Looking for Daiwa Zillion parts
FrankTheRabbit replied to FrankTheRabbit's topic in General Discussion
Fisherpete: Thanks for that info. I'll give'em a ring tomorrow and see what they have. Steve: Thanks for the input…perhaps it's that time of year when bass gear is kinda slow. I'll definitely keep an eye out for anything over there. Shipping over from the US shouldn't be too bad, since they're small items. I've also sent Ah_long a message, since he services quite a lot of reels, to see if he has anything for sale. Much appreciated fellas! -
Howdy, I've recently acquired my first Daiwa reel (Zillion 100SHA) and I'm looking to replace the front and side plates. Mechanically, it's solid, but cosmetically, I'd give it a 7/10. There aren't too much scuffs and scratches, but noticieable enough to me in wanting to change that. I've gone through eBay, Kijiji, TackleTour and couldn't come up with a vendor that sells the required parts. If any of you could point me in the right direction, that'd be great! Thanks.

You always do an awesome job up there! The school kids definitely enjoy it! -
Cirque de Soleil shows are always a huge draw. The food down there has always been good that can fit into any sort of budget. I've also been fairly lucky with the customer service at the those restaurants as well. Long story short: Group of 6 guys, sat down the restaurant at 7:30pm, was busy, and I had a flight to catch at 11:00pm. Everyone ordered drinks, an app, and a main course. A few of us split a 72oz rib steak. Anyhow, order was made at 7:45pm and we requested if the food could come out a little quicker, since I had that flight to catch. No word of a lie, all of our food came to our table in 10-15 minutes! The steak was also pre-cut to fork sized bites. All you had to do, was stab and stuff in your mouth. lol This was in one of the restos at the Monte Carlo. I've also heard in some hotels, you could get a room upgrade if you put some 20s in a white envelope. But that would depend on availability and depends who you get at the check-in desk. Always had a fun time there and always left wishing a few more extra days. I think it's one of the very few places where you can blow off $1mil in one day…I think the Wynn hotel even has a Ferrari dealership within it. lol They have gun ranges, exotic sports car rentals, rent track time in a Nascar, dune buggies (so fun!), helicopter rides, and various "bunny" ranches. Pool/drink/music parties non-stop, nuts. Anyhow, I'm sure whatever you decide, it will be a very fun time.

I've been looking around for a set of new winters. We had the Blizzaks WS70s on our previous vehicle that lasted three winters. Always felt confident with them driving along the 401, Georgian Bay area, and in Quebec. I narrowed it down to the new Blizzaks, the WS80s, Toyo Observes GSi5s, and the Michelin Xi3s. From what I was able to gather, the Xi3s were always a top performer, until the WS80s were released this year. Preliminary testing has the WS80s nudging ahead of the Xi3s. Unfortunately, the WS80s were sold out and opted for the Xi3s. There won't be one set of winter tires that will perform the best in every winter situation (icy roads, heavy slush, deep snow, etc), so you'll need to see what type of driving you will be doing and go from there. Also, little nuances, like road noise, dry/wet pavement handling, or fuel consumption, might be a factor in determining which set of winters will suit your preference.

Where are all the "Stop the Drop" whiners now?
FrankTheRabbit replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
Dunno if a solid conclusion can be made by just one season of returning water levels. It's such a huge water system to claim it as a cyclical event and naive to do so. I'm not sure if they've managed to implement a system to slow the outflow of water or perhaps the heavy precipitation from this past winter, but I do hope they are able to find a way to maintain the current water levels of GB and Huron. -
I was visiting some friends up at Deep River and was excited when I found out they lived right along the Ottawa River. Unfortunately, I didn't have any luck, besides losing a few lures. I saw a few people fishing as well, but didn't see them bring anything to their boat. It was really weird…rocky shoals, tea stained waters, and lots of drop offs (according to Navionics), but I didn't come across any fish at all. Not even any sunfish, perch, minnows, rock bass, anything, except two carp. Hope you'll have better luck than I did for those two days. This was back in July and the mosquitoes were out in full force too.

In the video, he did say he wasn't "really" that sort of person, but not far from the truth. Three dollar bill, swampland for sale, horsefeathers, etc, they all accurately apply to his "apology".

Salmon/Trout in streams rivers yet?
FrankTheRabbit replied to Craigson's topic in General Discussion
For the new anglers, I think it goes without saying that river fishing is a very hush-hush thing. The reason being, there are tonnes of idiots who don't respect the rivers or fish. They take it for granted, thinking it's a never ending resource. We've all witnessed the countless river banks that get filled with garbage and the amount of gut and chuck that goes on. It's just ugly. So Craigson and to other new aspiring river anglers, it's not meant to be offensive when most are not willing to give updates regarding fishing for trout or salmon. But do know some etiquette on the rivers: 1.) Never crowd a fellow angler or step into their spot if they need to walk away for fighting a fish or re-tying 2.) Don't snag for fish…learn to fish properly. The rule is, if you accidentally snag a fish (meaning the hook is NOT in its mouth), you must break off right away 3.) Know what fishing redds are…one of the worst things to do is stomp all over the redds with your waders 4.) Don't walk across where anglers are drifting 5.) Don't gut & chuck your fish…it's wrong, unethical, illegal, take your pick... 6.) Don't sell your left testicle to be cool and post your prized catch with a full background…if you need to know what we mean, the NPS (National Penis Suckers) website has plenty examples of idiots who sell out the sport to make them think they're cool Anyhow, others are free to chime in…As new anglers come about, they need to learn the ABCs of river fishing and then we could hopefully improve the sport and anglers alike... -
Thanks for confirming on the Loomis rods. Although reassuring for now, it remains to be seen if they apply the same Shimano warranty with Loomis rods. Hopefully I'm wrong on that.
-
Depending on the type of rod, 1-year may not be sufficient. Shimano has a lot of species/technique specific rods. Eg., being bass. Bass season being open from 3rd week of June till end of November, which is five months. Realistically, a lot of casual bass anglers stop fishing after October, so you only have 4 months to fish that rod. And you may only have two or three weekends per month to fish, so really, you'd be taking the the rod out about 12 times during a season. That really isn't a lot of time to know whether or not your purchase is a lemon. And what about more hardcore anglers who have an array of rods. So that rod you purchased might even see even less water time. I'd say, bump it to two years. That's more reasonable than having a one year warranty. Gonna re-ask…but anyone know if Loomis rods are affected by the same warranty coverage?
-
Does this apply to Loomis products as well?

Car CVT Trannies -are they any good?
FrankTheRabbit replied to captpierre's topic in General Discussion
Picked up a 2015 Forester with the CVT option in mid-May. We've put in over 12,000 Kms. Did our first oil change at 10,000kms. No probs whatsoever. Fuel mileage is pretty good. I can regularly reach 600km easily before I fill up that's a combined hwy/city driving. It's a 60L tank. The CVT is more about fuel economy than road performance and results in a paltry towing capacity of 1500lbs. They do have manual tranny as standard. Take one out for a spin, it'll only take a few minutes for you to decide if you like it or hate it. -
Sometimes hard to find, but I'm a lover of the Daiwa SpinnerBaits. For some added action, I would attach a Mr Twister grub. Durability wise, paint does wear out and the O ring attached to one of the blades does get loose, but I generally take a pair of pliers and pinch them back in place. They've caught all sorts of fish and been very happy with the success rates on them.

Regarding the Sufix Premium spool of mono, I'd check their copyright date. I was there last week and the top of the spool had a copyright date of 2009 in very tiny print. Dunno if 5 year old mono is reliable enough, which is probably why it's reduced to $2.49. I saw the same deal too, but switched to a different brand when I saw the copyright date.

Oh…yea, one bottle is to clean the fabric and the other bottle is for the DWR treatment to make the garment bead water. I thought you meant another brand of wash, which I made a mistake…Granger's and not Grange. Granger's also recommended for GoreTex fabrics.
-
Grange?

You can check out mountain hiking clothing lines. They offer great weather proof products that are also breathable. You would likely look for items that are shell specific. They have no insulation as it offers you a first line of protection against the elements. Columbia, North Face, Arcteryx, GoLite, Marmot, Mont-Bell, etc. Since they are more geared for hiking, they should all pack very easily and you can always wear it when you're not fishing. I've found that the fishing specific bibs/jackets have too much insulation and if it's raining in the summer, tends to be too warm for my liking.

Went on a deep sea fishing charter in Miami last year and the guide swears by his Abu Garcia polarized glasses. Granted, they were $350 a pair so I can see why he would! I tried them on and couldn't tell much of a difference with my $25 pair of H2Optics. But I think it was more of my lack of knowledge in knowing the differences between my pair and his. Just like how some people might not appreciate the difference between a Stradic and a Stella.

Love the glass calm water pics. Wish that was in the backyard every single day! Nice fish btw!
