ever worn and a whole lot cheaper too. I look forward to this summer's trek to St Jacobs.

Petition Against Weakening The Fisheries Act.
FrankTheRabbit replied to Moosebunk's topic in General Discussion
Added my name as well, but used my spam email address to register. Still scary that you have to put in your full address to be able to sign that petition. I hope they don't collect the info and sell it to a 3rd party. I don't remember seeing any info regarding that. -
MNR Outsourcing jobs to the US
FrankTheRabbit replied to FrankTheRabbit's topic in General Discussion
Sorry fellas, didn't mean to spam the board. I must've been out fishing when the first thread was created. -
This has been brought up in another forum and I'm not sure if it's been discussed before, but I feel this deserves more attention. Essentially, since January, our hunting and fishing license information are being kept by a company in Tennessee, called Active Outdoors. Personally, it's such a bone headed move and how this got around in the first place is completely lost to me. There are countless issues at hand, but for the most part, our privacy may be at jeopardy due to the American's Patriotic Act and also the fact we're outsourcing jobs from Ontario to the US. Anyhow, you could read a bit about it here or Google it for other sources. http://www.thestar.c...g-deal-with-u-s

Sometimes they're just spooked that no matter what you toss in front of them, they just won't bite. If there's a bit of rain and stains up the waters to the point that you won't see them, they will hit quite willingly.

Ahh, perfect, the double/triple surgeon's knot is so simple compared to a uni knot. Cuzza->Those Thingamabobbers is what I use and I find that they ruin the leader. The "turn-on" indicators are exactly what I'm looking for. Just need to make a pitstop on the weekend. Thanks fellas!
