  1. 85 feet is a lot of reeling for perch! Per-ch-ance, did you spot your lost lure with the fish cam?
  2. you are right Terry...these are quite small, any smaller and it wouldn't be worth getting any meat. How big are they on Simcoe?
  3. My bro, Jim Jigger and I drove out to a remote lake in the back 9. Around 3pm we were on the ice hoping for some prime-time walleye. This particular lake has only had decent walleye fishing over the past 4-5 years, prior to that it was a laker and splake hotspot. Apparently some local(s) introduced the walleye and they managed to survive to a healthy population...not necessarily the best idea in my opinion, but my opinion won't make a difference either way, we caught no walleye. The ling started biting at 5:30 and continued until we left at 1pm. We were getting approximately 1 every 30 minutes using minnows on bottom. They bite very lightly and don't even set off the bells on my ice rod. To clean them: kill them right away. Lay them flat on the ice until they are stiff and not slimy. Cut right across each flank like making a filet. Remove the rib cage out of the filet, cut out the belly fat and skin them. Voila. People tell me they taste like lobster or oysters...I'll be the judge of that later this week. Took home 6 of them myself. Best thing about ling is the low pressure fishery, they're relative abundance and the low level of effort it takes to catch em. This has been one of my goals this winter, to catch and eat Ling, so it was a productive night.
  4. I've heard that cheeze works.
  5. real nice shots...the fish were sleeping but my eyes were open wide.
  6. Man it's like the sky the melting ...I can taste the colors. Nice kitty, it'll taste great.
  7. that second pic is Epic! Nice Laker and what ever else those other trout are.
  8. Pretty pictures and shiny lures! That is good entertainment. haha.
  9. Or a $20 bill tied to the end of your ice rod...
  10. I just bought the Graphite GS Series ice rod from BPS. $22. It's longer than your typical ice rod with a better backbone. The best thing about it is it doesn't have the rubber stoppers to hold the reel in place...those drive me nuts, this one has the screw type clamping system. To complete the combo I bought an Abu Garcia Cardinal 101i reel. Big enough to use in the summer, small enough to use with the ice rod and the quality is high enough to avoid stiff reeling in cold temps. $35 at BPS
  11. There are motels in North Bay for 49.99/night....Bay motel or the voyageur. correct, callander bay is the south east end. So far it looks like I'm still good to join
  12. Or it would end up on the Lemon list along with the Toureg. exactly why I have a Mazda B4000....by far not the best engineered truck out there, but it's cheap and does it's job well.
  13. Toronto needs six skaters to even have a chance against PHX. Go PHX Go! Thanks for the two points, Leafs!
  14. Yes I am joking ...hmmm I don't know why I thought that.... it's obvious with a little thought. Win some lose some.
  15. I'd say trap him or scare him out of the area. I'm sure a few brush fires (controlled fire) near his den would send him on his way. ..or odors, or noises. Try a battery powered radio set on the CBC....worked for raccoons at my old work. When they walk, you can really tell they are part of the bear family..neat little animals, but a nuissance sometimes.
  16. I guess "drinking like a bird" no longer means small amounts of consumption.
  17. I'd write up a good reply, but my Toyota Corolla is doing 120 and speeding up on it's own...I hope this highway doesn't end.
  18. Nice work horse... Those things are also like couches now days. I would have picked the same truck but the Mazda B4000 is all I need for now and Mazda was giving them away. 6000 off the top or 0%.
  19. Tough it out...then get back on the water. Get well.
