  1. Just found this info online - "In a partially discharged state, the electrolyte in a lead acid battery may freeze. At a 40% state of charge, electrolyte will freeze if the temperature reaches approximately 16.0°F. The freezing temperature of the electrolyte in a fully charged battery is -92.0°F." So, it sounds like if the batteries are kept fully charged there is no problem. I don't have an on-board charger so mine come inside.
  2. I store them inside where they won't freeze. 2 deep cycle and 1 starter. The boat sits outside and the temp can get down to -30 C. I put a charge on them every 2 months.
  3. Is that a public launch on Sturgeon? Where is it?
  4. Nice rig! That Yamaha will last a long time. I'm not done with mine yet, I'm heading out on Simcoe for Smallies today.
  5. What kind of boat? Usually the bilge will pump out of the side of the boat at the rear, above the water line. If you have a hole in that area on the side of the boat, you could feed a wire or coat hanger into the hole and see where it comes out in your bilge. That's where you would hook up the hose. Hope this helps.
  6. I've never heard of or caught a musky with "swim bladder issues" - strange. I liked the video, good release techniques.
  7. Normal. It's warm, not hot. My 75 does the same thing when I run for a while at cruising speed, when I stop the exhaust is warmer than the air, - condensation. Nothing to worry about. If you really want to baby your motor, let it idle for a minute after a run so it can cool down before you shut it off. 8 years now with my Yamaha 75 4 stroke and no issues.
  8. I got one of these - - about 20 years ago. It's a fantastic little tool, and I can re-use my shot at least 3 or 4 times. Warning - happy music during the video.
  9. Ha Ha, I call it the 'in-fisherman' hold. Reach toward the camera and make the fish look huge. Nice fish!
  10. Check out these from Frogg Toggs - http://www.froggtoggs.com/?wading/wading_jackets I have one and they will keep you just as dry as any of the high end ones, plus they weigh almost nothing. I think I got mine from Amazon - at the time it was the cheapest source. Avoid jackets that have a waterproof 'coating' that wears off after a season.
  11. At first I thought the topic was about a newfie's mother. Good luck in the race!
  12. Congrats on your rigger fishing success! I hope you have better luck with your Cannon, the first thing to break down on those is the auto stop.
  13. To get out of the deal you made to get your boat, a couple of runs at 70mph towing the tube should do the trick.
  14. Cdn Tire now sells Perko T-handle locks. Looks like they would match yours.
  15. I agree, when I release musky in warm water I try to point their head a little deeper in the water to get down to the cooler temps. They tend to wake right up and take off.
  16. I'm guessing but I think it was the charter boat for Great Lakes Taxidermy in Collingwood. When Randy Ford was there and involved with Walker riggers. Nice boat, good luck with the restoration!
  17. To anyone that fishes musky with large baits, please do not side cast in the boat! A few times over the years, I have seen someone get a backlash after a vigorous side cast, 30 feet of line goes out - stops suddenly and then comes around and hits or starts wrapping around the other angler in the boat, leaving him with a big bait full of trebles stuck somewhere in his body. I will not let anyone side cast in my boat, they learn to cast overhand.
  18. You are one very brave guy! You wouldn't catch me risking my lower unit on a chunk of submerged ice. Be careful!
  19. Lure storage in the live-well didn't work for me either. The drain plug keeps water out but the overflow holes for the live-well on the side of the boat (Lund) were letting water in. Not much, but enough to rust the baits.
  20. This will be next. A license for each zone. You want to fish 3 Zones? Buy 3 licenses. Government cash grab!
